They were critical to our success last year. The problem was that there were other guys that were more critical to our failure. Goode is a pretty high volume three point shooter who can hit 40%. He is most definitely a good thing to have. In 23-24 he was a 20 minute per game player on a team that won the BTT and went 29-9. Not sure how we would 'be in trouble' if he played a part in the success next year.

One thing to keep in mind with Goode and Leal's waivers: Goode played in two games that were beyond the regular season (one BTT and one NCAA tournament game). Leal played in one NCAA tournament game. So in terms of regular season games, Goode played in 8 and Leal played in 9. One of Leal's regular season games was in the Hoosier Tip-Off Classic, so it's possible that only 8 of his games counted if IU used the in season tournament exemption. In both cases I'll still state that their coaches should have kept them out of action during the second half of the season to preserve their year of eligibility and this would all have been moot. ------------ While I'm in the camp of preferring Goode and a big as opposed to Goode and Leal should they get waivers approved, at this point the pickings left on bigs are really slim.

Personally, I don't know what takes the NCAA so long to rule on these cases. It's not like there is any secret evidence that we don't know about.

IF Goode and Leal bother return and you add the per game numbers for each player on the roster (excluding Sisley since he'll be a freshman): 44% of the team's shots would have been three pointers. As a group, they shot 50% from inside the arc and 38% on threes and 45% overall. Effective shooting percentage was 53%. Free throw percentage of 75%. By means of comparison, last year's IU team: 33% of the team's shots were three pointers; 53% inside the arc, 32% on threes and 46% overall. Effective shooting percentage was 50%. Free throw percentage was 71%.

Torvik projection: without Harris on the roster (a glitch in the program, have him removed from the transfer portal but not on IU's roster), IU's roster is currently ranked 38th. Add Goode and Leal (but not Harris since the system won't put him in), and IU climbs to 24th. Simply put, the roster rankings from 20-40 are really close.

Josh Harris to Indiana from North Florida

This IMO is the most underrated pickup. Three years eligibility, + rebounder and at the rim scorer.

Exactly how many guys aren't playing for a bag in the NCAA? I'm not going to blame Leal for that. I can prefer getting another big to Leal being back without bashing Leal.

FWIW, Wayne -- I know that you have valued Torvik ratings in so much that it's a metric out there. IU is currently ranked 36th on Torvik....Alabama is right there at 35. And Torvik hasn't added in Josh Harris yet (he doesn't show up in their unsigned portal players but also doesn't show up on IU's roster). Torvik really likes Harris as well -- his offensive rating last year was 117, which would put him tied with Wilkerson's projection for next year -- even if you lower it to what Harris's offensive rating was last year for games just against top 100 competition, his rating would be 112. So by one man's rating -- which you yourself have said is one that should at least be looked at -- Torvik would rate IU higher than an Alabama program you are wanting us to compare to.

Are you really hanging your hat on Baba Miller putting up 7.6 points and 4.9 rebounds on a Florida State team over someone who put up 18 points/6 rebounds at a mid majors? Hell, why even recruit ANYONE from a mid/low major then. To hell with Dalton Knecht, just get Anthony Walker's.

Rankings are taken in mind of how many players you brought in. Just because you brought in a lot of players doesn't make your ranking higher. Purdue brought in one player and is rated highly.

On3 also accounts for players that are leaving and IU, so more of a "net" effect.

Truth is that Woodson should have shut him down in January. He played 8 total minutes in the second half of the season.

IF Goode were granted eligibility, then Leal's case would be solid as well. Each has four years that have counted since 20-21 didn't and both played a season that would have put them under the number of games that counted BUT they played games in the second half of the season. That said, I'm not sure adding both makes IU a better team. Dorn and Goode are similar (although I think Goode is better). Right now, Bailey/Alexis/Harris/DeVries are the only players we have that can play at the 4 or 5. Still would prefer to get one more big even if it's a backup or a reach.

20-21 doesn't count. In 22-23 he was limited to 11 games (24 minutes). His case is basically the same as Goode's as the NCAA has already ruled that 20-21 doesn't count. That said, I don't think either would win eligibility.

Sinceire Harris is a player who played as a freshman at Illinois and wasn't good enough to play as a sophomore so they redshirted him. To think that DeVries' defensive system didn't have anything to do with Harris' success is false.

Top 25 programs right now are built on names that voters know and not necessarily on actual roster talent. Production over potential seemed to be motto of a successful football coach last year.

Three years of eligibility for Harris. Even if he isn't a major player from the get go, looks like there would be room for him to grow into the spot.
