Transfer Portal w IU Interest
RaceToTheTop replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Personally, I’m about that long from moving on to the next big man. I want Ballo but you don’t want to get caught holding the bag while you wait around. Sounds like we’ve given him the best pitch and $ we can give. Hope he commits, but if he doesn’t look at the other guys we had/have coming in. -

Tyson’s recruitment from everybody has been very quiet. Pretty air tight in terms of leaks everywhere. Initial thought was he would immediately commit to North Carolina if offered but would have to think by now he already has been and hasn’t committed. -
President Whitten - 2024 Faculty No Vote
RaceToTheTop replied to HoosierHoopster's topic in Off Topic Forum
Oh, I agree there can be some overlap. But if you look at the details of the arrangement I think you can see why the BOT withheld the information: former president McRobbie was paid I’ve $588,000 for six months of ‘consulting’ to President whidden. if you search public governmental salaries, President whidden’s salary is $829K. That means McRobbie was getting paid more during his six months as a ‘consultant’ than whidden was getting paid as active president. My gut says McRobbie was definitely not doing much of any real consulting — it was a golden parachute which likely wouldn’t have been legal to do as a governmental institution which is why they classified it as ‘consulting’. My opinion is that the BOT tried to withhold this information because they knew of the ramifications — in the end it breeds distrust of the faculty toward the new president from the get go. -

Looks like he has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona in nutrition and human performance. I’m guessing he’s a personal trainer. -

IMO, if he hasn’t committed before Williams come to down, you have to give him an ultimatum to accept or not. Might cause you to lose him but no need to lose him and then another big because you were waiting on an answer. Portal recruiting is just different than high school recruiting. Anyway, hoping to see an announcement video tomorrow. -

Was hoping for me than ‘think we’re still good’ LOL. Just yanking your chain. Worth mentioning that the UNC visit isn’t until at least April 22 — he has Louisville and Kansas State up next and UNC and Florida were listed as ‘the week of April 22’. Just my opinion if Ballo hasn’t committed prior to Amari Williams’ visit then you go all in on Williams. Things become a crap shoot the longer it gets IMO. Want Ballo but don’t want to wait on him and miss out on others. Hopefully it’s moot and he commits before he leaves. in terms of UNC, they still are in line for a couple bigs — believe Omuryi and Wolf are possibilities and Aidoo just joining the portal probably gives them a safe fallback option. -

Simple question then: why did the BOT violate Indiana government open information act? It’s also not like she hadn’t been a college president before — she was in her third year as Kennesaw State’s president for three years prior to coming to Indiana. -

That kind of attitude is exactly why no confidence votes are held — the assumption that you should just accept whatever **** is thrown your way and say thank you. -

Might just being paranoid but could use another Chris bomb for assurance. I know it's been three hours and he has a family and has to eat and all that stuff, but it's portal season, baby. -

Getting a little bit nervous TBH the longer it goes without a Ballo announcement. Really not comfortable if he starts taking other visits. -
I’m sure he did but he was already in the portal and then said he wanted to hear Pope’s pitch.

Now damn it, don’t post Rabjohns tweets in an IU transfer portal when they are about guys that just committed to somewhere else. That’s serious Rick-Rolling. -
https://x.com/TiptonEdits/status/1779994191776416204 Horrible look for Pope because Z had said he was going to sit down with pope before deciding if he would withdraw from the portal and come back to Kentucky — and Z would have fit in Pope’s system.

Okay, had done that just didn’t see it registering anything. Seems strange to post that on instagram since the majority of his followers would be Arizona fans. -

It was a joke. I’m just saying it sounds like IU offered as much $ as they could could but can’t really promise playing time guarantees that aren’t necessarily there. -

Kidnapping still illegal in most states. Can’t keep them against their will. -
Yeah, about to go in the stretch run where guys enter the portal because of other portal guys their school brought in. John Tonje of Missouri just entered the portal after Tony Perkins signed today. They don't play the same position -- Tonje is a shooting guard -- but with Missouri getting a commit from Perkins and from Tennessee Martin wing Jacob Crews, Tonje was probably seeing less line up possibilities for himself. In terms of Tonje, he missed all but 78 minutes last season at Missouri due to a foot injury. His last season was at Colorado State where he averaged 14.6 points and 4.7 rebounds. Good three point shooter and is a volume three point guy.

President Whitten - 2024 Faculty No Vote
RaceToTheTop replied to HoosierHoopster's topic in Off Topic Forum
I think the big thing that is missed is that this is a pretty big Board of Trustees failure...once again. Kathy with a C can't spin out of this factoid from the article and it shows exactly how the 'group consensus' of the board produces crap. ------------------- When an 18-person search committee was charged with selecting IU’s next president in 2020, they narrowed the list to four finalists — none of whom included Whitten. According to Steve Sanders, a Maurer School of Law professor who interviewed people involved with the search, the Board of Trustees rejected all four finalists and chose four new finalists externally, this time including Whitten. --------------------- So in essence, here are the issues REGARDLESS of politics: -- the search committee produces four names and the BOT chose to ignore it completely. If you want to stay in good graces with the people you are working with, you don't simply wholeheartedly ignore their entire work. Horrible, horrible PR and sets whoever they do hire up for an immediate adverse relationship. Better move: keep one or two names from the original list and add your own to a list of finalists. -- the BOT then violated public access law by failing to produce documents in a timely manner that should have been available through the freedom of information act. -- Part of the documents they tried to hide indicate that former president McRobbie was paid over $500,000 for 'consulting' work for Whitten in the first six months of her job.....to those involved in the original search committee, this says to them that the BOT chose to ignore candidates they recommended and chose a candidate who wasn't qualified and needed a half a million dollars worth of training. So to me this says the no confidence vote for Whitten is really a no confidence vote in the procedures that the BOT has adopted. Sure, there are politics at play but it goes beyond disagreement between the president and staff. -

Darlingstone Dubar off the board — committed to Tennessee. IU had contacted earlier. -
Yes, but they did lose guys as well — Gayle and Key.

Tennessee's Jonas Aidoo hit the portal this week. He's a Durham native and I would expect UNC will be hitting him hard.
