NIT Game Thread - IU vs. St. Francis (PA) | 3/19 @ 7PM(ET) on ESPN
RaceToTheTop replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To be fair, they've won three of their last six.....all of those coming against Butler, who has lost 6 of 8. -
No, we don't den't deserve to be in. Truth is you could say that about four teams that make it in this year as well.

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

As the parent of an 18 year old, stop throwing hatred at 18 year olds making life decisions that we all got to make without people who don't know us criticizing our choice of college. -
Donors.
-
I....gulp.....agree with Old Friend.
-
Honestly, forget the hiring of Miller as something that he should ever be fired for. We can be revisionist, but nationally people in the know felt like it was a good hire. The unforgivable offense was the hiring of Tom Allen. That is no basic due diligence.
-
I think the fan base has been very bad toward DeVonte Green. He certainly plays out of control on quite a few occasions, but I never doubted his effort. And his ceiling is high.
-
I'm an optimist. I see Glass as half-fired.

Our starting point guard was a 136th ranked freshman and Al Durham was like 250th by 247 composite. Reality check: We had exactly three players on our roster that were top 100 recruits by 247 when they entered IU. Juwan Morgan wasn't....he was at 117. Phinnissee wasn't....he was at 136. The guys ranked in the top 100 were Langford, De'ron Davis (at 40), Jerome Hunter (at 59), and Justin Smith (78). Davis was coming off a torn ACL and still isn't capable of playing big minutes. Hunter didn't play a minute. We all love Juwan Morgan....but how much of that is based on the fact that he gets so much out of what he has and not from the fact that he is actually an ultra gifted player?

Don't use facts.
-
At IU, they want titles. The mist criticism I ever heard a coach get was Crean for losing to Syracuse. He was never forgiven for that.
-
Rick Majerus was NEVER healthy enough to be coaching.
-
And Mike Davis got closer to a banner than either of them.
-
If we had Purdue's success, fans still wouldn't be happy. And as long as he's been there and had lack of tournament success, there would have been plenty of fans calling for his head.
-
Let's just say they weren't wishing him well heading into the NBA and leave it at that.
-
We lost 12 if 13 games midseason, but you are concerned about losing a game to a decent low/mid major at the end if the season will effect recruiting? Seriously, I'm glad 18 year old recruits aren't as fragile as fans are. The things I heard our 'fans' yelling at Romeo today were appalling.
-
So? Simply put, I don't get fan sentiment of giving young guys more games. If you don't want to watch it, fine.
-
When I was watching him in warm ups, I thought he looked sick. Might have been.
-
Then don't watch it if you don't want. There are a lot of other channels on your TV.
-
How much you willing to bet on that statement?

I mentioned this in another thread, but the fact that the NCAA doesn't even calculate RPI any longer represents the idea that they knew it had outlived its usefulness and they had stopped looking at it in meeting rooms. Consider this: IU's strength of schedule is 50th by RPI standards. KenPom has it at 11. Sagarin has it at 13. Simply put, RPI did a horrendous job of measuring SOS, which is the main reason its gone. I also mentioned this....let's say IU had a couple more shots go in -- say they had beaten Purdue and Iowa once. They would be 19-12 with wins over Michigan St (x2), Wisconsin, Louisville, Marquette, Purdue, and Iowa. And you know what their RPI would be? 52......one spot behind Yale. Sorry, but RPI ratings are dead and there is a reason they are.
-
Except the old system saw 15 loss Vanderbilt and 15 loss Alabama make the tournament in the last two seasons. The problem with RPI wasn't really in its counting of losses. The problem was in its mind numbingly bad way of rating strength of schedule. By RPI standards, our SOS this year was 50th. Kenpom has it at 11, Sagarin has it at 13. Any reputable system puts us at about that level. Think about this: If we had won two more games and were 19-12, our RPI would raw rating would put us 52nd, one spot below......YALE, who lost four games in the Ivy league.

The Crock of Crap B1G Postseason Awards Thread
RaceToTheTop replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The coaches put Jordan Bohanon on the third team. He's a 12/2/3 player who shot 38% and isn't a particularly good defender. So have to say I'm not sure the coaches votes are real good. Hell, Bohanon had a worse season than Ryan freaking Cline and Cline played on a team that tied for the title. -

Why wouldn't he deserve it? -
Yeah, I get that Texas played a tough non-con schedule...but they likely will finish 16-16. If you use Lunardi’s logic, a loss to Texas would move them from bye to last four in. Even an upset win over Kansas and a loss in the next round leaves them 17-16....meanwhile we had a talking head on national TV saying IU shouldn’t be in because of their record but dudn’t Mention Alabama, Florida, or Texas — teams with our record or worse.
