That wasn't really my point. I was just saying if they are still contacting players that they haven't reached the conclusion that they aren't going to stop looking at the portal this year. Nothing more, nothing less. In terms of being concerned/not concerned/ambivalent, everyone is obviously free to be whatever they feel they want to be.

I’m not sure what you are asking. All I am saying is that coming into college that I believe Phillips’ goal was to play one season at UT and then turn pro — he’s currently going into the NBA draft but keeping eligibility open and from what the mocks are saying he likely is not going to hear encouraging feedback. if you are asking how UT’s scholarship numbers and how it would work out if Phillips and more decide not to stay in the draft, that could be an issue that UT has decided to deal with later ic it occurs. I don’t know. My question about Phillips was whether the posted thought phillips would stay in the draft or perhaps enter the portal.

We do know that since Chris’ post IU has contacted CJ Frederick, so I don’t think that the staff has decided to stop with the portal.

Phillips gone as in in going to the draft or gone as in transfer? Because I’ve seen him projected to be very late second round. I think he wanted to be a one and done but his freshman year didn’t go as well as he hoped.

Couple questions on guys we know won’t be at IU next year: Anyone know where Jordan Geronimo has been receiving interest from? Just curious to see where he ends up. another guy I wonder about is Jamarion Sharp. Thought he would have landed somewhere by now.

Does not appear to be a fit for IU, but Isaac Jones of Idaho enters the portal. 6’9”, 240. Averaged 19.4 points and 7.8 rebounds. Shot 63%. Not a big threat from 3 but did make 6 of 19.

Knecht. I have yet to hear any account that the staff was out on him and every person I consider reliable stating that IU was still pursuing him and was trying to get him to visit. As I’ve said, staffs are going to miss on more recruits than they succeed on. I just think it’s okay accept that we missed on him.

Kentucky has had one bad season -- the covid season. 22, 26, 25, 30, 26, and 32 win seasons in the other six season not including that year. I'd KILL for IU to have 'not been that good' in that time span.

They do. They do in football as well. Thus far their money still hasn’t equated to great success in either — but pretty good.

It’s all about the product on the floor. Whatever recruiting strategy produces wins the fan base will accept. I’m not as down on the results as a lot of posters. I am expecting we will get a wing or shooting guard in the portal and do have more more hope than a lot of people on the board for next season, but most (not all, but most) are carrying pitchforks. *. Part of the reason the portal is so big. Obviously NIL plays a huge part, but that’s not the only reason. Honestly, I’m find the ability to do a one time free transfer. Non-athletes transfer after a year or two all the time when they find the place they are isn’t where they want to be.

So your narrative is that the coaches felt they could get a top tenish portal transfer at a position of need and decided to move on from him? I have to say your ‘defending’ of the staff is actually a pretty good put down. The staff wanted him and didn’t get him. It happens. It’s not about the fall, it’s how they respond now.

Personally, I’ve not been in on the total ‘swing for the fences’ with every recruit approach. That’s typically a losing proposition. If you get one home run and then players that have a flaw but you find a way to minimize that, you will have good results. Kansas State got good grades for what they did in the portal but the truth is they brought in guys that were considered to have flaws and they minimized them. No one thought at the beginning of the year they would do what they did. Musselman does well in the portal but his success is more about putting his players in a position to win. Justin Smith? Very flawed. But Musselnsn put in a position to maximize his strengths and minimize his flaws. Time to find those type of players snd put them in a position to succeed.
