    NCAA MBB Coaching Carousel

You seem to be enamored with coaches who are in desperate need of surrounding themselves with guys that are more knowledgeable in coaching at the college level. Not saying that guys shouldn’t get as qualified assistants that they can but when it is a necessity, it’s not a good hire.

    Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Regardless of what is said on a message board, the upcoming season is going to play out before a decision is made. I'm not sure why you would be upset with someone posting on a message board their opinion of it when they don't have the power to make that decision. In terms of the president comment, whoever is elected is going to serve their term not in their mid seventies but rather in their one who is in their upper 70s who would serve the majority of his term in his 80s and the other who would serve his term fully in his 80s. In terms of ageism, is it ageism to feel that we have candidates that are too old to effectively satisfy the conditions of office? (I am trying to keep this as apolitical as possible -- I am specifically talking about the fact that the choices for president are candidates who would be 78 and 82 by the time they started the next term and the concern of their aging in the next four years).

    Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Pretty damn hard to prove that age is the reason for firing a coach if they coached for four years at a school after replacing someone who also coached four years. Coaches get fired all the time, regardless of age. Pretty much every college coach gets fired from their first job or climbs to up to a better job until they reach a point where they will get fired. Bottom line is that while you can't fire based solely on age, you can do so if someone's age results in lack of on the job performance. Yuo don't have to say age is why someone is fired if they aren't as active on the recruiting trail as younger coaches -- the lack of activity is a cited reason. And I'm not saying anything about the state of Woodson's future, just that while you can't use age as a basis for firing someone, you also can't hide behind it as an excuse not to fire them.

I brought up Brown-Ferguson when he hit the portal. Anyway, he signed with Texas A&M back in early April. Aire would be a no from me. He's been a washout at two schools now -- Miami and Penn State. Rather take a flyer elsewhere or just get a big that has one season level and a low ceiling but is steady.

I doubt we are going to get a guy that would be coming in expecting to actually see the court unless outside of an injury. I threw the name Zach Loveday out as someone who I thought was a realistic option — not because he’s good but because he fits the bill of the kind of player who would be an emergency big who seems to be a good locker room guy. Did a little research on him and he’s a business major as well.

I don’t get it. If nothing else, get a 6’10” big body to hold down the bench as an emergency option if Ballou gets hurt

Baba Miller (Florida State), commits to Florida Atlantic. 6'11" stretch four, averaged 7.6 points and 4.9 rebounds at Florida State last year, starting all but one game. Ranked 49th in the class of 2022 but has had struggled from three, making only 28% through two seasons. Two years of eligibility left.

On3 tracking of transfers: 2022 transfers: 866 entered the portal; 660 transferred, 11 withdrew. That leaves 189 that did not find a new place to play (22%) 2023 transfers: 1,115 entered, 536 transferred, 10 withdrew. That leaves 569 that did not find a new place to play (51%) 2024 transfers: 1,089 entered, 789 transferred, 10 withdrew. That leaves 290 that haven't found a new place to play (yet) (27%) My guess is 2024 will become the norm -- lots of transfers with most finding new homes. 2023 there were still a lot of players with their extra covid year left so fewer spots to fill.

I don't think they sued the proper entity. The NCAA didn't cancel their 20-21 season. While they couldn't have gotten their season back, they could have attempted to sue the Ivy League for canceling the season. That said......if they can't beat the NCAA in court, NO WAY are they going to beat the Ivy League.

Isaiah Miranda (7’1” center, Oklahoma state), transfers to Green Bay. Was the 45th ranked recruit in 2022; freshman year at NC State where he did not appear in a game, sophomore year at Oklahoma State where he played only 8 minutes before leaving the team in January. Has said to be dealing with not only injuries but personal issues as well. JT Toppin (New Mexico), one of the best remaining bigs, commits to Texas tech

All depends on what you define as what is 'good' for the sport. Conferences are making record money on television deals. Viewership is up. Players are making more money than they ever thought was possible at the college level. Fans have the capability of viewing more NCAA games on television than ever before. Hard core fans certainly don't like what has happened, but it certainly hasn't stopped many from leaving. I haven't. A lot of the 'it'll destroy the sport' conversations happened when professional sports started having free agency. And here we are 50 years after baseball started free agency and the game is still around.

Chaz Lanier (North Florida, 6'4" guard, 19.8 ppg) chooses Tennessee over Kentucky. In the Big Ten, PJ Hayes (San Diego, 6'3" guard, 10.5 ppg, 3.1 reb, shot 43/40/79, bulk three point shooter) transfers to Rutgers. Xavier Foster, once a promising recruit (103rd in the class of 2020, 7') played a year at Iowa State and two years at SMU, scoring a grand total of 32 points in 21 games in his three years) transfers to Radford.

I've watched the tournament go from 32 to 64 to 68. I've watched the advent of conference tournaments change what teams received automatic bids. Watched the three point line enter the game, watched the introduction of the shot clock as well as a change in the length of the shot clock. Have to say that it hasn't stopped me from watching. In terms of watching a first round game of 'Kansas v Georgia Tech'.....not sure what you are getting at. You think that would be a worse game to watch than, say, North Carolina v. a Fairfield team with a losing record?

If the NCAA had been reasonable about athletes prior, it probably wouldn’t have gotten to this. Pose for a charitable calendar? Suspension. School provides transportation so you can attend a family member’s funeral? Suspension. Commit to a school and your coach leaves after a year? Sorry, you have to sit out a full year if you want to transfer. leave it up to the courts instead of making common sense rules, then you have to live with their ruling. i think the NCAA is to blame for this situation.

Only thing we've heard is that they aren't against using it if someone fits but other than that, haven't heard any names. IMO, need to use it if for nothing else insurance at the post or a flyer on a young player.

Decent late portal pick up for North Carolina: Vanderilt PF/C Ven-Allen Lubin. Two years of eligibilty left; 6'8", averaged 12.3 pts and 6.3 reb. Started in all 26 games he played in, shot 50/33 (on 13 of 39)/73. Freshman year played at Notre Dame, averaged 6.2 points in 17 mpg. 109th ranked recruit in class of 2022.
