IUBB vs. Eastern Washington Post Game Thread
MartintheMopMan replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Have we ever been in a situation where we didn't have time-outs to use? Crean has horded them like health potions in Final Fantasy since he got here. If time-outs carried over from game to game, the screen would literally be filled with little bars for how many time-outs IU has left. I can't even count how many times he hasn't used his "use it or lose it" time-out until the last minute or less in the first half. -
(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU
MartintheMopMan replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If we're honestly still one of his two final teams it's either: 1, Both programs are in trouble, and maybe we can be the best of the worst; 2. Mom doesn't actually care and she's just into the attention; OR 3. They know something the rest of us don't about the staff next year. I can't imagine another reason at this point. -
(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU
MartintheMopMan replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If there is one thing this team is number 1 in the country at, it's making it so that it doesn't just rain, it pours. This kills us. Are we in the top running for any other four or five star bigs for next year? And if not, are we just looking at a repeat of this year? Unless one of our projects really comes along, I don't see what else could happen. As far as I'm concerned, not having a big in this class is a death sentence to the year and shows that the one thing we all backed Crean in (recruiting) is no longer even a skill. Unbelievable. The bright side? He isn't deciding until spring. If Glass isn't completely retarded, there is machinery working in the background to separate Crean from the school and it's plausible that whatever coach is coming in still has a shot to convince mom the program will be better. I mean. If the sunshine is pumping at maximum capacity. -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

See, this is the stuff that increasingly convinces me that you are a well-spoken four-year-old. -
I'm with you, I'm confused about the context of this post. We don't have a week between games until Grand Canyon to Butler in December. Even if it was "let's pretend this game didn't happen" then it's still only 6 days between games because we play Friday.

He's right. Maybe our players should have tried growing taller and bigger so they could play the post. ARE YOU GUYS EVEN TAKING THE HGH I GAVE YOU?!?! -
The holes in this roster are baffling
MartintheMopMan replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's easy and common to see people going at Lyles around here, but I totally agree. The kid looks at a Kentucky team that has tons of great pieces coming together and we blame him for wanting to be a part of that? They have a great offense and an absolutely suffocating defense. (I hate Cal's style as much as anyone, but they would make us look like Lamar.) The title is theirs to lose as hard as it is for us to say here. 13 minutes a game and a serious tourney run/title beats out 35 minutes and no post-season. -

MartintheMopMan replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think that's not a terrible plan. Crean can be happy we took away the three all he wants, but taking away the three to give them free access to the two isn't a great plan. Also, we didn't take away the three. -

So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The worst part of the whole thing, at least for us, is let's say the decision has been made to find a new coach (heck, it could have been made when everything came out a couple weeks ago) if everything is done right then we won't know about it until the spring. If they're handling the transition and search correctly we should have zero idea that anything has changed at all. We'll continue to impotently get angry and make suggestions and debate what could happen all while everything is already happening behind the scenes. -

MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They aren't really that snap, it's been the same thing the entire season so far. We can't defend in the post and we can't even pretend that we can. We are all watching a team that is helpless on defense and wins by happening to out shoot at the right time. Lamar matched our points during the final 24 minutes. Lamar. Ranked 341st out of 351 teams by KenPom after they played us. And tonight we lost on coaching. They weren't better than us, they didn't crack our code. We didn't put up any fight against them or seem to make any efforts to use our strengths to our advantage. -

MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I mean, this game could be a fluke and he sweeps the rest of our non-conference, gets a decent conference record, and then does some damage in the tourneys. Otherwise, his future looks bleak. -

And if not that Tony Bennett, then maybe the other one? He could write songs for recruits. I bet that would help. -

MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's the way you get to handle it when the program isn't total crap during the change over. There's a reason almost all coaching changes occur during a similar time period in the spring. But, if you look at old threads on this forum you'll find that we think about this all the time. There are ways to change coaches that aren't quite as dramatic as IU has done in the past. It absolutely doesn't have to be as painful as you think. Look at Minnesota. Fired Tubby Smith, hired Dick Pitino, added 4 wins the next season. -

So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I can tell no one is going to convince you, but if it's handled properly then it's nothing like Sampson. Sampson was a messy firing before the season ended marred by scandal where the entire team had to be cleared out while bringing in someone who wasn't an instant all-star coach. If this is handled properly, it's an end-of-season transition firing where recruits and current team members have an opportunity to know who the new coach will be and maybe some won't transfer if it's a dynamite hire. He comes with some recruits or has enough personal clout to get a few springs. It's like... the exact opposite. -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't understand how anyone can think that it would be another massive build. A good coach that either comes with kids or inspires kids to stay can be huge. We clearly still have recruiting clout. -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Yeah, but they earn that with success at their program first. This is a position that can certainly end up that high if he starts hanging banners. -
