Since the JB suspension of 9 games was the longest in history, I'd say the suspensions don't make sense. They're also so long that you might as well slap a year or two of show-cause on them. 20 games is too many to be meaningful. If either coach knew then you have to issue a show-cause not a suspension. Loss of all scholarships is the death penalty. They may be semantically different, but that is turning the whole program off for those years. 3 scholarships a year is likely high for Louisville too unless more comes out. They'll be hit harder with recruiting restrictions not loss of scholarships. Either way, I do not foresee UNCBB getting hit that hard, especially after this Tourney. Blame will be pushed onto football and they'll decimate an already crappy program.

IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?
MartintheMopMan replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Since 1975 actually, when the Ravin case said Alaska residents have a constitutional right to possess marijuana. -
They have sure made me look stupid for saying San Diego State deserved Syracuse's spot. My bad!
-
San Diego State not even in this game, who could have thought they wouldn't be the best defense in the NIT on any night?

If he didn't figure it out when the buzzer sounded after the UNC v. Notre Dame game...

Here is one only like 2 years old.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
MartintheMopMan replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's cool. The tweet actually shows up in the "quote" which is new. Can people on android app see Hova's post before mine? Maybe it will fix in the new iOS update. -

Assistant Coaches Titles
MartintheMopMan replied to Berghoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
It's like in-between a grad assistant and official coach. In the NFL it's essentially a graduate assistant but in college there is a little more to it. They find, prep, and go over game tape and scout tape. But it can be used as a catch-all too if he is making more than peanuts. He can do anything except contact recruits or do any on-field coaching. Which still leaves a lot he can do really. -
Awww don't say that. It makes it real.

First, what a name! Second, Arizona, USC, Utah, Indiana. Darn it feels good to be a football school. -
Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG
MartintheMopMan replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
In diagnostic terms it is usually used when a mechanism of injury which would otherwise cause a sprain tears the bone instead of the ligament. Common in children because they have very strong ligaments and weak bones relative to adults. The high ankle is a very common spot for an avulsion fracture because the syndesmosis ligament is stupid strong. Instability preventing proper alignment and causing some diastasis (muscular separation) would be the other reason you'd go in for surgery. If RoJo has been playing with the injury all year then this is likely as an avulsion would have reabsorbed a lot of the bone by now and smoothed the edges. -
A Final Analysis on the 2015-16 Hoosiers

Can't help my analogies that I'm mostly on my phone now either. I'm not doom and gloom, this is just my standard offseason emotion. How can anyone have hope or happiness knowing there is no more Indiana basketball for 7 months? And we are less than a week away from losing all college ball! At least there are spring games soon and old college football on YouTube. -
I'd take Duke's record. If we add 1 more year then there is another championship too. Are any of the teams in the Final Four currently serving serious NCAA sanctions? Win a title, don't win a title. Let's not act like the entirety of the Crean criticism is just titles. It's an inability to compete at a high level consistently and an inability to compete at an elite level at all.

Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG
MartintheMopMan replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good thought. That could definitely not hurt too much to practice but be dangerous enough not to play. And while usually you'd expect them to just allow reabsorption, that would slow his return to practice. If he had some avulsion they would still call it a sprain too. -

Surgery!? That tells me everything about Collin and Juwan but I don't quite understand how Rojo was iffy, practicing, and requires surgery unless high ankle sprain was not even close to the actual diagnosis or he had some serious laxity. -
A Final Analysis on the 2015-16 Hoosiers

Once you divide our program between the last 20 years and the time before, then we shouldn't have any expectations at all. We are blueblooded because of the history, otherwise we'd be less notable than Maryland or Oregon. Our history prior to 1995 is inextricably part of who we are and while division may explain why young people are satisfied with a few Sweet Sixteens every few years, it can't make it any more acceptable as a program. I think you added "2012" as a response to my first point but it's hard to tell on the app. My response however is kind of just "exactly". Going with the analogy, we fixed up our ride after 11-12 and really tricked it out. Threw a 5.86 L Pushrod V8 in that beast and told the world we were coming. They took note, ranked us high, and we started enjoying the ride. We finally reached the last few laps again and... Son of a botched job the car exploded again! Even worse than before! We said it would be ok and really next year is when we can win the race. Nope. Didn't qualify. Well, lots of teams have that issue maybe next year. Qualified with bad position and were out immediately. Next year though... Ooo boy! This is the best ride in 20 years but ($&@$;;;&" the engine exploded in the exact same place again! Maybe next year... -

Can you not enjoy a journey without also being disappointed and frustrated by the destination and increasingly insecure about your next trip? Glad you had such a fun car to ride in but concerned the crash at the end was inevitable? Not sure if your driver can take the car rebuilt from the broken pieces to take you on the same or better journey next year? I'll remember Yogi going for the kill, but will my daughter? You're right about it being one of the best in school history though, I'd only rank it behind 1940, 1953, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1987, 1992, 1993, and 2002. Easily in the Top 16. -

But they wouldn't. That is a big issue with this idea. The schools who could compete are the ones willing to spend the money on their basketball team. Harvard could pour more into their facilities and staff, but choose to spend the money elsewhere. There is no reason to suspect this would change for them or any other school making the same decision. The schools already heavily invested in their football or basketball teams would invest more and everyone else would fall behind. Having the salary tied to ranking is more interesting, though would have to figure out a consistent and auditable ranking system. -
NCAA Tournament Final 4 Thread
MartintheMopMan replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
And as long as we have to do the same thing every time to be good then it's a good thing we're all satisfied with the Sweet Sixteen. Our inability to beat Wisconsin and MSU consistently should really tell us everything we need to know about the long-term prospects of our DNA. -

And yet, they were able to adjust and come in and play with UNC instead of just falling further and farther behind because they weren't the better team.
