What's interesting is that it had been two weeks since Perkins had visited Missouri and I don't believe he had taken any visits. But some of the schools on his cut list have signed point guard commits -- IU signed Rice, UCLA signed Skyy Clark. Wonder if he was looking for more interest from schools that decided to go a different way. If not, two weeks after one visit followed by no other ones would seem strange.

Of all the guards we are looking at, he was the last to go into the portal. If you are getting solid talent that are leaning your way, I'm not sure you should back off of them to commit more time on someone you are starting more from scratch with. There's not a need to risk multiple commits because you chose to focus on the bird in the bush.

Rice visited at the same time as Payne so him following isn't a big surprise. Not seeing others follow Payne is probably telling.

I would say that is exactly why they would they would have so much NIL money. It is a cash cow for some pretty wealthy investors and having a nice NIL fund and good basketball team is cheap advertising. Don't think of alumni or donors so much with them but rather investors.

Their incoming freshman are currently on their new NIL tours. Bradshaw is thought to be a North Carolina lean which in part IMO is Ballo being thought of being an IU lean. The 7'2" Crotation big man from Kentucky is intriguing but he is going to be meeting with Mark Pope before decided if he wants to go back to Kentucky or stay in the portal.

Hickman might have some self awareness -- he's a good college player but not an NBA player. Some guys chase the dream being G league fodder for years on a $40K to $50K salary not realizing that being a good college player isn't always relevant to what the NBA wants. Others chase their dreams overseas for years. The draw for a kid like Hickman of playing in his hometown, getting paid really nicely to do so, and knowing that a backcourt foursome of Rice-Carlyle-Galloway-Hickman is a really solid college backcourt and should lead to wins could be very appealing. I don't begrudge players getting paid even if they play less minutes.

I believe that Trilly Donovan might have been the one that mentioned it, but the downside is that if the money donated doesn't pan out to winning on the court, some donors are now asking for input into the recruiting process.

Your thoughts on what that would do with Carlyle? That is, is the trio of Rice/Hickman/Carlyle coming in a possibliity? I know that many on here really want Conwell (i do as well) but I don't think realistically from Conwell's viewpoint that it makes sense to come into a situation that already has two guards coming in plus another who led the time in minutes the previous year.

Quite likely that in the future the mid major or low major that 'comes out of nowhere' and starts to become a potential power will be one with the most big money donors. I think Grand Canyon fits that bill. They could be become the next Gonzaga.

The NIT championship had its highest viewership in 14 years. Seton Hall isn't a big college bball name and Indiana State is nonexistent. People love stories, though. If a nowhere team was all of us a sudden putting up Alabama type of results, the viewership would come in short notice.

Yeah, I don't get it. People didn't want IU to build with one year players through the portal but we so far they've signed Tucker and Rice and seem to have Carlyle well in hand. Some wanted players from Indiana, we've reached out to several players and have visits from or are trying to get visits from those players. Seems like it always goes back to 'they have to show they can win during the sesaon'. Well, regardless of why they get that's true. But it's sure a lot easier to do that by getting talent in.

Everybody assumes they are realistic. It's kind of meaningless to say that. Posting about who IU gets in the portal and saying they would be on the bench 'back in the day' is 100% MO because it literally has nothing to do with the current team and current college game.
