IUBB @ Iowa - 01/13/22 @ 9:00 ET on FS1
Southside replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's going about how I expected. My 69-66 score is looking pretty low lol.... Glad our O is doing pretty decent, but our D needs to wake the F up... allowing Iowa to hit 65%... -

called for a 10+ win, check. called for good games from Galloway and Phin. Check and Check. I'm happy. Not perfect, but I'm happy. Keep building. Solid win. -

I think we'll see a lot of 3 G sets from IU. IMO, it's a good matchup for us. TJD, Race, XJ, PS, and Galloway. Probably some decent minutes from Phin too. Wouldn't mind seeing Bates get some minutes too. I think it's a bad game for Kopp to get a lot of minutes. -

I think we win by 10+. MN is solid, not great. I like TJD to have a 20/10 game, if not 30/10. Hoping we don't have a 2020/21 Rutgers type effort (post Iowa win). -
I like that description. Not that he's elite in anything specific, but to me he's active, and creates chaos (in a good way). He's definitely a guy that impacts the flow of things. Not sure I think he's a guy that unlocks an elite level of IU play, but he definitely unlocks several aspects across the team. He's like good grease lol.

While I hate PU as a rivalry, growing up in Indy for 25ish years, and living away from Indy for 25ish years, has softened my hate a bit. I'll always hate them as a rival, but have a ton of friends and family that went to both IU and PU (and ND). When I went to IU, my PU buds would be down to B-Town at least once a month. I rarely went up lol... One of my cousins (a prof) is retiring from PU. My best friend is a PU fan.... That said, still hate them on the court, but I have a respect for them. And I've always liked Painter as a guy. I'll cheer for PU/Painter to beat all but a handful of teams nationally. And my PU buds do the same for IU. I guess that happens when you grow up in IN and get older lol. Looking forward to an IU win over PU so I can finally amp the rivalry back up with the buds and fam. I'm tired of them feeling sorry for me lol. -

Thanks for sharing @Uspshoosier Not going to lie, I don't expect overnight success. 2 things however give me comfort. First, the admin seem to be prioritizing things differently, and going all in, or at least a lot more, in.... But most important, Woody's love for, and connection to, the program. We've been missing that for a long time. It's personal for him. And I'd add a third, which is somewhat tied to #2 (connection). Having the ability to bridge the old IU (BK and general IU History) and the new (NBA) is just a rarity that can only help. Bad culture and losing take time to overcome. Not sure how all this turns out, but I'm optimistic for now. -
In reply to both. You seem to have only one gear. I'm perfectly fine with negativity, but you're posts over the years have been the definition of imbalance. And sorry, but in year one of any coach, you simply need to press pause and give a guy/team a chance to overcome years of bad. And for someone who devotes so much time to negativity, and to flippantly discount/diminish a good performance that you didn't even watch lol, is just a bit head scratching. Was the win over OSU just another Iowa blip like last year, I don't know. But it's an undeniable moment of positivity for the moment. Will it last, IDK. Is it a building block, IDK. But it is a nice moment. And overall, I think you simply need to check your expectations. It's laughable to compare us to KY, who have had 4 straight classes ranked at worst #2 lol... That's just next level intellectual dishonestly. And the bigger thing... you simply can't expect 4+ years of bad to magically disappear and in it's place a B10 champ and NC contender magically appear. IT TAKES TIME. In short, you're a product of a your own expectations. You'll never be happy.

Since the season started, how many positive posts have you made vs negative posts? Asking for a friend.

While I want more than a baby step, I'm more than happy with just a solid step forward. For this year, give me a solid season that shows improvement, a tourney birth, a 1st round win, and something to build on. With that I'll be somewhat content. We've lacked guard play, and I'm pretty happy thus far with Hood-Schifino, Gunn, and Newton. Got to keep getting better, and the recruiting will get better. Overall I like the overall effort and "feel" from the coaching change. Am I satisfied, not at all. Am I optimistic, yes I am. Am I happy beating a top 15 team by 10+.... absolutely.
-
Uh... no... I don't expect issues we've seen for 5 years to be magically fixed in an offseason, so I simply won't go out of my way to find negativity at every turn like you lol.... We're 11-3, top 25 in KP, and just beat a top 15 team by 10+. I'll enjoy that for the moment. I have realistic expectations of this year. So I'll take the good when it comes. Not going to try hard to be a miserable fan all season because I'm not 100% content with where we are currently at.

How about we be a little more honest.... KY's class rating the last 4 years... 2021 #2 2020 #1 2019 #2 2018 #2
-
We've lost 3 total games, all of which were road games, by a total of 10pts (3.3pts per game). One of those games vs Wiscy, where we have a very long history of losing in Madison.... Sure a road win in one of those 3 would have been nice. Sure the collapse in Madison sucked. But not shocked you're looking for reasons not to enjoy a great win lol....

Great win. Woody's best so far. Something to build on, and hope the team remembers the feeling. Top 15 win in convincing fashion. TJD was freaking monster...... TG was berry nice too. Race, and 60% guy, 5-5 on the stripe, and key at times. Great job Woody. Nice to finally get one of these big games. -

Well we were the ones opting out. I personally liked the CC. It sold out every year, and gave all the fans in the state a nice opportunity to converge in one place. IU's "scheduling conflict due to B10 schedule increase" was a bunch of bull IMO. PU has the same challenge. And it wouldn't keep us from a marquee matchup. We could just remove a chump from our schedule if that was the case. Just my opinion, but I think it's a bad move as it removes an opportunity to play in downtown Indy, where many attended, that normally would or could not drive to Btown. -

Welp, if you told me this morning that we'd win by 8, have 4 guys in double digits, and shoot 40% from downtown, I'd be pretty happy. So I'm pretty happy. It's a W. -

Bad start, good end. At least our shooting improved. Let's just carry that over to the 2H. -

13 scholarships, plus thee walk ons. At least I think... lol. We assume TJD is gone. So at a +2. Not really a big deal as I'm sure we'll have that many defections out, if not more. -

Wish our starting guards could both have a good game at the same time... Anyway, today was good mouthwash for the Wiscy loss. A PU loss. A UK loss. And the IU blowout which we expected. Looking forward to ND. They have to be up over their upset. Would love to pound them by 20. -
lol. yup. but who's been the little brother lately lol? Just happy for a big turd from PU... that's always a good thing lol
-
hopefully the PU loss will help some of the folks on the ledge from yesterday lol...
-
lol. Most of the starting rotation is new. Tonight wasn't a "losing mentality moment"... If anything, it was bad PG play, and the PG that was having the most issues wasn't here last year.
