Woodson? No, but it's absolutely reasonable to assume the HC has a say in how it's allotted and then passes that along the proper channels. It's probably not some troll hidden in the bowels of AH calculating these NIL $ and I very much doubt Dolson or Cindy are pulling figures out of their anus

Might want to find a new rumor mill, this aged like a stale fart.

I love watching good Indiana basketball!

Having watched IU all year and now watching Houston, the size of the canyon that is the difference between the 2 teams is so vast that it's embarrassing. None of their players have the look of "lacking confidence" on their faces and they're all nearly built like grown men. But hey, we grow basketball here?

No, he's just not that great when there's something on the line. Can't teach that

    Depressingly so

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

I would stay away from the physical traits argument. Plenty of guys who don't look like ball players could run circles around Payton Sparks on the basketball court.

IUBB vs Nebraska - Friday, 03.15.24 @ 9PM on BTN

I can't articulate enough how much I hate that we're struggling with NEBRASKA this much this season

You don't understand, nobody cares about what YOU think qualifies someone as a "true fan". Mike Woodson can't tell someone if they're a true fan or not, nor can Leal. Being a true fan is an emotional experience for each individual fan. They may hold views about the current state or direction of the program that you don't agree with but that doesn't mean they're any less a "true fan", whatever the hell that means, than you are. Folks need to stop trying to be the fan gatekeepers

These kids opened themselves up to legit criticism when A.) They chose to attend a basketball hungry university like IU and B.) They began getting paid. I don't remember anybody questioning the character of specifically Leal and Galloway on here. If anything, those 2 have been shown love, deserved or not, more than any player on that roster. Of course all of this is moot if most players beyond Leal and Galloway head for the exit

He may have sole decision making authority in all things basketabll according to his job description, but anybody with a job knows the unwritten aspects of making decisions aren't that black and white. Sure, I may decide that I'd like to turn a spare bedroom into a bowling alley at my house complete with pole dancers and ash trays, but the higher power that is woman that also lives there may have a problem with that

The "we can be successful getting loads of players from the portal" crowd seem to be forgetting a massive detail. WOODSON IS STILL THE COACH. Great transfer portal players don't mzke up for poor coaching, they just don't. Unless Woody is willing to implement a more modern system you can forget about it. He's just going to look worse taking better talent and still missing the tourney

If Gallo and Leal are leaders then i'm Martha the Mop Lady's secret lover. Your bar for leadership is at a nauseating level. Galloway came to IU as a good off the bench player and has grown into a better off the bench player

This is the question that's been on my mind as well. Typically, you'd think the AD would come out and drop that news, not a "source" within the AD department to Osterman. If that's the way our AD department drops news about the job status of our HC, i'm not impressed

I'm not convinced that Woody's plan was to build a team through the portal. I think he got the job, realized how much work it was to actually go out and recruit these kids and decided the portal was going to be easier. Remember, he was an NBA coach. One of the reasons you see guys go to the NBA and stay is because it's not the same kind of grind. A 60 year old coach who's made a career in the collegiate ranks is much different than a 60 year old coach coming from a career in the NBA

Time doesn't care about your will to win. No place is that more obvious than in sports. Woodson's will to win may have meant something when he was playing but not coaching in his 60s. Perhaps he can have the will to change his coaching style, recruiting practices, and general self-awareness.

Wish I could say that I'm surprised by this news but it kinda felt like they were always going to give him that 4th year, unfortunately. Will certainly be interesting to see which players decide to transfer out/go NBA. It's hard to imagine that this could actually get much worse depending on the turnover. Does anybody in charge believe that Woody will be able to coach that many new faces to a successful season based on anything we've seen thus far? Hell he already uses the "this is a new team" excuse enough.

    Welcome Coach Miller

This hire is only risky due to him being a mid major coach, having said that, he was able to do quite a bit with what he had at Dayton. If Archie can recruit the state even a fraction better than Crean did and he can bring a strong defensive mindset to this team I think we'll turn out fine. I'm interested to see who stays and who goes from here. It's been pretty quiet about who's heading out and who's staying, will play a big role in how his first year turns out
  21. IndianaSconnie90

    Welcome Coach Miller

My point is that it's a risk to take a coach from a mid major college, especially if you're fred glass right now. For every coach you just mentioned there's 10 others that turn out to be bad decisions from mid major programs

    Maybe they're waiting on Calipari.......

    Welcome Coach Miller

For those suggesting a mid-major coach, there's really only 1 question glass needs to consider. Is he willing to allow the basketball program to be the guinea pig for a coach from a mid-major college? Because that's what it would be, nobody knows what a coach from somewhere like a Dayton is going to do with a program who plays big boy teams every year

    Welcome Coach Miller

I give it until next Friday for Alford. If we haven't heard a solid rumor or they haven't announced him as the next coach then I have to believe it's Billy. All of the other coaches that are being brought up on this forum have been available and if they haven't made an offer to one of them then they must not be too high on our "want" list. There's only one other coach that IU realistically, in my mind, is/should be looking at, and that's Billy D!
