Baumgartner (UNM) has primarily been a WR coach, not RB coach. Horton (SDSU) is not only RB Coach, he's OC & Assoc. HC. Since we gave them Shawn Watson, how about Pitt giving us Andre Powell in return? Or maybe Jordan Howard's former coach: http://www.wmubroncos.com/coaches.aspx?rc=857&path=football

don't think it should automatically disqualify him, but I have to think the A.D./attorney who just released K. Wilson would be hyper-vigilant about a potential candidate with this looming in his background

not my only worry: http://thebiglead.com/2016/11/15/former-northwestern-basketball-player-challenges-ncaa-transfer-rules-alleges-chris-collins-went-to-extreme-measures-to-run-him-off/

He's been mentioned, along with Archie and Holtmann and C. Collins, mostly in a "2nd" group of guys after the dream candidates (primarily Stevens and Donovan and, for some, Marshall). Maybe both Mack and Archie are waiting to see what Thad Matta's going to do in Columbus?

don't think there's much chance of Billy leaving THIS season, no. still think 2018 could (potentially, at least) be a different story. but neither BD nor his players looked very excited when I saw them on TV the other night--I know it's a long season, but if they're not careful they could fall to 8th place and have to play the Warriors in the first round

I think Presti will need to "do something" to keep Westbrook there, like signing Griffin. And I'm not sure even that would be enough. More importantly, would it keep Billy there?
-
from a pure basketball standpoint they might not--but the NBA is nothing if not a "players' league" and if they seriously think they want to play together, I suspect their agents and the Lakers (or Clippers, with Ballmer's $$$) could work something out, even well before Davis' contract w/ the Pelicans runs out.
-
you do realize that new extension still allows Westbrook to opt out in 2018, right? which I fully expect him to do if Presti can't bring more talent in sooner rather than later: http://thunderousintentions.com/2016/12/29/okc-thunder-next-move/

Supposedly Westbrook and the Unibrow (A. Davis) are ALREADY talking about joining up in L.A. to help the Lakers beat Golden State and LeBron.http://www.nba.com/article/2016/11/04/new-orleans-pelicans-struggling-anthony-davis-frustration and the NBA has occasionally been "accommodating" in allowing the Lakers to make some pretty one-sided moves and trades to re-stock their roster.

If Donovan were to wake up tomorrow morning and decide he wanted to return to college coaching, he SHOULD want to come to IU because it's the best (potentially) open job out there during this cycle. But I don't think he wants to leave the NBA at least until he sees what OKC's front office does in the free agent market this off-season and how Westbrook responds to that. To date, I think Billy's W/L % with the Thunder may actually be lower than Brooks' was. But whatever slim chance there is that Donovan might be interested likely wouldn't be for another year or so. And it would probably require a very aggressive, pro-active A.D. to convince Billy to make the move. IMO Glass doesn't fit that profile.
-
especially one that also has an outstanding baseball program. Maybe Lemonis could release Riley from his baseball scholly and the Creans could all head to Baton Rouge. And Tom's already spent some time recruiting JUCO's in that area IIRC.
-
Donovan IMO also fits the criteria and could unite the fans, maybe overnight. But he's almost as unobtainable, sadly, as Brad is--especially THIS year. A year from now, if Westbrook heads back to the West Coast, could be a different story with Billy. I wouldn't be shocked to see an A.D. like Jurich or Barnhart be able to hire him away from OKC if that franchise slips out of the playoffs down the road. I just don't see Glass being comfortable with a guy like Marshall. Also don't see Bennett or S. Miller being seriously interested now. Few never has been interested. That basically leaves a bunch of guys with promise, but who haven't actually done as much yet as Crean had when IU hired him. This whole thing is shaping up as a career-making or career-breaking decision for Glass.

IIRC, the AD at NCSU is a former outstanding BB coach herself and may have her own questions about CTC's coaching limitations. And, of course, they'll prefer Archie anyway. If Goodman and others are right about there being very little chance Miller goes to NCSU, that could imply that Archie feels there's a better job than NC State that's about to open up. Which could be IU, hypothetically. Or could be Ohio State, given how unhealthy Matta appears to be these days. Mizzou might make sense, given the recruiting connections Crean's already established there and that, at the end of the day, it's still a football school with less pressure to achieve big things with its BB program. I tend to agree with those people who say Washington's not gonna release Romar yet, given the talent he has coming in. But a year from now, who knows?
-
If the rumors are true about how much the Creans, especially Joani, want out of Bloomington, CTC may not have waited for Glass's prompting but may have already told his agent to "start looking." Unfortunately for all parties involved, Crean's agent may be finding out that the opinion of his coaching abilities is not as high among other athletic directors as it is among media wannabes who sometimes are granted access to the IU program and reciprocate by calling CTC a "great strategist" in return.

I think there's pretty solid anecdotal evidence of 2 things: 1) Greenspan actually wanted to hire Beilein from WVU but the buyout was too big (IIRC, this may have been before the BTN contract $$?)--Michigan had no problem coming up with the money; 2) the hiring of Sampson was driven by the then-IU President and one or more Trustees over the objections of, among others, the Athletic Director.
-
I'm no fan Greenspan, but he did at least get the facilities renovation project started. And he hired Tracy Smith and Hep. I'm no fan of McNeely either, but he did at least hire Ray Looze. IMO, Looze and T. Smith are probably IU's 2 best coaching hires in the past 2 decades. To date, Glass' hires have been a very mixed bag IMO. Which is why, as much as I think Crean needs to be replaced, I'm not confident about the prospect of FG picking his replacement.
-
IMO Donovan would be almost as much of a home run hire as Stevens and, depending on how the OKC franchise goes in '17 and'18, I think he's more likely than Brad to be interested in a return to college coaching. But 1) I'm not convinced (yet) that Glass will make a move this spring and 2) if he does I suspect he'd be more inclined to hire a younger, less-established guy who wouldn't be as much of a threat to become (a la RMK) "bigger than the program," which I've been told is something the Admin and some Trustees want to avoid at all costs.
-
keep in mind that Seth Davis is a Dookie and that K recruits Indiana. No wonder he wants Crean to remain at IU.
-
the mere fact that IU's paying CTC > $3 Mil refutes Greenberg's assertion IMO.
-
don't see IU going anywhere near Drew after the way the Sampson tenure turned out. Maybe brother Bryce a year from now, though. Altman turns 59 this summer, so I doubt IU would be interested in him either.
-
after Westbrook signed his extension, he has the choice to opt out in 2018--which I fully expect him to do unless OKC can sign a free agent like Griffin this summer.
-
if so, that would presumably also eliminate Marshall.
-
Altman turns 59 next June. Don't see Glass going after someone that old--if Glass does indeed make a move at all.
-
IIRC Hoiberg would be owed $15 Mil by the Bulls if they let him go during/after this season--in addition to the $$ they still owe Thibodeau. And he doesn't coach defense (I know, I know: he could hire a great defensive assistant--where have I heard that one before?)
-
but "The Movement" would be restored, right? Or maybe not...
