Transfer Portal w IU Interest
RaceToTheTop replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Haven't seen anything this morning. That said, the Ballo commitment didn't get released quickly. Staff I am sure all know whether Essegian is committed or not, so nothing we can do but wait. Malone coming in today, Carlyle on Saturday. Haven't heard about Williams visit being cancelled but am assuming he would cancel. -

Don't know what's going on with Tyme's account -- he had mentioned some time yesterday that he made tweets in the morning and they were deleted, not by him. He had some tweets yesterday as well, mostly in regard to Essegian that looked to be deleted now as well. Have no reason to believe that he is deleting them himself but it looks like someone is reporting his tweets and they are getting blocked. While I don't like his harping on other 'media' not knowing what is really going at IU, I certainly haven't seen anything he has tweeted that is ban worthy. -

True, but Riley Monix of Morehead State was an NAIA player of the year I believe in 23 and he was a stud at Morehead State last year. I think it's a bigger issue if a player is simply more athletic than his NAIA counterparts which is how they score. Malone certainly was bigger, but the fact that he can shoot it as well IMO says he also did it with some skills. -

I would not think that it is 'along with'. Also, is there even anything saying that Walker was on an official visit? With the little 5 this weekend, he could simply be there for the show. Assumption is that Carlyle is committing this weekend. Assuming that is the case, I can't see that both Essegian AND Walker would be on the roster. That would mean that IU would have Rice, Carlyle, Galloway, Leal, Cupps, Newton, Essegian or Walker. Obviously you can play some three guard lineups but if you have both Essegian and Walker, that's 8 guards. -
FWIW, went to a Wisconsin board to see if they were posting about Essegian (they weren't but they aren't as active there). Did read that the belief there is that Wisky has $2.5 million in NIL, so under half of what IU has. That said, I don't want to compare our football NIL to theirs.

Portal is a bad thing for the NCAA. But damn it makes for an interesting off season.

Spring so time to start the thread up again. I developed golfer's elbow last year. Kind of thing that can linger for a long time. Been playing with a compression sleeve and have cut my swing back -- if I extend my elbow with too much force can start the pain pretty quickly. Honestly, the golfer's elbow has been the best thing to happen to my golf game in years. Playing more 'old man golf' -- not trying to crush the ball, putting it consistently in pretty good positions and taking my medicine when I am in poor position to avoid big scores. I'd been running a handicap of around 20 the last few years -- lowest I ever had was an 11 about 25 years ago -- and am currently am at a 13. Put up back to back 82 - 83 earlier this year which is great for me.

Anyway, Essegian commitment tomorrow morning? Would be a nice video to see. Add Malone and hold onto the last scholly as a break glass in case of emergency? -

I've basically called it quits on it. Gave it my best shot and just reached dead ends. Will probably keep reading what he posts on twitter because if you muddle through the insults of what other insiders have said, what he has posted has been pretty accurate. -

Bottom line right now is that while he continues in a style that is very abrasive and focused on calling others out, he has pretty accurate info. It wasn't ever the information that he offered here that was the issue. It was the pounding to death of it and lack of people skills that were the issue. -

Gabe Cupps is the ultimate Hoosier.....kid recruits other players even if they would take playing time from him. -

Drew Thelwell (Morehead State) commits to Iowa. Perhaps their Perkins replacement -- doesn't play the defense Perkins does or score much, but good distributor. 10 ppg, 3.1 reb, 6.2 apg. 44/34/64 shooter. Tarris Reed of Michigan commits to U Conn. Of interest -- U Conn likely could be starting two bigs next year in Tarris Reed and Sampson Johnson. Malik Mack (Harvard) officially joins Georgetown. Nikita Kontstantynovskyi (Monmouth), 6'10" center enters. 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 23 minutes. Mostly mentioned here because that last name.

If Woodson ends up with Rice, Carlyle, Essegian, Tucker, Malone, and Ballo in the spring, I saw we let him have a few days to golf. -

Not getting the thinking that Humrichous would be coming to IU. What's the upside for him to do so? He's already wanting to have NBA scouts look at him, why would he come to Indiana and get less minutes? -

Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo, and Tucker are players currently who are 3/4/5's. We know we are adding another 4/5 type player. Running occasional three guard lineups. Truth is that Galloway and Essegian can both play as a 3. Essegian was a decent rebounder at the 2 for Wisky. -

R.J. Davis is a pipe dream obviously, but in terms of some guys not playing as much as they want......that is every school everywhere and was so before the portal. -

We did. But at the minimum it does seem like that the staff is looking at bringing in shooters -- I don't know why you would bring in Essegian for a visit if you weren't because that is pretty much what he did well when he was on his game. My guy says that Rice and Carlyle decided they wanted to play together and sold themselves as such. And if the option is both of them neither, put me down as a resounding yes to both of them. Let's say that they both shoot 35% from three next year -- pretty realistic expectation for the jump from freshman to sophomore year (for an IU comparison, C.J. Gunn and Tamar Bates certainly had holes in their game and neither shot the ball well as all as freshman, but they were at 34 and 37% as sophomores). Rice and Carlyle as 35% shooters from deep are a couple of pretty effective three level scorers. -

Gonna have to say if I look back at your post history, you weren’t calling X a good player. And you are trying to compare first season Myles Rice after two years of cancer to sixth year Xavier Johnson. Would you really go on record saying that you’ wouldn’t rather have second year Myles rice over ANY year if X?
