If that is the case, why wouldn't he just put 'Devries to remain at West Virginia'? I think he is just stating what he knows: DeVries not going to Iowa. -

Breakthrough S16 or higher appearances don't always translate well. I.e., Archie Miller. -

Part of me wants IU to announce their coach during the UNC game just to stick it to them. -

Huh? His son didn't play a game during the Big 12 season and they beat the #2 and #7 teams. -

TJD's game improved in his time when Woodson was there. Just because a guy is a poor coach doesn't mean he didn't make a connection with a particular player. -

Probably shot too well and Woodson didn't see a position for a guard who could shoot. -

+1. McCollum is riskier but the potential for big things. I don't know why anyone would turn their nose up at DeVries. Forget the fact that they didn't actually make the tournament this year -- he killed it at Drake and by every right his team should have been in the tournament this year despite not having their best player after their eighth game. For the conference season his second leading scorers was a kid who wasn't in the rotation at Illinois last year, followed by a freshman who was unranked and a guy who was just a so-so player at UIC the year before. That was not a talented P5 team and they went 10-10 in the Big 12. FWIW, the freshman who was unranked ended up being their third leading scorer in conference play -- 6'6" guard Jonathan Powell who lives in Dayton -- averaged 8.6 ppg, bulk three point shooter who shot 35% from three -- stated his intention to enter the portal today. -

I'll give a more in depth break down later, but I've been crunching some numbers on McCollum's D2 teams and comparing them his year at Drake. A couple of early notes: The number of shots both teams put up in Drake's games was 97 per game. The number of shots put up by NW Missouri State and their opponents per game in McCollum's last five years there was 102 and was never as low as 97. It's still a slow pace, but the Drake pace this year was lower than any year McCollum had in D2. D1 average is around 118 shots/game. The efficiency at NW Missouri State was incredible -- both in overall field goal percentage, three point field goal percentage, and free throws percentage. They also got to the line quite a bit. Average points scored for NW Missouri in the five years was in the upper 70's while they gave up about 60 per game. At Drake this year they averaged 70.1 and gave up 58.4. If McCollum kills it at a P5 school with quality athletes, expect the pace and style of play to be similar to Houston's. -

Drake plays a very slow pace of play -- as someone mentioned, 347th in pace. In points per game, though, they were 277. Given a 347th pace, that is very, very good. Know what's even better? They were first in points/game on defense. -
