Scoreless streak over and we deserved it playing an awful half. Nearly gave up a goal twice. Fell asleep on a cross that should of been headed in. Than Muse saved us with 2 incredible saves off a free kick. Than fell asleep on a throw in from midfield where they finally scored. Have not played a good half at all. Little attack thats been good and D fell asleep a couple times. Team may need to learn tonight that nothing is a given as they have really not looked like no. 1 team in 2nd half for first time since Michigan.

Halftime. UW switched to a park the bus strategy later in half sending 8-9 men back to play D and absorbing our pressure while trying to counter. It didn't work and while no more goals we got all the chances later in the half and lead 12-2 in shots.
-
Just as their number's indicate UW has a really good attack and a really bad defense. Tons of chances for both sides but no goals. This UW team senior laden so this is really their last chance for a while to do something as they sit on tourney bubble. Either way don't think they get far given their issues on D. Basically they are the IU BBall team of 2014-2015.

Dorsey runs out early on a ball over the top. First shot right near top of box corraled by uw goalie who comes out but he can't hold on and Dorsey puts it in after he loses the save.

To much going on today. Hoosier Hysteria, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Football and Volleyball (obviously not all at once). Good thing btn2go has an option to quarter size your screen and play 4 games at once.

We can certainly differ and you are more than entitled to your opinion and I respect it but I disagree with you and stand by mine. I will say I have been as critical than you if not more so in past years so the fact that I am now so positive this year tells you what a change I have seen in this team compared to last few. However, as I said I certainly respect your opinion even though I disagree. Most importantly just as I suspected our RPI stays parked right at 7 before the night and remained right there after tonight's result. Need to win our last 2 to work into top 5 and be in line for home field all the way to college cup (top 4 are guaranteed that).

Some things you could not be more wrong on and some things more right. You are absolutely right that it is ridiculous that Butler plays on their turf football field. Part of it is they are still in process of being upgraded to Big East from Horizon so its only recently they have money and are upgrading things slowly. They may yet build a nice soccer stadium at some point but right now it is what it is. You are also absolutely right that IU was fairly lucky to get out with a tie. With that said (and this is where you are not quite right) this was an unusual situation where a combination of the speedy turf and their speedy forwards allowed Butler to play D with 8 men and forced IU to play a lot more back on D than normal to shut that long ball down. As a result Toye, Dorsey Warr etc had no chance given they were running into 4-5 defenders every time they got the near the box. Not even the best forward in the world could win against that many people. Normally we have quite a good attack (which is where you are way off) and Dorsey and Toye can absolutely create goals on their own which is why we are averaging well over 2 goals a game for the first time in several years. In any other venue against any other team where we can bring normal numbers forward we score just fine and have all year. After this game I really am not sure we will be scored on again this year (I hope I don't eat my words) unless its very late against an elite team late in the tournament away from home. Given the conditions mentioned above if we don't allow a goal tonight in these circumstances I am not sure we ever will. This is the one game where a tie hurts hurts very little against a top 20 team on the road in both RPI and perception. We need to win the rest of our games to win Big Ten and hopefully we will but a tie tonight is no big deal and most importantly shutout streak in tact.

5th straight time these teams head to ot. 1-1-2 record in previous 4 for both teams. Really neither team with chances. Reminds me of maryland game. We have kept extra numbers back to stop their counter attack and balls over top but because of it, butler d is de-possesing iu before any good chances. Not sure ive seen an iu game with this few chances on both teams.
-
Perfect guess on attendance 6,105. Probably 2,000 iu. As i said iu brings out bu fans like no other team.
-
Very interesting 1st half. Paul Snape has by far the best strategy against iu so far because he can. Playing d with 8 men and the 3 forwards so fast that iu has to put extra men back to shut that down and its worked. However, its making it so Dorsey, Toye and Warr are outnumbered on iu counters leading to the scoreless tie. Their goal keeper Eric Dick is also really good. This is certainly the best butler team since those tourney teams of 09 and 10 with their old coach Kelly Findlay who I also knew. Also best team iu has faced this yr not named nd or maryland. Whether iu likes it or not playing at bu at this pt not that much better than playing at pu. While its no big deal to iu, butler thinks of us as their biggest rival and brings out record fans and now being in big east their athletic teams talent is on par with iu for most part in every sport.

Wide open game

Iu can also throw long balls to toye now with same strategy that they could not do in past. Close with that also on ius end but no goals.
-
Butler definetely testing our d more than anyone recently with the balls over the top i predicted. Just missed one wide.
-
Greetings from Indy. Huge crowd. Definetely a lot of casual fans as not a ton of noise relative to the size of crowd (maybe 6,000 and close to full). This could change later. About 30-40% iu fans but a lot who i think live in indy and are not regular soccer fans and mostly iu bball fans.

The other 3 don't come out until Tuesday I believe. It is a little silly we got past after beating 2 ranked teams but in the grander scheme of things the only important number is our wins and losses and staying near the top of the RPI where are 7. We really need to get a top 4 seed in tourney to ensure we have home field to college cup. Whether you are 1, 2, 3 or 4 seed is irrelevant given tourney set up. Top 8 guarantees 2 home games. Top 16 1 home game. RPI is not an end all be all as we got a 7 last year with a 16 RPI but you would feel more comfortable about a coveted top 4 position if we could move up a couple more spots there.

Yes. I am close to an expert. I have done some work for Butler in the past and have been to several of their games and live in Indy (I am an IU fan first but root for Butler as well given past employment). First off they play on their football field so the lines can get confusing and the ball can hit the goal post rendering it out of bounds. The stadium is right next to Hinkle Fieldhouse on 49th Street off Meridian and shares the restrooms and concession stands with it through a side door. With that said all the facilities including Hinkle and the Football stadium are recently renovated and are pretty nice now. You can buy tickets here: https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/butler/EN/buy/details/17MSG08 for $7 now or $10 at the door. Given past few games and predicted nice weather and IU being Butlers 'Super Bowl' I predict a crowd of 4-5,000 with close to half IU fans creating a fun tournament atmosphere. In terms of the team I know their head coach Paul Snape just a little bit through my old position there (ironically I have not met Todd Yeagley). They have a decent but not great defense and a good offense. Their weapon is their lightening fast forwards. Several times a game they will whip balls over the top to their speedy forwards who will run out and try to beat a defender one on one before IU gets back. This has been extremely effective against the Hoosiers the last few years producing a couple goals a game for them. IU's D is the best it's been so I am curious to see if this strategy will work this time and get caught napping or it gets shut down (It worked for 2 goals last year against a nearly as good D in IU's 3-2 win). If IU can avoid allowing these run outs their chances are pretty good and team seems to get huge numbers back on D faster than ever before so this aspect will be very interesting especially given that IU has allowed only 2 goals in 14 games this year. Expecting a fun game and excited. I will definitely be there.

Not much to say except we nearly got an unnecessary 3rd goal late in the game twice on the same sequence. First Thomas took a swing on a break away that was deflected by their goalie back to Gutman who ran down the left side of the box and crossed it to Hyacenth in front of net where his tap in was cleared off the line by a defender. Otherwise another easy victory against a fairly solid team. Now lets look bigger picture. If we win one of our last two Big Ten games it will be our most in conference since 04 (although they have added 2 more games recently with Maryland and Rutgers). Next win will pass last year's win total also. The other question is do we want the pressure of trying to be first IU team in history to go undefeated (we have had a couple 1 loss seasons but never unblemished)? The last IU team to do that in 97 lost in college cup semi's to UCLA in OT. This brings us to Butler which is the least important game of the year left. I will be there living in Indy and hope to see a good Hoosier crowd. This is also a pretty good Butler team and a loss or especially a draw will not hurt us much. I know this Butler team well and their coach Paul Snape a little bit personally. If there is ever a game that breaks our shutout streak this will be it. Butler has a mediocre to average D but a really good offense and a style that can produce goals. A few times a game they will throw balls over the top and try to run their speedy forwards 1 on 1 versus a defender before rest of team is back (basically the same play we produced a goal with for Toye today but they try it several times a game) so we will have to be especially careful. This strategy has produced a couple goals against us the last few years. They no longer have David Goldsmith who plays on Indy 11 now to do it who was especially good at it but they do have a couple new guys who are very solid running that strategy (it worked a couple times versus Frisco in Bloomington when I saw them). Should be a fun game in Indy Wednesday and weather looks like it could not be nicer. I expect around 4-5,000 fans based on last few years with close to half IU fans which should produce a great tournament style atmosphere and fun game.

Gutman came down the left side with D in position and passed it right in front of net where Toye was and it deflected off OSU defender into net. Credit Toye with the goal thoough.
-
Unlike PSU and NW who will park the bus all game regardless of if you score, OSU started trying to attack once they got down. There was even a close call where a shot hit the post. As I said this is why it is so important to be able to break down teams who come out and try to play nothing but D all game. Last year as happened numerous times a game like this is 0-0 till late in the game and maybe the whole game. The freshman recruits have changed everything to make us an elite team in all facets of the game again which is the story of the season.
-
Ohio State parks the bus with 9-10 men on D and finally on an OSU counter we took the ball back and Dorsey played it ahead to a speeding Toye who beat the D down and went one on one with defender and beat the oncoming goalie. These are the type of goals we had 0 chance of scoring with Hyacinth the lead forward but can get with Toye now up top. Why we can finally score and defend especially against teams who choose to throw men back and not play offense.

https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2017/10/12/iu-soccer-coach-todd-yeagley-usmnt-soccer-world-cup-failure-we-cant-blow-up-system/757280001/ I am sure from Todd's perspective everything is fine since we get top players out of it at IU. That does not mean its a good system for US Soccer as a whole and does not make him look very smart as a coach given fan sentiment right now. Good scoop by Zach as well to get this.
-
We should of been team USA for the country. Obviously kidding. As good as we are we still are not on a pro level. Now some of those late 90's teams under Jerry probably could of given Team USA a run for their money and that i'm not kidding on.
-
Nope we lost in the regular season also to UK this year and results are mixed last few years. It's Louisville we've mostly owned in Baseball since 2012 (we also have a 3 game winning streak in soccer against UL with no game this year for first time in a while).
-
Another shutout another victory. This is absolutely a quality UK team but we are just better than everyone right now and cannot be scored on. Nearly gave up our first goal a couple times but a formidable UK attack was mostly neutralized. This is the level of competition we will face rest of season and appear more than ready. Now lets try to drive this bus to a Big Ten and National Championship which we look more than capable off. It's certainly the first top notch team IU's fielded in any team sport since our baseball team with Schwarber and Travis got walked off on in 13 Regional. That loss by baseball and basketball's loss to Cuse in Sweet 16 are probably the two most painful moments (only been a fan of IU team's since around 1997 given my age) experienced as an IU fan. Hopefully this ends better for our soccer team as any loss in a tourney will be much harder to take (unless its in College Cup) given the quality of this team.

Wow nearly gave up a goal finally as a UK corner kick into the box hits the post. 2-0 8 min left. Closest we've come to being scored on since that controversial line play late in ND game.
