Yeah, I was going to say his 3-pt and FT woes don't appear to have improved, but his 2-pt % and rebounding continue to be strong.

2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
pumpfake replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Purely from a betting perspective, Dingle would be more likely to produce than any freshman (IMO). -

Tom Crean was a man before his time - the O.G. of "Creaning". -
Seeing current players show enthusiasm for additions is encouraging.

It seems the new staff at MD has/will reel in some really talented players. Not so sure JG isn't jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Maybe he can flourish in different surroundings and system. IDK

Somebody get that tweet to McNeeley. STAT!
-
lol, that fact is why I would always grit my teeth and/or cringe when he was suggested as a possible future HC for us.

I can see the logic to it. Be like Gonzaga in BB and not be a perennial also-ran or cellar-dweller in football. But the $$$ wouldn't be there from a BTN contract, so that would never happen. It seems like there's two paths for success: Unilaterally play the type of game today's players want to play and take the lumps (losses) from B10 TackleBall® OR build your roster around, and play that ugly style of basketball.

2024 (F) Kanon Catchings and Whatever
pumpfake replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I believe former NBA player Harvey Catchings is in that lineage as well. -
Very possible. Hopefully he will be able to participate fully in off-season activities (no injuries or surgerys).

Quite interesting thoughts. As has been said by others, if you're a HS recruit and think you want to commit it might be smart to make your decision rather than playing the "string things out" game. It may not apply to top-20 recruits, but 4 stars ranked outside the top 50 might want to think about it.

Get old, stay old. lol

Now this dude intrigues me, primarily as a project player. I kind of like the idea of reserving a roster spot for a project - that's how I saw Duncomb in his two seasons here. In this case we're talking about a player who's starting outwith some bonafides (proven college skill and experience). Obviously it would depend on the staff's interest and role in/for him and his interest and expectations. Still, quite interesting IMO. Also, he could be the foreign contributor I've been asking for for so long.

Years ago on some IU forum (indystar?) there was a poster with one of the best usernames ever: HandsofBlab. lol

Indeed. And further complicated by possible NBA departures.

Yes. And when your recruiting "wins" are one-and-dones it's ultimately much worse (IMO).

Coaching Changes Nationally

Made me think. Who's the best ND player from the state of IN? I don't believe any of their greats were from Indiana (Carr, Shumate, Dantley, Tripuka). Maybe Ken Barlowe? ND all century BB list. -
Don Fischer: The Voice of College Sports
pumpfake replied to HoosierHoops1's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I do everything I can to watch the televised games with Fisch's call sync'ed up. He's had some good (and some not-so-good) broadcast partners but always makes it better than TV. He's the perfect balance of being objective/homer, IMO. BTW, regarding WHCC: be warned that if there is a broadcasting conflict they usually give priority to the WBB game. I listen to WXVW out of Louisville (via tunein) in that situation. -

How would he look as a plug-in replacement for Kopp? -
IUBB @ Michigan State - Tuesday, 2/21/23 @ 9:00 on ESPN
pumpfake replied to OliviaPope40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I hope & believe this is correct. The "window of opportunity" has been wide open this season for a handful of players and they refused to step up. In the NBA they don't wait multiple seasons for a player to get their act together, and this program is supposedly modeled after pro teams, so CMW and staff need to be busy after this season concludes. -

He's referring to Tyra Buss who is engaged/married to Brad Davidson. Was at a WI vs IU game rooting for WI shamelessly. -

Well, it'll be interesting when the expansion takes place. Maybe two divisions - play twice against the in division foes and once against the other division teams? -

Yeah, that half should put to rest the myth that the more aggressive team gets the calls.
