I've said these FBI related shenanigans will be a huge benchmark for the NCAA. Considering that some people involved may get prison terms, they're (NCAA) going to be under the microscope. If Louisville, or any other school found similarly guilty isn't given a strong punishment, it's all over for them as an organization. Then again, like you say, they let the UNC violations disappear into thin air, so I'm not putting money on it.

Is the Porter kid still in play, or do we believe he's going to Maryland (or otherwise off the table)? -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Who is this INBBallSource (aka Trevor Andershock)? From looking at his twitter page, it appears he's pretty informed on Indiana HS and NCAA hoops. I didn't see anything recent about Romeo, but if he's sharing anything positive with the likes of Slater, it can't be a bad thing for us (and certainly moreso that Rabjohns, IMO). -
I think that is an interesting question. Maybe Romeo would translate to more wins in his one season (assuming he ends up being a one and done), but Taylor could help the team without being such a main focus (and thus allowing the rest of the players on the team to develop offensively). While I'd be ecstatic if Romeo came, it may be that long-term development of the other freshmen and players like Smith, Durham, and Moore could be affected.

My crystal ball told me that the cold weather and snow was over a few weeks ago, so I smashed it with a hammer. So I'll just echo what '66 says:

I'd really, really, really, like to see Romeo Langford play for our Hoosiers. But, at this point I'm glad Damon still owns the record. -

I think you make a good point. With all of the careful consideration the Langford's are engaged in, it would be hard to believe this and other scenarios haven't been taken into account. Without knowing what importance Romeo and family attach to various factors, it's nothing but a SWAG. Two things about the crystal ball system - guys like the esteemed Jerry Meyer have shown that they often make picks with little concrete information (unless you believe his last-minute flips were because the player actually changed his mind). Secondly, I am always interested in the makeup of the "jury" - in this case we see "national experts", a Vanderbilt insider, and a Kansas insider. Where is the Indiana insider? If any recruiting expert actually could get any snippets of solid info (of which there doesn't seem to be any in the RL situation), it kind of seems like someone that has contacts within Indiana might bring as much insight to the table as many of the others. I don't know what I am more eager for: Romeo to pick IU or for this process to finally be decided. -

I guess they had to abandon Emory Air Freight to avoid suspicion, LOL (After the famous open cash packet incident, the first time UK came to AH for a game, my buddy and I put an Emory envelope on the dashboard of his car while parked out by the football stadium) -

I want to believe that you win championships with good players that work hard to win games and aren't focused on getting to the NBA as the main objective. -

I hope so. I don't care whose source about Romeo to IU is correct - as long as ONE of them is correct. -
(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
pumpfake replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'll accept that. I made an error, confusing that Bazley was not on Hunter's team but Reddish probably did steal the spotlight from Forrester - as Stromboli corrected me above. As stated, I'll accept that it was an honest question. Just wondered if it was a little bit of "piling on" after Stromboli had already corrected my error (and you liked his post, no less). -

Damn (facepalm). You are correct about the teammate thing. Maybe the best recovery would be to say that he (Hunter) has been overlooked because of Bazley and that could be a motivator. -

pumpfake replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Frankly, I hope that is the case. I know it's part of the recruiting business, but I think a staff can really waste a lot of valuable time jacking around with players that can't or won't be honest or decisive. (I'm not directing this at any current recruit). One of my favorite characteristics of Archie Miller is that he means business and seems to put his cards on the table. I suspect he knows how to interpret a kid's interest level. -

I have to wonder if Jerome is quietly motivated to shine now that he's out of his (former) teammate's shadow. Hopefully it will be like the Bracey Wright/ Deron Williams scenario (with us benefiting this time). I hope part of that shooting regimen includes time spent at the FT line - this past season showed how much poor FT shooting can turn W's into L's. -

National Title Game Michigan vs Villanova
pumpfake replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I really like and prefer the model of having an experienced roster. Seems conducive to both winning and playing solid, consistent basketball. When you think about it, the use of the redshirt is a bit similar to back when freshmen were ineligible - they had a year to learn the system, hone their skills, and develop their bodies. I guess the trick is getting the right players, including kids that are willing to redshirt (hopefully this will mean Race T. will be ready to contribute). As someone mentioned yesterday, Clifton Moore would have really benefited by redshirting as the staff suggested (supposedly). -

Who's Declaring/Transferring Around NCAA 2018
pumpfake replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good question - it sure didn't happen much over the past 10 years or so. If indeed things stay status quo, it would seem to indicate that everyone is both happy with their situation and buying into what the coaching staff is asking of them. -
Off topic, but I had to do a double take when I saw a quick headline on the Indystar online. It said "Steven Hawking honored by hundreds at UK funeral". I was in disbelief until I realized it referred to the United Kingdom.
-
Took a quick look on the Syr message board (it's gotta suck for them). Best comment was "none and done".

Wow. Just for giggles I looked at the rosters over the past decade or so (McD Allstars ). Not only a small percentage that played in the NBA, but a heck of a lot of them didn't really distinguish themselves in college. I've never enjoyed watching that game, so I don't have any expertise on the subject, but when was the last time IU had a McD player that was a starter in the game (Zeller?)?

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
pumpfake replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Absolutely true. The value of being surrounded by experienced players that have had time to learn what the college game is all about, learn the respective systems, and become physically prepared for Div 1 basketball, is greater than being able to play with other (inexperienced) freshmen. Logically the choice at this point should be between us and KU - both have advantages over the other and I'd like to believe we hold an advantage. My greatest source of optimism is that the Langfords have obviously been methodical in making this decision and that Mr. Langford sure seems to indicate a preference for IU. That said, who knows?
