A case in study will be what St. John’s does next year. Not from a 63 year old NBA perspective, but from the perspective of basically driving everyone out sans Joel Soriano and then completely rebuilding with the portal and NIL money.

Portal thread seems to be half 'we are going to suck next year' to half 'everything is fine'. I look forward to watching it play out instead of taking a side 8 months prior. Truth is we could sign a stud or two and still suck or pretty go with what we have and do surprisingly well. Personally, I'm not going to give up on a season in April nor am I going to determine they will be a success. At my age, I spend November through March watching things develop for good or bad.

Indiana Players Now In The Portal
RaceToTheTop replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Any news on Jordan Geronimo's suitors? Seems to have been awfully quiet. -
Yep. I use it more of a gauge as to what the staff is looking at doing. Recruits also like to give out the laundry list of teams that have touched base even if they eliminated most of them in their minds.

Latrell Wrightsell to Alabama. Backcourt getting crowded there.
-
But Georgia State just entered the picture.

After Blackmon’s injury, the bulk of the games had a starting lineup of: Ferrell, Johnson, Harttman, Williams, Bryant But at the beginning of the year, Hartmann wasn’t starting and Blackmon was. So at that point Blackmon and johnson were the 2 and 3. After Blackmon’s injury, Johnson started at the 2. Johnson missed 5 games and didn’t start 8 others. Biefeldt started 5 of those games and zeisloft 8. you’re correct that we did go with three guards before Blackmon’s injury. It was more sporadic after his injury. The primary beneficiaries of Blackmon’s time were actually OG and Juwan.

White is really high ceiling player. 50th ranked incoming recruit by 247 last season. All freshman Pac 12 last year. Averaged 9 and 5. 6'7" SF/SG. More of a slasher than shooter but 247 considered him to be a 'keep you honest' three point shooter out of high school.

At Louisville, those girls called the players their John's. But they definitely weren't saints.

Collins’ father and grandfather both passed away in the last seven months. He is looking to transferring to being closed to home as he has had a very mentally tough period (he’s from Texas).
-
Jordan Gainey. Leading scorer at South Carolina Upstate transferred to Tennessee. His father is an assistant at Tennessee. He just transferred into a very crowded backcourt. Graham Ike. Doubt he gets the same touches at Gonzaga as he would have at Wyoming. EDIT:missed at obvious one — Payton Sparks.

Gunn is a 2/3. Banks is a 3/4.

The list of teams that had contacted him that I saw didn't really include any that he would have too much of an expanded role. Teams like Cincinnati, Xavier, West Virginia, IU. Can't remember the full list.
-
As an FYI, this was posted a few days ago. IU among several others have contacted Frederick. Some hypothesizing that he will go to Cincinnati (that's his hometown). In an interview he said he was looking to go somewhere that he would have an expanded role.

I'm not sure why you are trying to start a debate on a topic that isn't there. You asked if it was 'cheating' and the question was answered.
-
Direct contact with someone who has entered the NBA draft would be still be against the rules. But you and I are both not naive to think that there isn't indirect contact made between even the most 'holy' of schools and players.
-
1. It was a hypothetical and 2. There exists tons of 'legal' ways (maybe unethical, but what is ethical in recruiting) to gauge interest. I think we've already done the 'Ya complaining about cheating' to death anyway.

We are going to find out next year how much of a defensive detriment Kopp was. Not saying I know how much it was, but being 6’7” doesn’t mean you play like a 6’7” defender.
-
IU lists him at 6'7".

Thanks for the link. Don't know anything about Davis' future, only wish to comment on the "Best of Arkansas" as its the second article I've read on them in the past couple of weeks. The first one was (titled has changed now since Ware committed to IU, although the content is the same) "Accusations of Laziness Dogging Indiana Commit Kel'el Ware Deserve Deeper Look". IMO, two-thirds of the article was a pretty bad hatchet job of a player and then ended with a note that he would benefit from coming to Arkansas. It's a hard site to figure out, whether they are a mouthpiece of the University given information they are fed or are offering up theories. It almost seems like they want to paint both sides so that the program looks good regardless.

A lot of changes,, both in and out Out: Caleb Love (13th ranked in the portal by 247) Puff Johnson (103) Dontrez Styles (142) Tyler Nickel (145) Justin McCoy (174) Will Shaver (199) In: Harrison Ingram (20) Cormac Ryan (72) Jae'Lyn Withers (106) Paxson Wojcik (119) I think the exchanges are a net positive. They are still in on Kendrick, I believe, so that could determine a lot.

Harrison Ingram commits to North Carolina. Very highly rated small forward out of high school (#19 in the class of 2021) who never seemed to reach his potential at Stanford. Last year averaged 10.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 3.7 apg. Over two seasons, shot 40/32/63. Out of high school 247 described him as an elite IQ player with okay physical skills.
-
FWIW, I mentioned that both had visited Alabama recently. Alabama has three spots open but the real position of need was at point guard, which both Wrightsell and Perry can play. Aaron Eastraa of Hofstra (20.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.3 apg) just committed and I would think he steps in at the point guard position so it probably is less likely that Wrightsell or Perry end up there.

A board moderator asked yesterday for this to be moved along. No matter how many times you mention my name in a post, this will be my last reply on the subject.

247 seems to run behind on transfer portal updates. Verbalcommits and On3 seem to be more up to date.
