Good games tonight. Really sucks that both Women's and Men's are on at the same time. Baylor and Ucon is simply awesome given the names, IU is of course of interest because they are ******* Indiana. Then you have OSU vs Sampson's Houston. Then Ark/Baylor. Whoever did the scheduling should be rounded up and flogged. Gonna have a cocktail or 5 tonight.

Yup. Thanks for posting the figure. I said a few times this month, this is absolutely the best year to build a team, or plug holes via transfers. I could see Woodson and Matta doing some good work on transfers. I'm too the point I don't think we'll have a "lost" year at all.

The only person I have departing is Race, who I think just wants to get closer to home perhaps. I wouldn't be surprised though if he was back. We'll see how Woodson's first recruiting challenge goes, but I think he's going to do pretty well keeping the kids here, and keeping them committed. I think there is also something to be said about starting something new for kids.

I'd frame it up as national ranking (# of 5 stars) and tourney status I'd also include all the years, not just the good ones. The stars came later, after the success. Butler 2000 - NR - R32 Xavier 2001 - NR - R32 2002 -NR - R32 2003 - not top 50 - E8 OSU 2004 - #39 (0) - ineligible 2005 - no signees - R32 2006 - #3 (2) - Runner up 2007 - #5 (1) - NIT Champ 2008 - #5 (2) - R64 2009 - no signees - S16 2010 - #3 (2) - S16 2011 - #6 (0) - F4 2012 - not top 50 - E8 2013 - #39 (0) - R64 2014 - #6 (1) - R32 2015 - #5 (0) - NIT 2R 2016 - #42 (0) - NA So 8 elite five star kids in 17 years. And 6 of 8 were from 3 years. Not saying he didn't get talent, but the talent followed the success. And he coached and developed to get to that level of success. I also am not sure he won't help in developing. No reason he can't be at practice. -

This is probably the best year ever to build a team, or plug holes via transfers. -

After reading the presser and listening to DD interview, I'm getting happier and happier. Very closed to being pumped! DD is still a Dbag.... -

Just catching up, but read the transcript of the presser, and really liked what I read. Going to check out the DD vid now. https://www.insidethehall.com/2021/03/29/transcript-mike-woodson-introductory-press-conference/ -

After reading more and sleeping on it, I'm more happy (I was already a little positive). And I love the fact Matta was added to address potential holes. Tip of the hat to Admin for not being cheap. Looking at these areas.... Player development - Get's an "A". Matta never got (IIRC) a ton of 5 stars at Butler, Xavier, or OSU. But he killed development. Woodson's teams improved every year but one. Recruiting - Get's a B. Matta knows every inch of the MW and AAU circuit. Woodson is a passionate guy and his players like him. That's a good combo. Shooting - Gets an A. Matta's teams were lights out. Good FG, FT, and 3pt. Defense - B. Both have good track records here. Xs and Os / scheme - TBD. Depends on how the two guys meld, but knowing what Dolson described, I think there are some assumptions you can make that it will be more modern. Indiana/MW knowledge - A+ -

It's really a great gig for him if he wanted to go back to work. I wonder how much he's getting paid. -

I'm OK with him puppet mastering recruiting from AH. I'd rather the young hotshot assistants do the off campus stuff. With his leg issue, bench coaching would have been a challenge perhaps anyway. I'd be ecstatic if he can just get our guys shooting as good as his past teams. And who better to help with practice management, game planning, etc.. -

I'm not looking for agreement either lol. I do agree IU is not the same for the last 20 years. IMO, we're not a top 10 destination, and probably not a top 20 lol. I think the only sex appeal we have is with kids from IN who still have parents that remember the good ole days. And I think the admin and BOT care a lot less about sports than they should. If I had to guess, the boosters are driving the good things, like buy outs, facility upgrades, etc. I do like Woodson more than most though. If I'm a kid, a guy that's been coaching in the NBA for 20+ years wows me more than mid major guy with a few good years of college experience, or a guy from non-blue blood P5.. And I also think adding the extra layer of Matta fills the college experience holes quite well. And Woodson doesn't look, or come off as, 63 to me either. So right now I'm happy. And the right assistant hires could make me really happy. -

Depaul has finished last in the conf for 5 years straight, and hasn't been to the tourney since 2004. Depaul also was not listed in the top 75 pay (coaches salaries). So, monumental job, low pay, I probably would have stayed in NY too. And he has no ties to Depaul except for prior relationship with the AD. -

I don't see this as similar to the past two decades at all. One thing I love about Matta, is his teams shot very very well (see link/article). If he is a shadow assistant, or just working with Woodson on how to structure practices/drills, etc., then I like our chances to improve significantly in that area. I have to imagine that SD and both these hires had pretty clear conversations about vision, and expectation, and I'm sure the shooting struggles were a big part of the conversation. And if so, I'm sure the conversation was a tap to Matta's shoulder. -

Well Payne was working with Woodson. I'd assume he'd follow the money if it was right. -

DD can be a tool, and he was a tool from the jump about Archie. I'm guessing he'll be on his best behavior though, like he always is when Ballard is on. -

Good lord. Woodson never NEEDED to coach in college. He's had a job since 96. And what does it matter if we hired Matta. In what world is hiring Matta a bad thing?
