Guess I don’t get the fascination. With where we rank in NIL. Doesn’t change how I root for them as a fan.

FWIW, he had a DeVries (West Virginia) offer.

Anyone suggesting box and one for an extended, schemed strategy isn't a serious basketball fan.

I don't know that Goode will absolutely get his, just my gut says he will.

By the same token he also wasn't out there to avoid scoring. I like what he did and feel his minutes were deserved but there were times when his not even looking at the basket hurt.

You said that Goode didn't translate in terms of W's and L's. Fact was that without him the team would have had a worse record. I wouldn't say that a team missing the tournament is automatically devoid of leadership. Might not have enough leadership but that doesn't mean void.

I'm fine if he's there, fine if he's not. Much prefer Goode, though. My gut says that Goode is going to get his waiver and Leal isn't FWIW. Leal's case just isn't as strong. Leal played games at the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year. Hard to say he was really 'hurt' for all the games he didn't play. Goode, on the other hand, had his games after he recovered. Another item on Goode: he played 8 regular season games, 1 BTT, and 1 in the NCAA tournament. I believe in figuring the 30% that the NCAA only counts regular season games. The issue at hand IMO isn't the 30% mark, it's the fact he played the games in the second half and there has already been one ruling that would seem to favor him.

? When IU started a little run toward the end of the year it was when they went smaller -- only one big on the floor and with Goode on the court more. IU was 7-4 in conference when he played 30+ minutes and 3-6 when he didn't.

I'm saying he's not an elite defender. But he is a plus defender and low volume shooter so he isn't going to waste many offensive possessions. That said, you can't really play two guys like him at once because that means you have two players who aren't really scoring threats on the court. Don't think he and Enright can really be on the court together much.

Defensive metrics are still in their infancy. It's a vicious circle.....it certainly helps a player's metrics when the other options they you replace them with are bad defenders.

Goode's ability AND willingness to shoot the basketball (and make free throws) makes him a much better player than Leal. I think you are way overselling Leal. He's a role player but if he's playing a lot of minutes it's because other players aren't doing their job. If the version of Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle had been the 23-24 versions, Leal shouldn't have seen the court. The reason he should have been on the court was more due to the failure of others.

I certainly wouldn't call Leal 'an elite perimeter defender'. But yeah, wanting Dallas James over him is just ludicrous.

I would prefer a player defending a bad coach to the press than one calling them out. Issues should be handled behind closed doors.

Just a FWIW, since I can't add Josh Harris to the roster on Torvik I added the most similarly rated power forward portal player on 247 that is currently unsigned (Doctor Bradley from Arkanas Pine-Bluff) and IU's ranking went from 38 to 31. If you then add Goode but not Leal (I am still very doubtful that Leal wins his appeal), IU moves to 24.

Harris will also bump IU up. For some reason he isn’t listed on the roster or in the available transfer pool. FWIW, if you add Goode and Leal it moves IU into the 20s and that’s without adding Harris. EDIT: adding only Goode moves IU to 28. Adding Goode and Leal moves IU to 24. I would guess adding those two plus Harris puts IU around 20

He would have to win his lawsuit in order to get another year of eligibility.....and I would say his case really isn't that strong. He's waiver was already denied by the NCAA and he's played four years of NCAA ball -- the first at a DII level. Eddie Lampkin was a player IU inquired about that has a better chance of getting an extra year. His case is basically the same as Leal's.

I noticed you ignored the fact that Goode was a 20 minute player on an elite eight team.

They were critical to our success last year. The problem was that there were other guys that were more critical to our failure. Goode is a pretty high volume three point shooter who can hit 40%. He is most definitely a good thing to have. In 23-24 he was a 20 minute per game player on a team that won the BTT and went 29-9. Not sure how we would 'be in trouble' if he played a part in the success next year.

One thing to keep in mind with Goode and Leal's waivers: Goode played in two games that were beyond the regular season (one BTT and one NCAA tournament game). Leal played in one NCAA tournament game. So in terms of regular season games, Goode played in 8 and Leal played in 9. One of Leal's regular season games was in the Hoosier Tip-Off Classic, so it's possible that only 8 of his games counted if IU used the in season tournament exemption. In both cases I'll still state that their coaches should have kept them out of action during the second half of the season to preserve their year of eligibility and this would all have been moot. ------------ While I'm in the camp of preferring Goode and a big as opposed to Goode and Leal should they get waivers approved, at this point the pickings left on bigs are really slim.

Personally, I don't know what takes the NCAA so long to rule on these cases. It's not like there is any secret evidence that we don't know about.

IF Goode and Leal bother return and you add the per game numbers for each player on the roster (excluding Sisley since he'll be a freshman): 44% of the team's shots would have been three pointers. As a group, they shot 50% from inside the arc and 38% on threes and 45% overall. Effective shooting percentage was 53%. Free throw percentage of 75%. By means of comparison, last year's IU team: 33% of the team's shots were three pointers; 53% inside the arc, 32% on threes and 46% overall. Effective shooting percentage was 50%. Free throw percentage was 71%.

Torvik projection: without Harris on the roster (a glitch in the program, have him removed from the transfer portal but not on IU's roster), IU's roster is currently ranked 38th. Add Goode and Leal (but not Harris since the system won't put him in), and IU climbs to 24th. Simply put, the roster rankings from 20-40 are really close.

Josh Harris to Indiana from North Florida

This IMO is the most underrated pickup. Three years eligibility, + rebounder and at the rim scorer.
