Judging by the fact that Penix was warming up, I am assuming this was the game he could've gone but we decided to rest him because the staff had confidence in Ramsey. Don't want to throw Penix into the fire against Penn State, let him get back into a rhythm against Northwestern.

If the rumors about concussion protocol are true, there's no reason to rest him if he's ready to play.

Defense really, really worries me, but a hell of a win! Memorial Stadium better be rocking for a night game next Saturday!

Guy who works for Rivals just said he thinks Garcia to IU is a "90% chance" based on what he's hearing.

Hope the Penix concussion, assuming that's what it is, isn't too serious. Feel like IU always has some concussions that last longer than you'd expect. He stayed in and played after it, and played pretty well. Hopefully he'll be good to go next week.

Good win, defense adjusted well in the second half. Health of Penix will be the deciding factor for this team down the stretch. Offense is completely different when he's in there.

Jeez, are people still trying to discredit Penix? I'm legitimately shocked. He was one of 16 QB's given an elite grade by PFF in the country. People still doubting him are absolutely insane at this point, I don't think there are any two ways around it. I stopped coming here for a bit because it was almost absurd, and I come back thinking after MSU those opinions would rightly be gone, but apparently not.

Sure, absolutely. I think the talent around Penix is better than Randle El, at least offensively. This team has some really good players around Penix in Scott, Hale, Philyor, Hendershot, and even Matthew Bedford at offensive tackle I thought was outstanding for his first career start against a front seven like MSU. Defensively I was really happy with how we stopped the run, but the secondary/Linebackers in coverage need a lot of work... Props to Tiawan Mullen though, he is very, very good and he's a true freshman. Probably our best player in the secondary honestly. They were playing him on Stewart, who's one of the best receivers in the Big Ten, and he more than held his own.

I know people say we've been here before, and I agree we have, but the wild card here is Penix. We've been in this situation before but I don't think we've ever had a guy with the "it" factor Penix has, best individual player we've had since the Coleman/Howard/Sudfeld days and he's a freshman. We've been here before, but Penix has the ability to make this team special.

Anyone know if Penix has thrown at all this week? Not expecting him to play but just curious if he's throwing at all.

I don't know, I think if you go back and re-watch that game, and add in the yardage he should have had if our receivers could catch the football, you'd be saying the exact opposite. He made a couple glaring mistakes in that game, the INT and an overthrow to Hendershot, but he was very good outside of those.

You are bringing up a specific stat line to show that Penix's shortcomings against Ball State. I am pointing out that if you watched the game and understood the game, you would realize that the 2nd INT was not on him. Hell, the coaching staff even said as much after the game and reiterated that fact after watching the film. If you want to agree it's not his fault, then why are you bringing it up to showcase his struggles?

Also just throwing this out there, through the first two weeks, Michael Penix Jr. and Justin Fields have been the two highest graded quarterbacks in the Big Ten according to PFF.

Do you watch the games or just look at the stat sheet? Because that 2nd INT wasn't on him at all. Interesting that you bring up his number of attempts, because his average yards per throw were significantly higher in that game than what Ramsey's career stats have been up to this point.

Setting the top passing mark for a quarterback in a debut since Antwaan, in a game where we had at least 5 or 6 blatantly dropped passes that would have made his total yardage even more impressive, is "barely" doing that for you?

I hope he is, Chris doesn't sound optimistic though.

What was the point of having him meet with the media? Were they just trying to keep it under wraps and having him not meet would raise questions?

Chris, is there any chance Penix plays or is that a pipe dream at this point?

So Penix is out it sounds like? That really sucks if that's true. Why did they have him meet with the media on Monday if he wasn't gonna be able to play? Was it a practice injury?

Penix opens up so much more for us offensively. Teams weren't respecting Ramsey's deep ball at all last season, you can't do that with Penix. If you don't play him honestly, he'll beat you over the top with the 60 yard deep ball like he did with Westbrook 2 times (one was a dropped pass). Kind of blows my mind people still question if Ramsey would be better for us this year, I don't think it's remotely close.

Only one interception was Penx's fault. The other was on Fryfogle who slipped and threw off the route. I have no idea how you can possibly watch that play and say that INT was on Penix.
