For the life of me, I can't get the Bronny love. I get the pedigree, understand the medical issue he had at the beginning of the season but don't understand using that to explain all his struggles at USC when it seems to me like a guy in that situation would have had trouble at the beginning of the season but the fact is he started the year fine and then went downhill fast. His first six games: 16 of 32 from the field (50%), 6 of 19 from three (32%), averaged 7.5 points per game in 17 minutes per game. The remainder of the season: 25 of 80 (31%), 10 of 41 from three (24%), 4.0 points per game 20 minutes per game in a span of 19 games. -
Maybe I'm misremembering, but weren't you a "yes" on Amari Williams? Can't see being a yes on Williams and a no on Gayle for this team.
-
Wow. Had an off shooting year from deep last year and is a medium volume three point shooter, but he has a nice upside. Good rebounder for his size. Top 50 out of high school. This is probably a product of Bruce Thornton staying and Meechie Johnson transferring back to Ohio State. At best Johnson is a slight upgrade from Gayle (and I'm not even convinced Johnson is an upgrade at all)

Yeah, but he played for Tony Bennett where player's offensive games go to do. Not saying he would have necessarily fared better at IU, but he played a heck of a lot better as a sophomore at IU under Archie Miller than he did as a junior at Virginia. -

I'm not. Also don't think he'll get 700K from anyone. If he was worth even half that, in either of the last two seasons, he should have transferred from Drexel previously. What's the ceiling for a guy who is 6'10" and never scored over 20 points in a game his senior year? Ke'lel Ware was a two way player at the power 5 level. Amari Williams is just a decent scoring big man in a low major conference. $700K is a lot for what would amount to be a role playing starter at best. Can't see him and Reneau on the floor together much at all -- Ware at least had a little mid range and outside game. -

I can't tell you first hand, but this was what 247 saw him as coming out of his school: Carlyle is a dynamic ball in hand player with terrific length for his size who can create scoring opportunities for himself on demand. He is simply wired to score from all three levels and never has seen a shot he does not like. His handle is as good and tight as anyone in the class and he can get by a defender with his speed and quickness. While he is primarily a scorer, he is terrific at making attacking plays off the dribble with his excellent handle and when the bucket opportunity does not present itself, he is more than willing to make the right find. What is better than his ability to score is his mindset. His mentality is elite as he is a tough and fierce competitor who is always in full attack mode. His constant aggression is what makes him positively productive. Defensively, he has the length and the foot speed to be elite and devastating on that side of the floor. A terrific two-way guard, Carlyle most certainly projects a reliable scorer who plays through most injuries and goes to war like each game is his last. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And this is what that saw him as after this past season at Stanford: Kanaan Carlyle entered the transfer portal following his freshman season at Stanford. The scoring guard missed the first month of the season for what was reported as academic reasons, but made an immediate impact when debuting in December, including a 28-point outburst against Arizona in his fourth game. He finished the year having started 16 of 23 games and averaging 25.6 minutes, 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. Carlyle was unable to sustain the same shooting prowess from behind the three-point line that he showed in December, and ultimately saw his percentage dip down to 32% from that range. He was, however, an increasingly versatile scoring threat, if not always an efficient one, as he attempted 33% of his shots at the rim and 42% in the mid-range area per Pivot Analysis. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In terms of his early season academic issues at Stanford, what I can tell you is that during recruiting he made it clear that he was really looking for an academic challenge. I think he had a rude awakening after playing for his senior season at Overtime Elite Academy.....which has their players spend no more than 4 hours per time in instruction, all online. -

So based on that analysis....Myles Rice would project to be a 35% three point shooter next year and Carlyle would be better than that (he was at 32% as a freshman, so probably extrapolates to 37-38%). Myles Rice is a solid player right now. Myles Rice shooting 35% from three is a REALLY good player. Carlyle shooting 37-38% from three makes him a more than solid player as well. I mean, we could look for someone who all that they can do is shoot the ball, but I'd rather have a high volume 35 or 37% three point shooter who helps out in more ways. There are players out there like IU picked up in Evan Fitzner mold who shoot 41% from three for threes but can't do anything else. Fitzner washed out at IU, and even if he had shot 41% he simply didn't add anything else. -

Can think of it that way, or can think of it as if he chooses to move close to home, there is no competition. -

Just to show the comparison: Mgbako: 27 mpg, 39.5% fg, 32.7% 3 pt, 82.1 ft, 4.1 reb, 1.3 ast, 12.2 pts Carlyle: 25.6 mpg, 38.6% fg, 32.0 3 pt%, 77.6 ft, 2.7 reb, 2.7 ast, 11.5 pts -

Disagree. His shooting numbers were basically Mgbako's shooting numbers last year, both as freshman in power 5 conferences. Top 60 recruit from last season. Can play the 1 or 2. Had 28 points in an 18 point win over Arizona and 31 points in a loss to Washington State. If it was a junior/senior putting up those numbers I'd be concerned, but I think jumps from freshman to sophomores are to be expected. -

In the scrimmage last weekend, Fland did have 5 assists. Jackson always looked to shoot in that game, but he was hitting everything and had 22 points. -

NOT a glaring endorsement by Andy Enfeld on his new job at SMU. Asked if he would be coaching at SMU if they weren’t moving to the ACC, he said “no”. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39862779/andy-enfield-says-smu-coach-not-acc -

The Evansville kid makes sense. Watched some video of him. Some similarities to MM in where he scores and the way he moves. I know some thought that MM looked too 'mechanical', but the truth is that was probably because people were expecting a McD's boy to move differently. Some of the best players are very deliberate movers. Players that are smart, deliberate movers are some of the hardest players to start because they have the vision to see where the play is and one they see it they commit to it. MM was getting better at that part of the game toward the end of the year -- at the beginning of the year he struggled there and got blocked a few times. I am expecting next year you are going to see MM see the floor even better and those 'mechanical' moves are going to be adding in some euro steps, jump stops, etc. Humrichous has the same type of movement but is a really experienced player and sees the floor very well. Shoots the ball very, very well. He can play alongside Reneau and MM as he isn't going to clog the lane. Can't get stuck on the fact that he played NAIA ball before up transferring to Evansville last year. Watch him on video -- the shot is pure and it's not just catch and shoot shots or ones that are in rhythm or wide open. -

Considering we've tried offenses with a true power forward + an elite rim protector at center and haven't fared as well as we would have liked (personally, I do count TJD's senior year as decent -- 4th place Big Ten finish, sweep of Purdue, 12-8 in conference, tournament win, only non conference losses were to top ten teams, but think there was a big step back this past year), maybe we shouldn't be looking for an elite rim protector but rather something for a different look. -

This is the thing: I posted about him deleting posts to remove references to Danny Wolf coming to IU. The point of me doing that had nothing to do with Wolf and everything to do showing that he is still lurking on this board. Looks like he took the bait. Also looks like he also is responding to the poster here (don't recall who) who had innocently asked if Ya had indeed coached Rice. -

Honestly, I don't care who starts or who comes off the bench if we have talent the minutes are proportional to the talent we are playing against. IMO, the wild card is Galloway for a two reasons: 1. He can play the 1, 2, or 3 if needed. Doesn't really matter if he starts or comes off the bench, being able to play multiple spots gets you on court a lot. 2. If he regains his shooting touch from his junior year, that is a big step up.
