But you don't get the player for three years. No guarantee of that. You get him for one and if he wants to move on, he does. Quinn Ewers had an NIL deal for Ohio State for $1.4 million. Took only two snaps in 2021 and redshirted. Transferred to Texas and have been there three years. Just like Lewis, he was the second overall rated quarterback in his class. But freshman starting in college are rare, especially ones that are meant to lead good programs. So if you are going to pay that kind of NIL money, you are forced into starting him right away even if he's not clearly the best option.

I don't necessarily equate a player on a winning team to be a winning player nor a player on a losing team to be a losing player. Winning players IMO make the team better. I am writing it from the viewpoint that winning players make a team win more games. I put Reed in the Joe Hillman category -- a guy who filled the role he was put in very well and made the team better.

My inside source (FWIW) told me that Lewis is looking for $2.5 million in NIL....and that the thought among staff is that it makes more sense to either stay within the program or go the Rourke-type route than commit that kind of money to a freshman.

Smith played 35 minutes, Loyer 30 and TKR 28. Berg and Gicari Harris started and only combined for 28 minutes but that was mostly due to foul problems. a lot of people assumed that Heide and Furst would get a big step up in minutes but the exhibition would suggest otherwise — 26 combined minutes and 0 points. The biggest concern would be Purdue’s defense — creighton shot 60%.

Time will tell -- sample size of two shots isn't going to be much to go on. The fact that he played six minutes in the exhibition game is probably indicative that he isn't going to be looked on for big minutes. He is a decent shooter for his size and I would expect that you'll see more ten to twelve footers for him. At worst, he's an experienced big in case of foul problems or injury.

In the last minute, offensively they put good free throw shooters on the court -- Ballo out. Defensively, Ballo came back in. The five on the floor to end the game (IU had a 4 point lead and were on defense) were Ballo, Reneau, Leal, Rice, and Carlyle. Starters all played between 31-33 minutes. Tennessee played their starters quite a bit as well with Ziegler getting 37 minutes. 6 guys with 20 or more minutes for Tennessee then it dropped to 10.

Also, if today was an indication, Hatton isn't going to play much. Mgbako/Reneau/Ballo will start and when we go to the bench, you are likely to see combinations with three guards or a more traditional small forward with Bako sliding to the 4.

You really have to remember how bad we looked against top competition last season. It's just an exhibition, nothing more, but teams are playing these to win.
