Double D laying down a truth bomb right now on 1070!
MartintheMopMan replied to Bk4life's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Though, also consider that the people who don't agree with him or respect him aren't going to go on his show. I agree that he knows a lot, but when he goes on his soap boxes is when he shows the gaps in his knowledge and his biases. The things he knows he knows well, but he doesn't admit the things he doesn't know, he just fakes it. That's what I don't like. If he could be impartial and defer to others when he doesn't know something, then he could be a great personality. At the moment, in my opinion, he blows. He lets his personal experiences bias how he calls things, he is hard on IU for things he isn't hard on Michigan for. Or is very very "kind" to Craft for something that he'll disdain Yogi for. I don't think that he is stupid, or that I'm smarter than him, or anything like that. I think he's blinded by his history. If ESPN had him call ACC games instead he would be great. No one should be calling for their son's team anyway. -

Back in 2012 everyone I knew felt the same way about Dan calling the games as ever. He's terrible. He doesn't say things because they're "the truth" he says them because he can and because he has a radio show he wants people to listen to. How anyone can say he just speaks the truth after hearing him slobber on Craft's knob with every drooling breath just blows my mind. He has obvious biases, and "speaks the truth" the same way Bill O'Reily or Bill Maher speak the truth, aka if you agree with what he says you believe it regardless of its objective truth. -

Because all the teams were clamoring for the young Dakich boy. He had his pick of the walk-ons, he was ready to ride his no-scholarship anywhere it took him! Such great basketball IQ. First in the gym, last one out. Great ball handling. Full of spirit. Good head on his shoulders. -

Or both. He definitely was with the program, but who knows what information he really has or what he really thinks? Here is an interview he did in January. http://assemblycall.com/interview-student-manager-tyler-devitte/ -
Whoa, I'd say smoking only negatively affects one of those things for sure. Following the NFL's debate on medical marijuana adds a lot more context to the whole thing. It's pretty unbeatable for minor aches and pains associated with high level sports. Now, I'm not saying that that's why these kids were smoking, but it definitely doesn't have to be wholly negative to their performance. But, on the other point, I have zero sympathy. You get into a position that requires you to adhere to a certain set of rules to have an amazing opportunity then you darn well adhere to that set of rules. I have no sympathy for law students that get public intox tickets that keep them from taking the bar right out of school for the same reason, you knew the expected behavior when you came in. At least adhere to it.

At least we don't have to worry about any crazy sub patterns.

I'm a huge 49ers fan. This year they have been ridiculously undisciplined on the field, despite Harbaugh being a serious disciplinarian. Sometimes the two aren't connected. I mean, OK. This time they seem pretty connected. But, just isn't always the case.

Former Hoosiers Weigh In on IU's Issues
MartintheMopMan replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
His got to me the most, it's easy for people who played hard, got on the court, heard the cheers of their fans, to talk about IU traditions. When a guy who spent his time injured, soaking it in from the bench gets it, it just speaks to me. I hate how his college career went. Not with a bang but with a whimper. -

What college did Scott Howard (aka Teen Wolf) end up going to? He would have made a great Hoosier. About Yogi's height too. Check out these moves! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4kfwhUm3O8 -

Isn't it a fruity brand of Chapstick? -
And recruit's parents would be a huge issue if I was talking about keeping Crean for 2-years rather than 6 months. Recruits and their parents will have the security of knowing who they'll be playing for when they get to school. And if it's about Indiana and not Crean, then why dismiss a plan that is better for the team in order to get at Crean faster? There are mechanics that keep OG and Morgan in place while Crean is here. Then, when/if a new coach is found, you transition them in and they can meet with the players/recruits who can then make their decisions. If you just kick Crean to the curb tomorrow, then it will be chaos in the next 6 months rather than an orderly transition. It isn't far fetched to keep anyone if they know who they are going to play for, it's only far fetched while they have the freedom to recommit elsewhere and they don't know who the coach is. Heck, if Crean were fired and OG and Morgan had the choice between finding another school to play for now or waiting until May for IU to hire a new coach to see if they fit their play style, they would be stupid to stay. There is just too much risk for them to hold out until spring recruiting if they didn't have to.
-
With the right coach, definitely. With no coach and no solid prospects at least until the end of the season all while knowing they don't have an incoming 2015 class (there is absolutely no way Morgan and OG would stick with an interim coach)? I doubt it.
-
Who do you think would stay without knowing who the coach they got in 6-8 months was going to be? Though, I think they'd finish up the year before transferring.
-
Just because we don't have commits doesn't mean that we don't have recruits. Groundwork is laid for years and years. Though, it would be kind of fitting for all three Gordons to play for different coaches.

This blows my mind. You guys live in a city where a dozen people who smoke weed pass a drug test every single day. How can you possibly all fail? And fail multiple times? If we aren't going to get the team under control can we at least get them a student consultant who can teach them how to stop getting caught? -

Whoooo! I effected change! I feel like a hero. I could do anything! Quick, someone make me AD of IU! -
Who said anything about championships? Or even keeping Crean. I'm willing to put up with Crean until a new coach is hired. I don't know why you think that means "stick with Crean forever and hope he winds a championship." But if the choice is a string of interim coaches, no recruiting, loss of players, loss of recruits, all to go through months of a coaching search where we end up with some crap coach with a crap resume. And then we spend the next 6 years complaining about that coach and wishing we'd gotten a better one. Been there, done that. Twice. I'd rather keep Crean in town until a new coach is hired. That way the players know who would be taking over and may actually consider staying, recruiting can start immediately, and we can get a coach of the caliber we deserve because we aren't asking them to take over a dumpster fire. If you think the situation now even COMPARES to the program before he showed up then you have no idea what it was like before.

While we're asking about banned words I'm still curious why I can't use my friend Richard's preferred nickname but can use the word for BS. The banned word list here is confusing. -

Stevens's salary is only $500k more than Crean's base salary. It's a pretty surmountable difference. -
I see it. Were you around for the last coaching search? Firing Crean at the beginning of the season will be more than painful, it will mean another dark era and at the end we end up with what? Another coach willing to jump into a terrible situation aka Crean 2.0.
-
My position on firing Crean still has to be what it has been. I do not want to go through a coaching search. Crean better not walk away until we have someone better ready to sign. A coaching search means the destruction of everything that has been built.

Hey, I don't mess around with legal questions. Nor was anything going to be a "diatribe" but an explanation. If you want to say things about the contract clauses you can't act surprised when someone who speaks legalese says they aren't as simple as you're making them. I also didn't need to "come around" because I was on the fence the whole time. I don't agree with a lot of what Crean does and hold him accountable, but I appreciate other things he does and understand the hard position of the administration. I don't understand what informs your opinions about me, or why all of your posts have to have such a negative tone. There's no reason to say things like "another long diatribe" when talking about another poster who is trying to contribute, it's just rude and unnecessary.
