  1. Fast freshman create a goal again. Gutman beat everyone down left side (yes I know he's not a frosh) and found Ware streaking who gave it back to Gutman for the goal. Thats the type of scoring opportunity u can produce with the much faster Warr, Toye and Dorsey running out front but had zero chance of creating with Hyacenth running at striker last year.
  2. On a serious note small updates to the stadium this year: 1. Benches finally covered 2. New signage to field 3. Goal netting now in alternate lines of cream and crimson to reflect iu colors. Very small stuff but first updates of any kind I believe since new entry plaza some yrs ago.
  3. Apparently Rennicks is spreading injuries to fans. So far I've seen a fan in a walking boot (no crutches), another fan with a heavily wrapped leg and crutches and also a fan with a heavily bandaged thumb in a splint. LOL
  4. Update on Rennicks: In a walking boot with crutches and walking pretty gingerly. Out on field during warmups intetacting with teammates but obviously not participating. Don't think we see him anytime soon.
  5. Just like the Louisville game Griffin Dorsey and the other freshman have fixed IU's woes offensively. Dorsey while he didn't score single handedly created our 2 first half goals. First he broke away on right side and drew a pk in 1st minute than he broke away down the same side and crossed it in for a Mason Toye goal later in the half. 3rd goal came in 2nd half off a San Francisco foul and Timmy Mehl on an in-direct free kick straight into the net. Than Hyacinth who is so much better as a back up for a few minutes drew another pk on a break away down the left side. Last goal he created on his own with a 30 yard rocket. We take a lot less shots now but only good ones (17 shots and 5 goals I believe) and the freshman have fixed our offensive issues. Dorsey is a treat to watch with his speed and skills. Basically a much faster Tanner Thompson. We need to enjoy him because like Tommy Thompson he may be in pro's after 1 year. Toye and Warr the other freshman also look like solid comfortable strikers up top. There is a reason this freshman class ranked in the top 5 and they look every bit of it (remember this does not include 5 star Justin Rennicks who is injured for a while and have not seen).
  6. Apparently Don Fischer announced on JMV Friday that Smith (who has done the pre game and halftime show for years) had a major accident this summer and fell down the stairs in his apartment and was nearly paralyzed but is on his way to recovery. However, he won't be ready for the football season and will be off the air for several more months while he recovers. That will be quite different. I have heard his voice on the broadcasts since I was a little kid. Hope his recovery continues to go well.
  7. That's our third OT win in just under year after going at least 5 years without one. Again the new freshman and especially Dorsey appear to be the offensive creators and goal scorers we have been waiting for since Zavaleta went pro. Very excited for this year.
  8. IU has finally found its next Eriq Zavaleta maybe? A new Frosh named Griffin Dorsey has broken away from d one on one for 2 goals and looked very dangerous in back. Overall offense finally looks fast and maximizing every effort at back end. One guy commented in crowd near me 'long time coming' after Dorsey scored his second goal which about sums it up. Goalie is a big question mark with Webb and Lomeli gone and new guy Caulfield fell asleep on corner for a Louisville goal. IU leads louisville 2-1 at half in exhibition match here in Indy.

    IU UL Soccer Update

IU wins 3-2. Second Half IU fell asleep on another corner but a few minutes later Timmy Mehl scored off a set piece on a straight kick into goal off a restart just outside the box. Overall our offense appears completely fixed and Dorsey very possible the answers to our prayers up front. We maximized every offensive opportunity and our D and Midfield dominated possession. The only question mark I have is the goalie. They played a different guy in the second half and neither one wowed me. Granted the d shut most things down so neither had a lot of opportunity but both times off corners neither one paid attention. Both appeared partially on the D as the same guy was unmarked off the corner both times and slotted in a header on each one. Certainly our communication on corner kick D needs some work but we certainly didn't have a goalie who could bail us out either time. Overall besides the two corners we looked spectacular at all times against a great team and I am very excited for the upcoming season to see what we can do.

    Aaron Slegers - LA Angels

No Slegers in Indy this week:(. He's pitching tomorrow on Sunday which means he is the one guy in their rotation that will not get used during 4 game series in Indy Mon-Thur. I don't blame Rochester at all for how they arranged their rotation but it's very unfortunate when a guy's team comes to his nearby hometown or alma mater and he is not scheduled to pitch in the series.

    Aaron Slegers - LA Angels

BTW Rochester visits the Indianapolis Indians a week from Monday (July 24-27) for a 4 game series so 4 in 5 chance we get to see him in Indy soon.
  12. Sowers and Lloyd not drafted so all of the sudden next year looks much brighter for us with them coming back. However, the negative with that as I keep saying is player development is lacking. How Sowers was drafted out of high school and has not progressed since coming here is a mystery. Throw in Krupa who I believe was drafted out of High School and now was not and it could get harder to sell players on coming here. Also Fineman has all the tools and is not developing at all. With that said short term we are in great shape after the draft and recruiting continues to be top notch. However, some of these top players are going to have to develop eventually to keep landing them. Program is not sunshine and roses but its not gloom and doom either. Kind of in a holding pattern and could go either way in next few years with some good and some bad happening currently.
  13. I could not be happier for Dedelow but not sure it sets a great precedent. He basically is a natural contact hitter who tried to hard swinging for fences each time this year and as result his average dipped about 75 points and his home runs went from about 5 to 20 (and this change in approach was clearly intentional). Basically tells kids as long as you swing for fences every time and hit lots of home runs we don't care if rest of your game suffers. Don't like that message but good for him and glad it worked out.

    Thad Matta OUT @ OSU

IU fan first as an alum but Butler a distant second for good reasons I will not share. Anyways this makes me sad not only because it hurts Butler but it could hurt IU depending on how Holtman does. At some point if Butler wants to be the program they think they can be they have to learn to hold onto their coaches especially now being in the Big East. Losing a coach to OSU tells me they still have a bit of a way to go to be the top tier program they are trying to be. Eventually they will get one of these hires wrong (as they nearly did with Brandon Miller) and it will not be good for them. Also what does it say when two very similar programs and conference rivals (Creighton and Xavier) had their coach turn down the job? Says Butler is a much longer way from the top than their fans and school thought.
  15. This list tells me Luke Miller plans to be back even if drafted and same with Milto (who is also 21 already and eligible). Since no juniors are on it besides Kade Kryzsko hard to get a read on Sowers. Not sure on Lloyd either who is 3 yrs removed form High School after spending time at JUCO. Also Jake Matheny only freshman or sophomore not on it.

    B1G/ACC Challenge

No problem. Just making sure you understand how ticket distribution works at IU. Stub hub will generally have tickets up when season tickets get mailed in early fall and people start to post them there.

    B1G/ACC Challenge

Is this a joke? All games sellout via season tickets except winter break games (whether students choose to go or not the seats are sold and not available for purchase). Unless IU drastically changes the way they sell tickets this year (and I guess never say never but don't hold your breath) no tickets for Duke or any other game with students in session will have tickets released for sale to the general public. I would check stub hub or some third party site but be prepared to pay very high price for this game or any other marquee game (you can fine some lower profile games fairly cheap on stubhub).
  18. I think there is a lot misplaced anger from basketball where we have every right to be upset. Because basketball is struggling I think people have looked to take it out on other sports at IU during the slightest bit of trouble that team experiences. Think of our fans as 'married' to IU basketball but merely 'friends' with the other IU teams. If you are having trouble in your 'married life' (IU basketball) you are more susceptible to snap at your 'Friends' (IU baseball and other sports) for little things you otherwise would not. I think that is pretty much whats going on with baseball, soccer, football etc.
  19. I'm out for the day. I'll leave with the thought I have been preaching all weekend. This team definitely has issues and things are not all rosy moving forward in future years but overall this season was a success and if we can maintain at this level (compete in Big Ten and make tourney) we have to be satisfied but don't fall further.
  20. That's what happens when you go from MAC to SEC pitching sometimes given the difference in the quality of the arms.
  21. All of Uk's first 3 starters are pretty equal numbers wise so while they may have saved Thompson for us its not like it was a huge gamble.
  22. Well considering we actually made tourney in baseball it can't be as soft since basketball team didn't even do that. Glad Lemonis had a quick hook on Krueger today when its clear he was struggling.
  23. Butler HR down the left field line!!!
