I never understood the no dunking rule in warm ups. I guess just more parts of the game that are out dated.

So we have to count HS too right? And 5th grade girls basketball? If we're going to count AAU. They have 3rd grade boys and girls too. -

it's just the simple fact that isn't a contact sport. But ok. -

that's still not much contact. Football is a contact/collision sport. Not basketball. It is about skill. -

that still doesn't make it a contact sport. By any means. Basketball is a skill sport. -

YES! So badly. The officiating is awful. It shouldn't be so much different from night to night and game to game. -

I think you're mistaking the point of a contact sport. The hand checking and extra pushing etc make basketball a contact sport. When a player plays actual defense they're moving, staying in front of their opponent and sometimes taking contact to the chest. Hand checking is not meant to be in the game. The extra pushing is not. Play people straight up. If you have to grab and push to gain an advantage then that's a foul and the ref needs to call it. -

right now basketball is a contact sport. But it isn't supposed to be. -

Basketball is not a contact sport. Meaning hand checking and done pushing isn't a part of the game. CBB is not basketball. Just a generic rough version of it. Change is NEEDED. -

Yea I've never understood that. Watch the All-Star game and see what it looks like with no defense. NBA players are very good defensively. The refs actually call hand checking. There are amazing athletes at every position. You gotta play defense or you won't have a job. -

You have to look at the leagues above HS. It is the worst. It easily has the worst product on the floor. When you compare it to college ball overseas m, the NBA or Euro League... it's bad. No clue why. I'm sure AAU coaching has a big part in that. I feel like players are coddled for whatever reason. I don't get a 30 second shot clock. The rest of the world plays with 24. I'd like to think that American kids can play with a 24 second shot clock if the kids in Canada and overseas can. But I feel that's more of the NBA and NCAA needing to finally work together instead of against each other. -

There isn't a problem with done physicality. But there is too much. It's ridiculous. And no I'm not a casual fan. I'm just someone that has studied the game and know what it is about. It is about scoring. The game is meant to go up and down. The less possessions there are in a game the lower amount of error you have. Bobby never had a problem with getting up and down the court. I'm he wasn't running any insane offenses. He just let his players play the game. The 76 team averaged like 17 turnovers a game even. They weren't worried about. They were good and scored the basketball. You want to play defense but scoring can be considered a part of defense. How the CBB game is now just isn't how basketball is meant to be played. It is ugly and embarrassing. In the 80's when Bird and Magic were going at it.. do you think they worried about defense? Absolutely not. They couldn't have cared less. And people loved it right? People say basketball was better back then. So what changed? -

It is kind of a process. You have to do it over a few years. And it has to happen in the HS game as well. Kids have to learn how to actually play defense. Especially if they want to be in the NBA. Refs have to call fouls. They should be calling ALL of them. That is their job. A player should never have his hands on another player. A player should never have a forearm in the back of another player. It isn't a contact sport. It is a skill sport built on the concept of putting a ball in a hoop. -

I think they just need to get rid of the charge/block call completely. Don't worry about the arc. Getting rid of it just caters the CBB game too much towards defense. The college game is already the worst basketball product in the world(has nothing to do with money but what is actually happening on the court). And it is a coaches league so I think that's one reason it had taken so long to lower the shot clock. College coaches want 100% control and often over coach. -

Jim Calhoun is a basketball genius. Basketball is meant to put points on the board. You wanna see low scoring games then watch baseball or hockey or soccer. -

Basketball is meant to be played up and down. If I'm and "idiot casual fan" than so is Jim Calhoun. It's all about getting buckets. People have forgotten that. -

The NBA is a much better league. You actually have to play defense in the NBA and not just grab your opponent and hold them back. So yes, more fouls need to be called. Players need to learn how to actually play defense. The physicality of the game is ridiculous and isn't how basketball should be played by any means. -

European players are very fundamental and play with a 24 second shot clock. They have no problem with it in college. I think American players can do it too. -

You'd have to check out the average scores for the NIT compared to the NCAA tourney. I think the NIT's was higher the last time i checked. -

Yes it is a problem. But there are a few things that need to be done. The e0 second shot clock is only 5 seconds out of 11 in the right direction. The refs need to call fouls. One reason offenses are so bad is because of how physical the game is. Basketball is not a contact sport. As soon as you put your hands on another player it is a foul. Players have to learn to play defense with their feet like you're supposed to. Another issue is spacing. 3 pt line needs to be moved back another foot or 2. Probably 2 feet to 22-9(NBA is 23-9). The game of basketball is about scoring. In 2001 there were about 150 teams that averaged over 70 possessions. This past year there were about 30. That's a problem. Why has it slowed down? No idea. Honestly makes no sense to go so slow on offense and make it so easy on the defense. I think they should completely get rid of the block/charge call. Either go up and contest the shot (not always a foul because of the verticality rule and would let the refs watch the offensive players elbows and hands) or you just get out of the way. But yes there is a MASSIVE scoring problem in CBB. Coaches and players are also to blame. Also... overseas and in Canada college basketball players play with a 24 second shot clock. They do great with it. I don't see why American players can't play with a 24 second shot clock. Men's CBB is the only league without a 2r second shot clock. Why? No clue. Just stupidity really. -
We still had a massive problem with our perimeter defense. Everyone was just awful last year. It was so embarrassing. Yogi, JBJ, RJ, Troy and Nick... none of them were any good last year. Absolutely pathetic effort every night. Defense is 90% effort. The team didn't have that last year. The football team had a better defense last year.
