IUBB vs SIEU - Wednesday, 11.06.24 @ 8:00 on BTN
RaceToTheTop replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Seems like a lot of long faces over a 19 point win. Would you have more comfortable with the Pom prediction of a 24 point win? The bottom line is that you can't just eke out wins like IU did last year. 19 point wins v 24 point wins.....kind of meh difference. Anyway, the positives and negatives I saw: The defense -- especially the on ball perimeter defense -- was outstanding. I'm used to hearing about us getting burnt by 'some unknown player' from deep. SIUE shot 19% from deep and just 35% overall. IU seemed to have found something with the PNR in the second half. I know it's SIUE, but the PNR was working regardless of who IU was running it with. Carlyle defense is outstanding. Free throws: 82% at 14 of 17. Obviously MM's performance. And his shot looked so smooth tonight. The negatives -- Defensive rebounding was poor. 16 offensive boards is waaayyyyy too many. Have to a better job of corralling those. Way too many turnovers. Luke Goode's shot. Not sure what is up with that. You can certainly blame Woodson for our shooting woes, but Goode had two really good looks and missed them. Looks like it's a little in his head right now. Carlyle needs to get started offensively. IMO we need to get him moving to the bucket more. ----------------- One final note: it does take time for new players to asymalate. Worth noting the returning players (Mgbako, Reneau, and Galloway) were a combined 20 of 28 from the floor (5 of 7 from three) while the new players were 10 of 29 and 1 of 9 from three. -

In a game that is in the balance, you probably would have seen Galloway getting a lot more minutes than he had tonight. Cupps and Hatton probably would have not seen the court. It's one reason that I don't like NET's offensive efficiency. -

Line moved all over a few points either way. Anyway, avoid big point spreads on early season basketball games. They aren't based on much. -

For the quote on the Pom line: Pom had IU by 24, not 27.5. Point spread in Vegas was 25. -

Ballo is a man on the boards and solid defensively. IMO Tucker hasn't looked very good tonight so far. I know he put up good numbers against Marian but I believe he didn't play against Tennessee, did he? -

His dad had made a similar like to a post that was anti-Woodson last spring in terms of his son not getting 'enough attention' from Woods on. And whether you agree with it or not (it's not like people haven't said on here that Woodson doesn't pay enough attention to recruits), as a father of a recruit you keep your damn business off of social media. -
Interesting note: Painter announced today that the Boilers would NOT be redshirting Raleigh Burgess. 6'11" freshman big who right now is their third center, although Painter seemed to think that he could work his way into minutes. That said, he only played 5 minutes tonight. Because the game was closer than anticipated for about 34 minutes, starters play more than I think they probably would have (Smith played 35, TKR 33, and Loyer 31). Furst.....only saw 2 minutes.

Purdue closes on a 20-9 run, wins 90-73. TAMCC seemed to run out of gas and it was a layup line for Purdue at the end. Couple of notes: Myles Colvin had a very nice game off the bench. 15 assists for Braden Smith. Freshman big Jacobsen had 13 and 7 with a good amount of those points coming on oops from Smith. Berg looked bad. TKR did his job. Everyone assumed Heide was going to make a big jump but he's barely getting minutes -- both in their exhibition against Creighton and tonight. Caleb Furst barely seeing any time and if he stuck around for his senior year thinking he would, he'd be incorrect.
-
Pretty big run for Purdue after TAMCC got within 3. Now 81-71 Purdue at the under 4 minute time out.
-
Purdue only up 6 on Texas A&M CC, 67-61
-
The good and bad so far: Getting 18 mpg, averaging 9 points and just under 6 rebounds. That's not too bad. The bad: still has a high foul rate and 129 minutes of play has blocked exactly 3 shots. Have to think he's getting abused on the PNR.

Yep, rumors.....I was the one that posted that my source (who does have ties to the Indiana football program that I consider useful) said that is what he was told about the $2.5 million tag. Given some money that has been thrown out to some top recruits by the big boys, it's a number I could believe -- but doesn't mean it's true. I do think he is shopping himself and not truly 100% committed to USC since he keeps visiting places. -

There should be zero chance you can accurately spot that behind the 24 there. -

Run or some high percentage completion here. Just get to half with it at 21-10. -

Even with the missed holding card there, he was dead in the water.
