    So now it's a bad idea to discuss ideas because you met opposition to your idea. You went from saying don't recruit 5 star bigs, to backing off that stance to  saying you didn't say it to getting hurt because people disagreed and saying that discussion is a bad idea all in one thread.  Well, maybe it is a bad idea for you then. Defending a bad idea to the death is never a good idea. We all have bad ideas at times. Admit it and move on and everything will be just fine. Getting mad because not everyone gave you high fives for it isn't a good idea.  

    If that is not your intent then why did you ask that question? Why have you defended that argument? It was indeed your intent. 

    Your thread title "Should we stop recruiting five star centers?" indicates that is your intention.

That doesn't mean you give up. If anything you try twice as hard. I don't expect another one right away but it'll happen. You aren't a competitor if you give up because things didn't quite go the way you hoped for.    Right now they have to focus on getting whatever they can get for next year. Thanks Luke's mommy!

    and that's all I was doing. If you don't like my "absolute statement" that's fine. I stick by it. I've tried to tell you that getting lesser talent is part of the equation. Not going after the best talent should never be part of the equation though. It's just my opinion but I don't think that part is negotiable. There's enough coaches and time to go after anyone you have a shot at. You might not bother to give more than a cursory stab at some guy who's getting paid to go puke but you go full bore on the guys you have a shot at. You'd see me first in line on the fire Tom Crean train if he ever failed to do that.  

    Just because a few guys agree with you doesn't mean it isn't flawed. 

    I brought up that Coach is doing what you wish for, sorry that you can't see that. He's also going out and getting the elite bigs. He isn't going to stop doing that. It would probably be advantageous of you to realize that your intentions are good but your concept is a little flawed. It's not personal, it's just the truth. 

So, he got his Luke, but Luke went home to mommy. Coach did his job but who could predict a kid is going to run home after one semester.   Five star bigs just don't fall out of trees. You have to recruit them.     See the last answer.   Remember Luke Fischer? He would have thrived in our system with the guards we have coming in if he hadn't ran home to mommy. The player you want in this thread was here. They don't grow on trees and picking up another in the Spring is a daunting task. Any available are in HIGH demand. Remember Hanner and Peter? Two more bigs who aren't working out. Not every "Luke Hargondy" works out. That's why you go after top talent too whenever you can and you can't get them without recruiting. No 5 Star is ever going to call you up and say "Hey coach even though you've never even so much as given me a call, I want to come play for you instead of all these other coaches who are wining and dining me and telling me I'm the best thing ever!" You don't stop recruiting 5 Stars at any position if you want to play on the big boy stage. Sorry, the concept is flawed.

I think what you guys are missing is you don't say we don't take another 5* big. If you can get them you take those guys every day and three times on Sunday. What you also need is a guy (or  more) like Luke who will develop into a strong role on the team. In this case Luke got homesick and went home crying to mommy. Sometimes poop happens and you have no control over it.  We also have Hanner and Peter who are projects, the kind of guys you're talking about. Neither project has worked out too well so far. Right now we have to hope that Hanner suddenly comes to life next year. He should at least make some progress.  It doesn't look much like Peter will ever be of great value.
