#IUBASE - 2017 B1G Tournament
Aaron replied to ccgeneral's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Sounds for sure like I said that we are not meant to be in this tourney. From twitter sounds like Miller barely missed a double on foul ball and then Dedelow flew out to wall (which is partially on him as I have said since he swings for fences every at bat now and never tries to just make solid contact anymore as he as done in past years which as resulted in the 16 HR's but a much lower batting average than years past). -

I'm starting to think this tourney is not meant to be for us between a robbed Home Run now and yesterday's sac fly controversy. Clearly the baseball gods do not want us to do well. Good thing we should be in NCAA tourney anyways. Already down 1-0. -
I remember she had a profanity laced tirade that made the headlines in 2013 and she was warned by Glass. I wonder if something similar happened that forced her 'resignation' or if this was strictly performance related. I'd believe either.

We should definitely strive to be our best no doubt. However, Butler has never made it back to championship game or Final Four either despite being twice in their little run and has been just a constant tourney team since Stevens left. Guess they should fire Holtman also since they have not gotten past sweet 16 but made tourney every year since their out of no where run. Look I have been more critical than anyone of Lemonis (see all previous posts if you do not believe me) but regardless of end results as long as we are we getting in tourney on an almost regular bases that's all we can reasonably ask. If we have a season where we implode then we should re-evaluate but right now might be the best we can strive for. Any chance we were going to miss the tourney just went out the window (no Zach Osterman today's loss did not really hurt our tourney chances despite what you wrote) facing Michigan tomorrow. First off we get last at bat and our own dugout back. Also a loss to them will not hurt us in least for our resume or getting in (RPI 30 and would remain 30 with loss and as I said exact same scenario 2 years ago with 6th in conference and 35 RPI we got comfortably in so no worries). No matter what happens now we locked in our spot with NW beating Michigan. Strangely Michigan lost on a bullpen implosion in 9th inning from guys who had not given up a single run all year till today and one was the closer who was obviously perfect in save opportunities. These tourneys have strange things happen to all and not just IU. -

I would love this but probably not realistic. As critical as I've been, as long as we are competing in Big Ten and making NCAA Tourney (which we almost certainly will this year) I think we have to say Lemonis is meeting expectation and the program is in a much better place still then it ever has been. As much as I loved 2013 and 14 probably not realistic to expect that. Very much like Butler is in basketball they have never made it back to title game or repeating the years they had with Stevens, but they are competing in Big East and making tourney which is all they can expect and its same with us for Baseball. If performance falls further or we have entire years like we did earlier this season than we start bringing pitchforks but what we are doing now is probably most reasonable expectation yearly. -

For last at bat tomorrow if Michigan loses we get it. If NW loses we toss a coin. Probably better we play Michigan as losing to NW might be our one way we miss NCAA in addition to losing today (we may still be in losing to NW but would be sweating a bit). RPI will consider this a 'neutral loss' so we probably fall to 30 or so after today. Our RPI was 35 2 years ago with very similar resume for when we got in just for reference. Now that we have put 1st game behind us we probably win at least 1 and maybe 2 and are ok short of NW loss as I said. -

We have an issue in 1st games of series (or in this case tourney's) and its rearing its ugly head today. I would think we would win tomorrow and maybe Friday given our history this year but 1st games are always a problem for us and something we need to work on big time in offseason is coming out stronger. -

I'm working today and not watching (twitter and live stats) but again 2 issues that appear very costly and looming large. Stiever left in to long again by Lemonis (should of been pulled at end of 5 and said it at time) and also Miller leaving to early on a sac fly shows such poor discipline and could be difference. -

Completely agree. An example of a player who never should of been recruited in first place and Crean reached as he did here way to much. There is a huge differences between a borderline top 200 3 star (ala OG, Juwan, Oladipo Etc) and a low 2 star like Gelon and April or Priller. This was one of Crean's biggest problems is he thought he could unlock talent in everyone regardless of ability and didn't get the difference between an OG and a Gelon. There is a mountain of difference in unlocking talent between a 3 star and a 2 star and I'm not sure Crean understood that till the moment he was canned. Don't blame Gelon at all and wish him the best. -

Way for Herrin to make it way to scary. Gets 2 easy outs before 2 straight singles and a walk load the bases. Than a fairly deep fly ball to left finally ends it for the win but on the solid contact it was like "oh s--t" until it was caught. Anyways assuming Iowa holds onto their big lead we cannot move from the 6 seed no matter what happens tomorrow. I will assure everyone though despite what I read on another message board and a friend of mine seems to think the selection committee does not care where we place in conference in terms of our seed and getting into the NCAA tourney. They look at SOS and RPI mostly and those are both excellent. We are in almost certainly now. I am out tomorrow during the game so will not be posting again (except maybe a wrap up post but no guarantees) till Big Ten tourney. I hate then 10am start Wednesday during work but after that its up to us to win to get good times rest of tourney because a win lets us play Thursday at 5pm than not again till Sat at 130pm. I'll go Saturday (on my birthday) if we get that far. Working Wednesday-Friday and cannot get time off. -

Wow huge break and a terrible call in our favor! They either called interference on the OSU runner trying to run to 1st or they called the runner out on the tag despite Tim Herrin not having the ball in his glove. We are through 7 and IU still leads 8-4. No one including the announcers are quite sure how an out was called but it was. Definitely should of been error on Herrin anyway you slice it as he missed ball and it rolled into foul territory and in my judgement runner had no role in the mistake. -

A continued great recovery by Milto as only an error by Houston at 2nd prevents another 1-2-3 and we are through 6. -

What a great piece of 2 out hitting by Gorski to half swing an 0-2 pitch into right field past 1st base for an RBI Single off a nasty pitch! 8-4 after 3.5 -

Ah I pay the $100 each year for all sport BTN2go for IU (that and my basketball season tickets are my main IU related expenses each year) so that is how my description is a bit more detailed since I am actually watching most of time. -

Clearly neither pitcher bothered to show as OSU scores 3 more to make it 7-4 after 3. By the way any stat you look at we are clearly second most followed baseball program in Big Ten behind Nebraska by a lot since Bart Kaufman opened. IU and Nebraska only Big Ten teams to rank in top 50 in attendance last 5 years and also IU 2nd to Nebraska in twitter followers with 29,000 6k ahead of Michigan who is third with 23,000. OSU stadium is empty tonight. -

Do you BTN2go ccgeneral that you are watching like me or do you just have the free radio and live stats? -

Let's recap the big inning: Butler started with a single to left, than Lloyd singled to right, Sowers singled to left field gap to tie game with Lloyd going to 3rd, Dedelow hit a high chopper to 1st for a ground out that scored Lloyd, Miller hit an RBI double down the right field line scoring Sowers, Krupa beat out an infield single when pitcher forgot to cover 1st, Gorski hit an RBI triple to left field gap to score 2 and was tagged out at 3rd but ump called him safe, Matheny walked, Houston scored Gorski on a suicide squeeze, Butler doubled down the left field line into the corner scoring Matheny before the inning finally ended on a Lloyd flyout. In all 7 runs on 7 hits and 11 man to plate. Great job! -

Finally remembered this pitcher is worthless as we have gone to work with 3 runs on 4 hits and still batting in 3rd with runner on 2nd and one out! -

We are so asleep at the wheel its not even funny. Some of the worst played defense I have ever seen in 1st inning by IU gives OSU a free run. First Gorski misplayed an easy grounder that went in outfield under his glove. OSU tried to do us a favor by their runner at 2nd stopping at 3rd for no apparent reason but we didn't take the generosity and instead dropped the throw at 2nd on an attempted steal later in the inning that led to a run. We are facing another terrible pitcher but that does not always mean anything and again our offense is struggling. Unfortunate we didn't get two runs in 1st because off a great diving catch robbing Luke Miller of a double. Long way to go but we better wake up on both sides of game because right now we look out of it. -

Priller is not an impact player in my definition of IU basketball no matter what but we can definitely agree to disagree there which is fine -

Only 2 spots in RPI from 29 to 31 so loss not a huge deal and still in good position from NCAA tourney perspective. Only problem is Iowa won so we are locked into the 6 seed basically as there are 2 games spaced between us on either side so we would need to win out and someone lose out (Iowa or Michigan) to move up or lose out and have NW or PU win out to fall to 7th or 8th. Obviously our Big Ten tourney seed has zero impact on our NCAA tourney prospects but it does mean bearing weather we play at 10am Wednesday when a lot less fans can come. After that it is up to us as a win lets us play at 5pm next day which isn't bad and than a bye till 1:30pm Saturday if we win again. Lose and we continue in morning . The only unfortunate (but minimal impact in the grander scheme of things) impact tonight after it all is said and done is basically knowing we are 6 seed for Big Ten Tourney. -

Not saying I believe faceless message board posters but the post clearly said 'non impact' and McSwain does not met that criteria. Non impact would be Priller, Gelon or one of the walk on's I assume. McSwain clearly makes an impact. -

What is going on tonight? Nebraska falls to PSU. Michigan falls to MSU. Minny trails PU in 7th. Also non conference but still Maryland fell to High Point who is 133 in RPI. Clearly we are not only team having trouble and this is bad for conferences ncaa tourney hopes as a whole. However, we lost only 8 spots in RPI with home loss to a much lower ranked PSU team at home last week so I am assuming a loss to a higher ranked OSU team on road will probably cost no more than the 4 spots gained beating Louisville. In 2015 our RPI was 35 when we got at large bid so as long as we win last 2 in series and get a game in Big Ten Tourney I think we are OK.
