Juwan Morgan RETURNING For Senior Season
RaceToTheTop replied to Cheaney40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Maybe, but If Taj Gibson plays a couple inches bigger than his height he can be an NBA power forward. How many 6’7” power forwards are there in the NBA? There are tons of shooting guards that are that tall. -

Tan Gibson should play bigger than 6’7” since he’s 6’9”. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Here is why I really think it was shoddy journalism......pretty important quote that Pitino said that they didn't bother to ask about. “The Dad never asked for a single thing,” Pitino said. “The Mom never asked for a single thing. The kid never asked for a single thing. I thought it was one of the most honest recruitment I’ve seen.” -

I guess I just don't see 'the sound research'. Tim Langford running an Adidas backed AAU team was public knowledge. The main source going on record is someone suing Adidas who claims to not know anything going on at his own school.....so not sure why his word would be trusted on items going on elsewhere. I don't have any doubt that Adidas wanted Romeo Langford at an Adidas school. I'm not sure why it's considered news that a shoe company looks to keep players in their AAU 'stable' of schools. -

I'd say that's part of their job. But just because it's easier to get clicks by doing the easy, non newsworthy thing doesn't make it good journalism. -

Well, Kravitz was always very light on Crean. He wrote this puff piece on him last year. https://www.wthr.com/article/kravitz-crean-tells-bob-hes-disappointed-but-not-discouraged-not-in-the-least -

And they tried to insinuate that Langford was guided to go to Indiana by Adidas. Simply put.....not true. Adidas wants to try to have him under their 'umbrella' for the future. Adidas is concerned about Adidas.....they aren't concerned about Indiana. -

You are cherry picking one line from the Indy Star story which basically says that there is nothing really new and there is nothing that is going to have any kind of effect. My problem with the Washington Post story is that it's a story that was relevant maybe twenty years ago. Seriously, I was reading books on the subject twenty years. Guys like William Wesley (World Wide Wes) have been around forever.... Basically IMO the Washington Post just ran a piece on something that was common knowledge -- that Time Langford ran an Adidas sponsored AAU team. That sure as heck wasn't a secret. -

It’s a ‘good story’ if you are looking for clicks, but it’s not really anything relevant. indy Star sums up my thoughts..... https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.indystar.com/amp/616494002 -

So, the Washington Post’s breaking news is that Tim Langford’s AAU team that was established 16 months ago — to everyone’s knowledge — was sponsored by Adidas. i can’t wait for tomorrow’s headline about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. -

As has been mentioned, even Al Durham’s dad runs an AAU team. The only thing different here is that Romeo is a better player. why is this a story -

This is the thing....IT'S SIMPLY NOT NEW. Tim Langford's team became an AAU team back in January of 2017. Rick Pitino's words of 'Langford said whatever shoe company gave the most money for his AAU program would be the shoe company he picks to run his team with'.....well, no ****. Simply a pretty shoddy job of 'news reporting' IMO. Not even a 'where there's smoke, there's fire'.....more like 'you know, it's possible there might be smoke, so there must be arson involved'. -

So......everything done and reported here was public knowledge (unlike the money paid to Louisville and Kansas families as well as the Louisville parties)....the article says nothing done here was illegal and mentions how common place the activities were..... what exactly are we supposed to be concerned about? Kids being aligned with shoe brands and AAU is old hat. Unless there is improper money being exchanged (which the article implies that there is no evidence of), then, quite frankly, so what? Seems pretty irresponsible reporting to go after an 18 year old with a 'there wasn't anything illegal done, but based on things that we have absolutely no proof or evidence, something might possibly could be;...... -
Two 5 Star Recruits in Same Class?

And ESPN had McCormack, Perry, and Jaylen Brown all as 4 stars. -
Yes....I don't know of any other quality grad transfer bigs that were still out there. It's not a wasted scholarship regardless of how many minutes he plays because it was just going to sit dormant anyway.
-
I think that the big thing to remember is that he was the sixth man on a top twenty-five team that had just a seven man rotation. He had more minutes per game at St. Mary's than McSwain, Hartmann, and Justin Smith did here. Honestly, I think the hope is offering IU what Hartmann did in 2014-5 and 2015-6 but with the possibility of being able to play better defense down low.

Everything you said about IU... Kansas has as well plus recent success. It’s not a ‘fluke’ that Romeo chose IU, but it’s also not like we owned his rights. Miller got him to come to IU through hard work and basketball knowledge. He didn’t get him to IU because ‘this is Indiana.’. -

They actually say you can get this hepatitis outbreak through heredity — have to have gotten it from a family member. That means 100% of Kentucky has it. -
Exactly. Arguing over whether Davis or Fitzner should be on the court is useless. They both have their own skill sets and because they are very different, matchup will dictate who is on when assuming they are both healthy. But what we did do by gaining him.is give ourselves an option and another look. For all we know at this time, Race Thompson could be in the middle more often than either one.
-
Maybe, but I don't see how that really changes with Fitzner. I haven't seen him play, but I have to doubt that he really offers any kind of rim protection when he blocked a grand total of 28 shots in three years. One thing striking to me is that St.Mary's employed just a seven man rotation and that Fitzner was one of only two players over 6'6". He was set to be the only returning big. From what I've seen the only recruit they have for 2018 is one player.....a nice recruit, #87 ranked overall player a post. But it seems strange to me that if we are expecting him to come in and be our starting center, it would seem strange to expect that of a guy who by all means left a situation where he should have been getting big minutes somewhere else after not getting that much last year. I expect him to be in the mix for minutes but I think that I were to set the over/under on minutes he would get I would put it at about what he got last year at St.Mary's ....15 mpg.
-
I have to say there seem to be a lot Evan Fitzner experts that have likely never seen him play more than a handful of minutes at most.
