IU has only 5 turnovers after 29 minutes. Michigan has 3.

I have no idea what a charge is anymore. Not sure what else Durham could have done a couple of possessions ago.

I'd say there is zero chance of UCLA hiring Pitino. UCLA fired Jim Harrick just a season after he won s title for lieing on an expense report. Pit in o's transgressions go waayyy beyond that. Pitino furthered condemned himself by suing Louisville after being fired. Schools stay sway from coaches who fo things liks that.

Yeah, I'm not sure what he was supposed to do in that circumstance....doubled in the backcourt, he can either pick up the dribble or try to find someone open. No one came to the ball. So the turnover looks like it's on him, but someone is supposed to flash to center court.

Win. On to the next game. I have yet to see a win I would return. Bottom line, we are a top 20ish team. I'm expecting around a 11-9 Big Ten record, 20-11 overall. And I'm sure if that's our final record some will talk about how we faded down the stretch instead of the schedule simply got very tough. We are 3-0 in the conference against three of the teams near the bottom. Thing is.....that's the best that you can be in three games against three teams at the bottom. Guarantee there will be teams in the conference that wish they had went 3-0 against this set.

Oh, I don't disagree. My problem with the current testing is that because its still just in its state of infancy: 1. There are tons of false positives resulting from the tests. 2. Players will take note of the # of false positives and which makes them less likely to report concussion symptoms. For instance, in my son's case, he dropped a heavy cooler on his head one day after practice. Had a really bad headache that night, but chose not to report it.....felt that if he did and didn't have a concussion, it would still have prevented him from playing for quite a while because of the difficulty he had in passing it in the first place. Everything turned out to be fine and there weren't any signs of concussion after that, but I think it demonstrates an unintended consequence that comes when the safety precautions do err so far on the side of safety.
  7. I think getting out of Fort Wayne helped.

Yes, and I didn't say it was of zero importance, just that it wasn't taken as much. Not a surprise that a team doesn't get the overall #1 after a loss. But the committee does have a history of locking teams into seeds despite the result of their conference championship when the title game ends close to the selection time

Honestly, I think that Phinissee being out is probably good reason to have Langford, Green, and Durham have limited minutes together as we are short at the guard position. I'm not really that concerned about Green's performance as others are and Durham has certainly stepped his game up from last year. I'd like to see some of our big men get more court time and go with a more traditional two guard line up with Rob out.

A lot were short and long term memory tests. Part of it had him receiving a list of words quickly and then stating which of those words were on that list when words were flashed on a computer for sixty seconds. The long term memory tests had him recall that same set of words after about ten minutes. The funny thing was he pretty much always passed the long term test -- I believe he was allowed to miss one on that and still pass -- but he struggled with the short term test. One mistake and you failed. I found the test online and tried it and I did pass, but I had a coworker try it and he failed one of the tests. I know this was a new test that the IU extension was using -- they had used a different test previously. I have no idea if IU Bloomington is using the same test.

They discuss comparison of baseline concussion in this document. If this test is similar to the one my son took (don't know if it was), then they are comparing it one where the player achieved a certain score.....but might not truly be the player's baseline. My son's baseline score isn't what he initially took (and again, totally non-concussed) as he didn't score the minimum needed to pass it for a multiple attempts.....the baseline score they use for him is not really his baseline.

    Injury Updates

My son is a freshman playing tennis at an IU extension. Everyone had to start the year by taking a baseline test.....don't score the minimum, and you can't play until you pass. He was allowed to take it twice per day....and it took him three days before he finally passed it. Several other athletes had to take it multiple times as well. The concussion protocol really errs on the side of caution. I know that in my son's case (albeit, he's a little bit different case as he had childhood epilepsy and his brain functions a little differently), if he were to ever actually get a concussion I can't fathom how long it would take him to pass concussion protocol.

IMHO, I never really count conference tournament championships more than anything as extra wins. The committee has shown they really do much with them in terms of seeding.

Ask fans at Iowa their opinion of Alford. Ask UCLA fans. Think about this: Indiana fans were obviously very brutal to Mike Davis.....and when he came back a couple of years ago as a visiting coach, he was given a very warm reception. Steve Alford will never receive that reception at Iowa or UCLA. If you don't advance the program OR demonstrate positive traits as an individual, people remember that. Alford is welcome back at Missouri State and New Mexico because he exceeded their expectations in terms of wins....he didn't do that at Iowa and UCLA. If you do that AND you are demonstrate low character, the fan base has no use for you (rightly so).

In my case....I'm 50 and have zero use for Dakich and Alford. Knight was a great coach but a flawed man and at this point in my life I want to look forward and not back. Knight has chosen to keep himself distanced from IU so I don't spend much time hoping for someone to come back that has openly rejected olive branches.

As well as attempting to use a Christian athlete's group to try to intimidate the victim into dropping the charges.

(2019) SG Armaan Franklin to IU

What's strange is that we can say with the same logic that coaches have 'inconsequential' jobs as well, yet fans create web sites wanting to fire them. And the truth is we don't want them fired for something that is long term -- building their player's character -- but rather because they don't win games. This isn't pointed at any particular coach or poster, just an observation.

(2019) SG Armaan Franklin to IU

Okay, didn't catch that. I am a teacher and can back that up. Also have an incredible shortage of those going into the profession.....and in their infinite wisdom the state DOE instituted a teacher testing program which further removes candidates in an already short field. At this point there are something like 2,000 teaching positions filled in the state by people without teaching credentials. To give you an idea about what's happening with these tests -- the first year they changed the test needed to receive a middle school math endorsement, only 2 of the 50 teaching candidates passed it. The cut scores for most of these tests are set at unrealistic levels.

Part of it is the amount that players are questioning every call, particularly the obvious ones.....and it seems to be a reflection of a coach not controlling their own players.

(2019) SG Armaan Franklin to IU

It's amazing how when watching an IU game how I feel the officials are doing a crappy job compared to watching a game where I don't have a dog in the fight. We are biased as fans....kind of our job. I keep the scorebook for a local high school team and have gotten to know refs and their reffing styles over the past thirty years or so. Have to say there are just about one in twenty that I feel aren't fit for the job....and those tend to be the ones that I am just seeing for the first time or two which means they are pretty new to the varsity level, so there is a good chance that they will grow into it. Guys that ref for twenty years or more don't stick around if they aren't competent. Let's take Teddy Valentine for example. The truth is if it was just about calling a game....he was adequate. His problem was one of personality, not ability. And that was ultimately the reason power conferences stopped hiring him. As IU fans we hated him because he seemed to intentionally egg on confrontations, but I think if you track the numbers the calls he made were in line with other officials. That said, keeping your personality out of the way is something he failed at. I'm not a fan of an official being the 'show'. I've seen officials at the high school level interact with a rabid fan in such a way to calm the fan down and make the entire experience much more enjoyable for everyone. Something as simply as an official laughing at a particularly funny jab given to them by a fan typically helps calm the fan base.

So, Mr. Dakich, still think Alford was the guy to hire? BTW, UCLA's loss to Liberty....at home....came with all five starters being top 50 prospects.

Right now only two conferences have played any conference games -- the Big Ten (which has played two games each) and the Southern conference (which has played one). What we end up with is a lot of non-conference games that are mismatches, making it harded to move up the rankings if you weren't there to begin with. Personally, I hate the 20 game conference schedule. With that many conference games, it encourages teams to load up on cupcakes to accumulate wins. Take Purdue for example.....they played a really tough non-conference schedule and struggled. This year, a .500 conference record should easily get you into the tournament.....don't think they will if they finish .500.
