Another reason why I think this team will be better next season if a “named” leader is no longer here and a “functional” leader(s) steps forward.

Missing piece? I would say a strong NO. We would be worse than we are now. X is far superior. Durham is a very good kid but as far as basketball goes X is a much better fit for us.

We won. All the guys we lost are shooting awful for their current teams. Durham has been a good player for them and scoring a lot from the line but X makes us the clear cut winner here. I would take Durr over Brunk and Kopp over Hunter any day. The only reason it’s close is Franklin is so much of an upgrade over Stewart even though as you said he is not shooting well.

Gallo is more than an ‘energy’ player right now. I suspect he will continue to improve in the off-season and he is a starter next year putting up good numbers. Although his game will always be more than about numbers because his presence on the court and what he brings makes the team better. He should continue starting this season playing roughly 30 minutes a night.

Of course your last statement is true. He needs to continue working on his shot (I don’t think he is a final product) and we need more talent or more improvement from current players. But a lot think that we need to upgrade his position. That if Gallo is starting and playing a lot of minutes that means we are not good. That is what I disagree with.

Everyone can have a different opinion that’s what makes this fun and a great place. I would argue the opposite. Gallo starting and playing close to 30 would be a big reason why we could be great as a team. I could care less about his stats. Kid knows how to play the game and his mere presence on the court makes us better as a team.

Teams can ignore him from deep but he has a killer floater and he can get to the rim and finish on his drives (he didn’t against MSU but he has shown it). I guess we disagree that his shooting will improve. I think he will get there and I think we have a staff that will push him and help him get there.

The best team in the league has a player for them that is playing over 30 minutes and shooting less than 30% from the floor. He’s a senior and he impacts winning. He is not their best player but I bet everyone on that team would say he is their most valuable. Their record would not be what it is without this kid. That’s kind of how I see Gallo. I don’t care if we are 15-15 or 25-5. Gallo should be seeing close to 30 minutes a night.

I honestly don’t know. I do know we are a better team with him on the floor. It’s easy to point out like so many do on here that he can’t shoot. He brings so many intangibles that can’t be measured that I don’t know where to start. Will his shooting improve? Idk, but I have reason to believe it will. Why? Because he has improved his form from last year. That shows me the kid is willing to put in the work. We have a so called All American on the team that talks a lot about developing his game but we have seen zero reason to believe it. We have seen it with Gallo. I’m too young to have seen the Dane Fife years but I’m told Dane couldn’t shoot a lick his first few years but he worked on it and was a threat as an upperclassman. Who is to say Gallo won’t find a similar path. Heck, even if he doesn’t he is still a fine player. Let’s see what he does tomorrow. He’s already shut down the best guard in the league for a half and caused him so much problems that he got frustrated and picked up a flagrant. I’m not saying he’s going to shut down Johnny Davis but he is going to earn everything he gets against Gallo and my bet is that he doesn’t go off and that Gallo makes it difficult for him. So many like to just throw out stats and shooting percentages so let me try one. Gallo is not a point guard but he has been forced to play some with Rob out. He played the point against MSU some and they like to pressure and pick up full court at times. Gallo had zero turnovers with 3 assists and maybe a steal or two mixed in. Some guys know how to play and some don’t. This kid knows how to play. He needs to continue to start and play close to 30 every night.

100%. His defense is underrated and he is very active. Having been to several games he is vocal and he actually moves unlike another wing that was in the starting lineup that was recently suspended.

I think the days of Parker starting are over. He was starting for the reason you mentioned but his defense is well not good and that’s being kind. Kopp is much better on defense and that’s hard to even type. Plus he has been suspended or whatever twice. Some may not like it but CMW values defense and following the rules above all and that’s not going to change.

Their is more to the game than shooting. Their are fundamentals and defense. Trey should be starting and he should be playing 30 minutes. We are a better team with Trey Galloway on the floor period end of story.

He also played tough on defense. How many turnovers did he have because he had to play point because we have zero options (KL is not an option). I’ll wait. How many good passes did he make? I’ll wait. He looked a whole lot better than the guy he just replaced in the starting lineup.

Yeah and some schools are playing Kofi types at the 5. If he is starting and playing 30 minutes I’m good. He brings a lot to the table and he is improving. He has earned those minutes so kudos to CMW for rewarding him. CMW has also said he has been phenomenal. We need a player like Trey Galloway and he will continue to get better.

TJD is who he is at this point. He is not going to suddenly gain the skills he has talked about adding to his game. It’s not just blind hope with some of the guys I have mentioned. I have seen them getting better. Trey Galloway has put in the work with our staff to correct the form on his stroke. I have no doubt his shooting % will get better because he has shown he will put in the work already. The game is slowing down for Jordan Geronimo. I have been a little hard on him here in the past because I didn’t think he was ready like others did. He is getting there. I have seen improvement. I don’t have anything to back up why I think Mr. Bates will get there other than I just sense that he will. He is wired a little different. His ranking hasn’t shown up yet. It will.

I definitely agree that we need players who put in work and not just talk about it. I’m optimistic and encouraged with what I have seen so far that we might have a couple of those types guys on the roster.

Your making my argument for me. The book has been out on TJD since he has got here and he still has no jumper and has one hand. If that’s who he wants to be that’s fine. I love his dunks. Sometimes it’s up to the player. I have seen Galloway and Geronimo improve This year. The form on Trey’s jumper is much improved. His shooting % will improve too because the kid will put in the time and work on it. Geronimo is getting better in season. I think the staff has a lot to do with it and him just growing up and becoming more comfortable and dedicated to basketball. Bates has had a lot going on this year. Still believe he is special. I value them more than mediocre.
