They don't know anything. Best to ignore. Reaction-fishing at this point, IMO
-
You're probably correct, unfortunately.
-
Hire Pitino Sr for 3-4 years, win a natty, then hire whoever the hell you want. Enough of this ****. Lets win.
-
There's just no way we hire Brad Brownell. If we do, we truly are not a serious program that wants to win big and people in the college basketball world really do look at IU as a nightmare. Hiring him would tell me every single candidate above him (and there better be at least 10) turned us down. We the fans think there's never been an easier time to be the head coach at Indiana but actual coaches apparently think the opposite if all this ends with Brownell. Not trying to be super negative but man, it's getting very hard to be excited about IU basketball. Football has become what we look forward to and that's pretty awesome but also sad. Why can't we have both?
-
I understand that. It plays to my point that we just don't know with McCollum. He's had unbelievable success at the D2 level and an awesome year 1 with Drake. I'd be more comfortable with Collins.
-
IF the choice is one of those three or McCollum - give me Collins all day every day. Brad Brownell shouldn't even be in our hc conversation. If we end up with him, it's because everyone else said no and Beard was a non-starter. I'd rather take a chance on someone who knows the league inside and out and has been on a P5 staff forever with the other being Duke (I believe Collins has 2 rings). I will be interested to see how Drake does in the tourney when they play big boy schools.
-
Kelsey. Brownell has been a P5 coach for much longer than a year.
-
Ah, my mistake! Totally agree.
-
Do you really think that's a fair comparison?

AT NORTHWESTERN. Didn't hear me, I'll say it again. NORTHWESTERN. It's basically Saturday Night Live with a basketball team in one of the toughest conferences in college basketball. No top recruit goes to Northwestern. The students are total dorks. Do they even have NIL? This Chris Collins is a mediocre coach purely bc he hasn't won big at NW is laughable. The only argument against him is no one else has hired him. Give him resources and a school that cares and who knows.
-
Chris Beard (I know, let's not make this an argument), Chris Collins (go ahead and tell me he's mediocre. Was at Duke forever and guess what? No one wins at Northwestern), Will Wade, Buzz Williams, Mick Cronin, Greg McDermott. Give me any one of those guys over McCollum and I'm not crazy about any of those guys.
-
Mine as well. He wins there's no doubt. But we've gone the up and comer route and they've all proven unable to handle being the head coach at Indiana. It's a risk and we have to stop that ****. Hire a proven winner who's been at big boy programs for the majority of their careers.
-
Exactly. The Crean hire being the exception. Overall and given where the program was, that hire worked out. He just wasn't the guy to get where we ultimately needed to go. Crean has nothing but my respect.
-
If the media likes whoever we pick....that's usually an indication that we chose the nice, safe, "up and comer" - we can't do that any more. Time to take a risk. If the media throws shade at our pick....that would give me confidence knowing we took a risk and are probably about to win. Most of the national media guys hate IU and think our fanbase is full of delusional jackasses. We attack them all the time on social media and they HATE it. Case in point - the media would be ecstatic over a Brad Brownell hire.
-
If they hire Brad Brownell or Mark Turgeon over Beard.....what are we even doing?
-
As he should. Hate the guy as much as you want but at the very least you do your homework on him.
-
I agree with that. It's why I don't wait either of them. I pray IU can do better than those two.
-
Winning at Northwestern is next to impossible. To equate the situations of Collins to the others is unfair. No one wins at Northwestern. Him getting them to the tournament is one hell of an accomplishment. Not saying he'd win it all at IU but he's a very, very good coach. Put him in a better situation and he's probably in the tourney every year. Will say this for Collins - I'm sure he was devastated to hear of Woody's upcoming retirement.
-
I agree. Tired of these "next best thing" options. Every time we've gone this route they can't handle IU. The pressure, the fans, everything. It ends up being way too much. We've got to stop taking chances on coaches. Hire someone who's been in a big boy conference for a long time and know what it's like. I'd take Buzz Williams over McCollum and I can't stand Buzz.
-
It really is ridiculous. Hate Beard all you want but you can't deny his coaching. The words Elite Eight and NCAA Runner Up are on his resume at Texas freaking Tech. Other than Brad and Drew, what other realistic candidate has that on their resume? Taking a chance on another "the next best thing" will most likely result in another search four years from now. I'd rather take a chance on Beard. He wins and by all accounts wants to be here with everything he has but I do get why a lot of people don't want him. I just don't care anymore. I want a winner.
-
I was talking about his profession…..not what Beard is accused of
-
What do you do for a living? I honestly can’t tell. No one cares, dude.
-
She also understands we need to win - now. Taking a risk on another up and comer could set the program back another 25 years if they aren’t successful. You cannot just keep doing this every four years. Not saying Beard is the answer but guess what? He wins. If Beard takes us to the Final Four I guarantee you Kirkwood won’t be full of people protesting the coach. Whitten will be dancing around Showalter fountain. His past will be quickly forgotten. Time for IU to get serious about winning. if you judge someone by their weakest moment - guess what - we’re all pieces of ****. I know I am.
-
This × a million. IU needs to start winning—now. Hiring another the next best potential possibly maybe Bobby Knight approach hasn’t worked. Beard wins. We know this. To me, the risk is worth it. I trust Scott.
-
There’s no way we made Woody step aside mid season to hire McCollum. No way. IMO, he’s probably on the list but no where near the top.
