(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.
Old Friend replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Looks like the reports of Archie Miller's demise were premature and greatly exaggerated. Three in-state 5 star kids in 3 recruiting classes? I'm not sure how anyone can argue with the direction. The results? They'll come. This is a huge get. Regardless of whether or not he re-classifies, IU's back court (1's, 2's, 3's) is loaded. Maybe as good and deep as anyone in the country. Need a little size now; but damn.... -
(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue

I guess he could, but he makes more money now than he could as a grad assistant. He'd be a guy Archie could just bring in to help. His path doesn't yet include college coaching, but I'd be shocked if it doesn't someday. I don't mean to tease. It's not going to happen as far as I know; I just know the services were offered and I would love to see them accepted. -

I've met Anthony Leal and talked with him. I know and have coached a kid he plays with. I'd take 12 Anthony Leal's. -

None of the above, and the guy wouldn't be anywhere near anyone's "A" list. You've all heard of him, but likely have no idea how terrific a shooter he is. My hint is I said this guy - if he wanted to be - would be the next great assistant coach and maybe college head coach to come from IU. Of the above guesses, Hulls is the closest. -
(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State
Old Friend replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Per a relatively well educated source : Wanted to play for a different coach, with different kids and in a different system. Nothing to do with his being featured. He's featured plenty at his high school. This is about broadening his game and his experience. More off the ball, more using screens that aren't ball screens...change of scenery, etc. -

Not me....but someone I have seen shoot it, and he'd be absolutely terrific. I could help...this guy could make significant and immediate changes. -

I happen to know a great one has offered his services. Yet to be seen if accepted or not. -
They're trying to protect against the ball handler getting downhill; which is a maddening strategy because help should be there, and also his getting an open jumper off the ball screen. But..even on the roll; help isn't there. Defenders are chasing and hugged up. No team defense or communication at all. No effort sometimes on close outs (and it's that way so often that when there IS effort, it's noticeable). It's almost like we're trying so hard to guard against even allowing the 3 point shot we've gotten away from the design of the pack line, which is to take away the paint. I don't get it.
-
Especially by a guy who's slower than the guy he's guarding so he has no chance to get back to the screener when he rolls. Good Lord...how many times do you have to see that? You don't HAVE to blitz a ball screen with a slow guy. Hell, I'd rather jam it and risk the foul call or switch it and give up the drive or the jump shot. Anything but the uncontested roll.

Archie will get another year. New AD, likely new president, and anyone who's responsible for those decisions will let HIS recruits become upper classmen. Glass won't fire him, nor will any new AD. Not yet, anyway. And if it's Chris Reynolds or Scott Dolson, they won't feel the need to....but both will keep a keen eye on the pulse of things. Today's defense was horrendous. The effort and execution on that end were about as bad as I can remember this season. Seriously...how many times are you going to guard a high ball screen with a hard hedge with a slow guy (Davis or Brunk), then allow a slip to the unprotected rim? No help, horrible rotations, no talk....and seemingly no learning. I also don't understand the philosophy of making Brunk your offensive go to early. If HE's your primary post, TJD has a long way to go before even considering the NBA as an option. What did Brunk take, 6 of our first 10 shots or something? Some of that is on the players. Some on coaches. I'm starting to question players I had faith in earlier this fall. That said, I can't imagine how difficult it would be to coach a kid like Green. From what he did on Thursday to a 1 for 7 performance....and that's his pattern. That's maddening. I was unimpressed with everyone but Durham. I know DDavis had some points, but how in the hell does Indiana get out rebounded 37-21? (Brunk and DDavis 3 rebounds between them in 35 minutes) How does Indiana assist on only 7 of 28 made FG's? Are we all of a sudden an iso team with not enough players who can iso or create? How does Indiana have only 7 TO's and manage to lose by 24? The shooting is another issue, and it's so bad it's embarrassing. I know one former walk on who would be - by FAR - the best shooter on this team, and it's a complete no contest. Good Lord, can we find a kid on this team who can consistently make shots? This entire team is mercurial, and it's getting tired. Archie isn't going anywhere yet, however he had better figure out a way to get these kids to buy in, or he'll be on a very hot seat a year from now. I still say a whole lot of this is on the players.

When we played them, MSU was ranked #5 in the country. Lots of teams have a guy who can blow up. Garza just scored 38 against us. Indiana is getting healthier and getting more from more players. Our bigs just won a game (and 3 of them played well) playing against the best big in the conference and one of the best in the country. What are you talking about? I don't think this is the Indiana team of a month ago. Will be interesting to see how they finish.

How many games is Indiana going to play against a 6'11", 260 pound kid who's a national player of the year candidate who averages 24 ppg, shoots 56% from the floor, and can play inside out? (64% his last 3 games and had over half his teams points Thursday night) Asking for a friend. I've noticed in the "negativity thread," a whole lot gets left out whatever story/narrative is the flavor of the day.

I didn't know a thing about the post game press conference nor the question asked of DeVonte Green until I got on here 5 minutes ago. I read above some knucklehead called Doyel "a piece of sh*t." (This board is really going downhill..mods, cut this crap off, please) First of all....he's not. At all. One of the best and most vulnerable and completely transparent human beings I know...and I do know him. He's done more good for people here and in Cincinnati that 99% of people here or anywhere; and he's been through a personal hell I wouldn't wish on anyone. Complete lack of knowledge and a weak, gutless, chicken sh*t move on your part, whoever made that comment. Same knucklehead said "convince me I'm wrong." No....you need to check yourself and stop hiding behind a keyboard. Get out there and in the open like he is, put yourself at risk, do the hard things. Write the hard stories like he does; then you can judge. Until then? You're a punk and that's an idiotic statement/request. Stop it. Second of all, I don't know if Doyel asked the question or if he didn't. But why is everyone bent about it being asked? I'm more upset why he hasn't been repeatedly asked by his coaches. It's more than fair having watched the same thing from him for 4 years, and the same people complaining about player development are the ones complaining about Green being bluntly asked why he hasn't. Awkward? Maybe. But Green's 22. Probably less than 3 months from being asked a whole lot of hard questions by a people a whole lot more important than a newspaper columnist, and he needs to have a better answer for his maddening swings except "inconsistency." DeVonte Green owes HIMSELF an answer to that question. He owes his coaches and team mates an answer to that question. Gregg Doyel (or someone) asked a very hard, awkward, and yet very fair question of a young man who should be able to answer it because he's now over 100 games into the same pattern. Some want repercussions for a guy who asked a hard question?? How soft are you? More questions like that need to be asked of people, and especially of soon-to-be college graduates. "Convince me I'm wrong." -

One more time.... Indiana 77 Iowa 65 -
And as I said above, I think they are the worst seniors in my lifetime. I've heard more than one former player talk about "cancer" in the program, and it's no secret who that is. Smith and Durham are not his players either, regardless of how you spin it. You can call it an excuse all you want. That IS easier.
-
Firing your 5th coach (Davis, Sampson, Dakich, Crean, Miller) since 2006 when said coach is in year 3 before his recruits become upper classmen "could also really hurt the program." I'm not here to sell Archie, but a whole lot of this mess is on the players, too. I think he deserves one more season to show real progress AND that success is sustainable. One man's opinion, but this team's seniors are the worst in my lifetime, and I think that matters. Indiana Basketball needs a coach similar to Donald Trump, only in that whoever he is, like Bob Knight, can't care one bit what people say about him and can't cave to the peanut gallery OR the players. He needs a very thick skin, needs to want the spotlight, but can't listen to the chaff. Glass can't hire the next coach. That would be the worst thing for this program; especially if Chris Reynolds is being considered. A former player, if he's the AD, should be the one who decides the direction, in my opinion.

For what it's worth, I've seen a lot of Comer, and I think he's good but very over rated. Cathedral's team is solid and deep. To beat them by 11 is an accomplishment in itself, but Galloway is a better player than Comer. I'd expect this result.
-
I still don't get the hatred for Dakich. His style may or may not be "for you" but he has the highest rated mid day show in the country and he sure as hell isn't wrong a whole lot as it relates to IU Basketball.
-
Juwon Morgan has played 44 minutes in the NBA. Like I said, you're cherry picking. If this is all you've got...you can stop the fight. It's over. You're basing a comparison of rosters and trying to convict Archie over Crean because a single player played a grand total of 44 minutes in the NBA on an injury call up. This is....really...all you've got?
-
So you're going to his first game as Indiana's coach? When not one of his recruits was even on campus and no player had played a game in his system? The same problems occurred this season? Who is our bad loss this year? I'll wait. Dude, this is pathetic. Even for you. Living in the past and in hindsight is cheap. Bob Knight had a team that lost to Pan American. Thank God the administration didn't call you and ask your opinion.
