IUBB Pick'ems Game #29 vs. Illinois

I'm in solely to beat Jay!
  2. I read that page, it made me feel sad for them. They recognize this is a massive game, but still aren't confident they can even stay in it. They later talk about Rojo being out and mention how they would have a chance if it was Yogi because they have no answer for him otherwise.   Vegas has us at -8.5 btw.

THEY REDEFINED ANGLO?!?!   What is happening in this world? The world is pretty much Latin for "English".

With Uthoff in any foul trouble Iowa is a different team.

Totally right. And I had it written correctly and thought "no wait, Iowa is at Michigan I think" and changed it because I lack attention to detail.

(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

The relaxed Grad Transfer rules have a big effect too. Why develop the player and take a scholarship when someone else can develop them for you?

We need Michigan to be fired up and trying to play-in @Iowa! Keep it together guys.

I know this is three weeks old, but I think you have cause and effect backwards. Crean focuses on East Coast kids in part because he has awful relationships with in-state coaches.

    TOM CREAN FIRED

That year with Hollowell though (and Troy's Freshman year), I think it's natural they both played too many minutes. I mean, we were bad. Who else was going to play those minutes? It was Hollowell or Troy at PF the whole year because those were our choices. The only players who deserved a lot of minutes were Yogi, Sheehey, and Vonleh, so that leaves a lot of other guys who are going to see the floor who probably shouldn't have after we saw what they could do. They got minutes as an investment in their development, it just didn't work out.   JBJ definitely played too many minutes, but was the driving force behind our offense. Who could have predicted if we sat him our offense would barely drop off and our defense would immediately improve? Even his detractors couldn't anticipate the immediate turnaround without him. I'm sure Crean thought, like I did when he was injured, JBJ's offense helps power our offense and keeps the floor spread for everyone else to succeed. It's a risk-benefit choice and we all have the advantage of hindsight.

USF DC Tom Allen hired as DC

Just got Thomas Allen's contract in. Seems pretty standard for a DC, employment contingent on Wilson's employment, $500,000 a year, yearly renewal required. All that good stuff.   That's a significant raise too right? I remember Knorr was closer to 325? I can remember determining how much cocaine had to be sold to equal his salary, but not what the salary was. Figures.   http://docdro.id/E1MsfkI

    Standings and remaining schedule 2/22

Are the people who agree with his posts unable to contribute for some reason? You're right though, all we can do is evaluate who is participating in the conversation to determine what participant has the minority opinion. If other people would like to claim KenPom does not include recency as a factor in predicting games, I'd be happy to point them to the fact that he does too.   No one disagreed with his points about injuries or suspensions, nor did anyone say Kenpom was infalliable and accounted for everything. Kenpom does however account for improved recent play. In the initial post I made, you may recall I agreed with Alford Baily regarding Kenpom's inability to account for everything.

My insider opinion is, Brass is being addressed because he was a primary contributor to the conversation RE: KenPom. As mdn and I were both also discussing the same statistics, it seemed natural to include him in the conversation. There is no piling on. Brass stated Kenpom did not account for recency, this is untrue so I stated otherwise. I didn't even quote Brass because my point was about the reliability of KenPom's predictions in general.   The effect of "piling on" you may feel you see is because after making my point, the discussion continued. When one party disagrees with the conventional wisdom, the continuation of the discussion will likely include the majority group addressing the minority group in greater numbers. If you go to a farming bar in rural southern Indiana and start spouting the strengths of Bernie Sanders, you may notice the patrons "pile on" against you. That is nothing personal to you, it's a function of being a member of a vocal minority and engaging in a conversation about your minority viewpoint.

Without Troy Williams, we are not in the Big Ten Title hunt this year or even in the Tourney last year.   I'm not getting dragged into another pointless argument, so that's all I'll say about it.

I think you're putting way too much thought into it and maybe taking a minor feature of the site too seriously. You may have been quoted for any reason from "habit" to "adding context".

Have you only managed to tune-in for Troy's poor performances? Playing like he did against Purdue is why Troy gets the minutes he does.   I'd understand if you only saw us in our worst games, it would certainly explain your attitude towards the team.

KenPom only likes us by 7% more than Wisconsin, so it's not a big gap.   The statistics are also time-weighted in KenPom, recent games get more weight in his adjusted efficiency numbers which are the biggest part of the prediction. So, he likely is taking into account how Wisconsin is currently playing.     No, but if he could value potential mental mistakes he could make a fortune in Vegas. I think the disadvantage is, they would likely overlook OSU not Wisky, and I don't know if OSU can beat them at reduced strength.

And @ Michigan for the last game with Michigan possibly playing for an NCAA berth will be pretty big too.   Tonight is a big game. If Iowa can conquer, they have a real shot at divesting us of our share. If Iowa loses, we can be confident we (should) at least get a piece of that radical rock.   KenPom also has this as Iowa's easiest remaining game so... nuts.

    What About RoJo?

Since you can't read that on mobile, I considered making a joke like "Doctors said they couldn't save the leg #justfuzzmyshoeup" but man, Romans 8:28 has me bummin' enough.   The tweet reads "Romans 8:28. Encouraged."   28 Furthermore, we know that G-D causes everything to work together for the good of those who love G-D and are called in accordance with HIS purpose."   For those who are not familiar with the New Testament, the verse is an encouragement to those who are suffering through trials. It says HE will use these trials for good, for purposes in line with HIS will. The two proceeding verses read "26 Similarly, the SPIRIT helps us in our weakness; for we don't know how to pray the way we should. But the SPIRIT HIMSELF pleads on our behalf with groanings too deep for words; 27 and the one who searches hearts knows exactly what the SPIRIT is thinking, because HIS pleadings for G-D's people accord with G-D's will. "   It's an encouraging verse for those who are having a really hard time of things. From a pure basketball perspective, I would say it's not particularly good news.   I mean, or Rojo is a huge Calvinist. That whole section of verses are the backbone of Calvinism's five points.

Averages are not trends either. Do you have somewhere where you presented 10 years of data?

How about 3 years like I said? We just happened to give Davis 6 years (4 post-championship game). You can't fire a college coach for underperforming with players that were not recruited for his system.   Yeah, Kennedy is having a good year. Has Crean ever had a good year? Does that change his ability? It's not a trend until it's a trend.
