So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Oh, is Diane Rawlinson available? That's a pretty dated reference, but people still get it right? Factually inaccurate about it being the best pizza. Coal-fired NY pizza is the best pizza, I've lived across the country and haven't found an adequate substitute. Worst part about leaving the East Coast. It is the best pizza for hundreds and hundreds of miles though. -
WE HAVE BIGS?!?!?!

I'm still just waiting for AE to take a shot.

IUBB vs. Eastern Washington Post Game Thread

And maybe teach him about something called a "shot fake". Sometimes, when a player looks like they're shooting/about to shoot they aren't really going to do it and want to move you out of position. You don't always have to move for these motions. -

I feel like there is a difference to losing to a 42nd ranked team on a neutral court and losing to a 127th (after beating us) ranked team at home though. -
Deflections are a pretty legit stat. Crean may overvalue them, but I think you and others seriously undervalue them. Here's an article from NPR where Pitino talks about how important they are to winning. http://www.npr.org/2013/03/28/175521651/deflections-the-unofficial-stat-that-measures-success And another: http://www.stack.com/2013/09/20/basketball-deflection/ http://highbasketballiq.blogspot.com/2010/08/more-nba-advanced-statistics.html

Well, we are in an Indiana forum... Sure, if this keeps happening it could lead to chemistry issues. That it happened once? Probably not. And comparing the games that JBJ and TW had? I'm not surprised or bothered that he may not have thought JBJ could pull through. It's easy for us to have a problem with it because it went poorly. If the play had ended looking like this we would be heaping praise on TW for it. It's the same issue as Yogi's hero ball toward the end. When no one on the court seems capable of playing well at the moment, can you blame the players who are having good games for not trusting them?

I'm confused too. I think we have pretty great chemistry on this team actually. If we were a meth lab, we are doing great work with our P2P, 40 percent aqueous methylamine, and alcohol but we're just missing the mercury amalgram to make a high quality product. We're trying to make do with a platinum oxide reduction and it just doesn't cut it. The chemistry is there, but the ingredients are wrong. BTW mercury amalgram in this analogy is "defense/high quality post play".

Seems like you have a lot of "grass" on your mind rebel. You been showin' Stan love? As chief optimist here in charge of keeping the rest of us sane, how far into the season/what kind of losses would you look for before starting a behind the scenes coach search this year? I think we all agree that we would prefer a managed transfer of the team to a new coach who is hired before anything is announced, not a period of coachlessness, so the wheels have to start turning before the spring. I'm just curious what it would take to get you turning them. -
He had a bad play. If that's the worst thing you saw and have to focus on in that game then you weren't watching closely enough. Performance-wise, if half our players had done as well as Troy did, even if he shouldn't have always been going for the dunk, then we would have won that game. I mean, the guy had 9 boards (most on the team, 1/3 of our total), shot 57% with 8 FGs, made all three of his free throws. Unless your name is Yogi then I don't think any players get to feel like they had a much better night than he did.

I tell you, people would be a lot more OK with how things work themselves out if we showed improvement after kickin' all these guys to the curb.

The State of our program- How do you guys feel about it?
MartintheMopMan replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well don't go to the women's water polo championships, you'll be disappointed. It's been like 20 years since a non-Californian team has made it past the first round. Edit: I mean, I like it too. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a funny thing to know/use to defend how IU sports in general are doing, but it just happens to be the random sport that I know we do really really well at that probably no one goes to. -

Our women's water polo is out of control good for a non-California team. -

You miss 100% of the shots you take - Austin Etherington -
He didn't get minutes against Lamar either. Probably those sub-340 teams just move too fast.
-
Does Holt have processing issues where he can't deal with fast moving things? Or wait, was the game literally moving too fast to substitute and we just couldn't scrounge up a time-out?
-
And what else is Crean going to say? "Man, I really need a big guy, I can't believe I didn't recruit a post-player, rebounder, or defensive-minded kid. I am so boned next year." You tell the troubled masses that you got exactly what you need and just give me two more years and you'll see the difference even if I did screw-up recruiting Zimmerman and Bryant.

It's a Fred Glass problem if he's decided there is no problem with mediocrity. -

Loss (and bad play in the wins) and a recruit's mom saying she doesn't trust the program. Not that I think that pushed them if the others didn't, but to me, Bryant's mom's comments are huge. -

I'd go with Maxwell Smart, but he died in 2005. -
Something tells me they slept well. Probably in a drunken stupor. Just like the rest of us.
