My way-to-early expectations at depth are PG XJ JHS Bates TG/Leal toss up based on what we're hearing about Leal SG Bates JHS TG Leal Gunn 3 Kopp TG/JG toss up Leal 4 RT JG Reneau Banks 5 TJD RT LD
-
Extra JG for me, hold the Kopp. I don't care what you call him. 2, 3, or 4. But yes, improve your handle young man, and cut down on those bad passes. Would love for him to break out, but I'd simply be happy if he could at least be a reliable 3pt specialist.

43% from down town 6/6 FTs Nice. Better than expected. And the sweeeeeeeeeeep..... so nice -
I think the only thing you can glean from the numbers is Frosh year he was more of 2G, likely not going against great comp, and perhaps not respected as frosh. All that said, pretty obvious he had a nice 3pt stroke that season regardless of the environment At MA, was thrust into a 1G or CG role by injury to another player. Also big step up in talent and comp. So MA likely improved his handle and leadership a lot, but took away from stroke focus. Just got to hope it can all come together now.

Personally, I'd like to keep it. And like you mentioned, it's likely our own fault we haven't got the better matchups. If the BE and B10 don't extend, I hope the B10 will look for a similar deal with another conference for 5-8 years like the GGs. I do like the idea of two conferences cycling through each other on a regular basis (like the B10/ACC-C and GGs). I think I'd like to see an SEC/B10 Challenge if we can't get a regular IU/KY rivalry restarted. And I'd like to keep something early too.

I'm early 50s now, and it truly feels icky. But it feels less icky than getting beat by teams with great bag men that rarely got caught. Bag men are just now in the open for the most part. It puts a lot of teams on equal ground, but widens the gap down stream. I still think they need to limit the portal in some way. Perhaps no transfers till after year 2, or a simple 2 year minimum wherever you commit too or transfer too.

Your post made me recall the below. Hoping he doesn't end up at AZ or any of the B10 schools.

Way too early record / B10 / Dance prediction poll and discussion
Southside posted a topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just some early fun while I'm having a glass of red. Way too early record, B10, and tournament projections..... I'll try and do another one once our schedule comes out. Assume 30 regular season games (10 misc + 20 B10) for the sake of simplicity. What we know so far Gavitt Games – TBD (Big East opponent) Big Ten / ACC Challenge – TBD vs. #18 Arizona, Dec. 10, 2022 (Las Vegas, Nev.) — not finalized at #10 Kansas, Dec. 17, 2022 (Lawrence, Kan.) vs. Kennesaw State, Dec. 23, 2022 (Bloomington, Ind.) Big Ten regular season (20 games, TBA) Big Ten Tournament: Chicago, United Center. Current IU ranks IU currently ranks from 7th to 16th depending on the poll IU ranked by several to be #1 in the B10 -

Update Gavitt Games (Big East) – TBD opponent, like to occur mid Nov IIRC, this is the last year for the Gavitt series unless it gets renewed. Could be a big test depending on who we get paired with Creighton - #5, Villanova - #16, UConn - #24, Xavier - just outside the ESPN WTE poll, but ranked in some others. vs. Miami (Ohio), Nov. 20 (TBD) vs. Little Rock, Nov. 23 (Bloomington, Ind.) vs. Jackson State, Nov. 25 (Bloomington, Ind.) Big Ten / ACC Challenge – TBD Potential top 25 matchups UNC - #1, Duke - #9, UVA - #21 vs. #18 Arizona, Dec. 10, 2022 (Las Vegas, Nev.) — not finalized at #10 Kansas, Dec. 17, 2022 (Lawrence, Kan.) vs. Kennesaw State, Dec. 23, 2022 (Bloomington, Ind.) So you say I get a nice filet mignon and dessert. I'll take it lol... sign me up. Could have up to 4 top 25 matchups in the pre-season. Already two blue bloods locked in. Would love to see at least one more. So, so far, likely looking at this timing. Overall, I think Kopp and Bates will start the year. Geronimo will force his way into the line up. HS and Bates will battle all year for G time. Hope Kopp ends up coming off the bench and being more of 3pt guy. Galloway will continue to be an energetic force and impact tweener. -

On glass 4 (big glass) of red lol... Haven't had wine in way too long. Bed soon. I'm getting old. Funny how you start with a normal size glass of wine, but then you rationalize that it's silly to leave just a little in the bottle. -

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
Southside replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You sir, rock! -
Yup. And Woody did more with Archie's guys than Archie ever did lol. I don't think Archie ever had 2 five star kids in one class though.
-
Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer the HC to make the IN Semi and State games if possible, and be all best buds with IN HS coaches.... But I'm much more interested in the final result (the class itself, and product on the floor) than which games a coach does or doesn't attend. We've lost the top kids in the state because our performance has sucked, not because what games we attended or didn't attend. This can be chickened/egged of course, but I'll take the 5 star flip last season, the re-recruitment of TJD, the Dance appearance, beating PU finally, and the two 5 star kids coming in this season... Success will make the in-state kids want to come more than Woody at a game.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
Southside replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thanks for sharing. While it's pretty obvious to most that returning personnel is bigly important, I wonder what the % of minutes were, and how many were starters (to compare to our 4 starters and % of minutes). It would also be interesting to see what their recruit ranks were. -

Yup. It's a business these days, and the business starts early lol.. I was looking at the top 25 (general) for the class of 2023. Over half the kids were at private schools, preps, academies, etc.. Football to an extent is getting that way with IMG and some others. As long as they come prepared to get the grades and stay eligible, I don't have an issue with it. -
Trying to not get overly optimistic for this season, but it's getting harder and harder lol... TJD coming back, buzz about being the favorite in the B10, nice preseason rank.... and per 247, the two best incoming frosh in the B10. Who are all those folks concerned about Woody's ability to recruit.... It's a trip that the top 3 are all from the same HS... https://www.si.com/college/indiana/basketball/top-25-class-of-2022-incoming-basketball-players-in-the-big-ten
