Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets
bnkepner replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So far SMU, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas are being mentioned but I haven't heard that IU has expressed any interest so far. -

Its not even close. Cubs haven't had a winning season since 08'. IU has had three winning seasons in a row. If IU had as dismal record as the Cubs then yes I could see your point. But comparing teams at two different ends of the spectrum doesn't make sense. If a team has a few winning seasons in a row, a coaching change is not expected. When you are the Cubs and you haven't been relevant in years, a coaching change could be expected yearly. I not saying picking and choosing situations but bringing up a situation with a team that hasn't had even a .500 record since 08' and a team that has been above .500 for at least three years in a row is way different. Not even close -

They got that idea from the Pacers, they've used it several times with free agents -

Hard to compare any team to the Cubs…they haven't had a winning record since 2008 so its pretty obvious that they would have a coaching change... -
Why didn't we go further than the sweet 16 in 2012-13? haha

It's a slow day on btown banners when this discussion gets brought up for the 1,000th time haha.

I mean I don't know for sure, but right now the only "rumors" we are hearing are weak. All these articles have stated is that Crean is in a bit of hot water, Stevens is from Indiana, and there might be a future possibility of him coming to coach. Thats not a super strong rumor and is just stating the obvious that everyone has know about for awhile. If it came out that Stevens was even close to being unhappy in Boston or that upper management in Boston was putting pressure on him to win now, Id give all these rumors a little more attention, but the fact is there people are grabbing ahold of nothing right now -

Its also important to remember that when he was brought in by the Celtics, they were bad, and have since continued getting rid of the talent on their roster. They upper management (along with many other NBA teams) has no plans to be very competitive in the upcoming few years, so that loosens the leash on Stevens and makes it a no pressure situation for him in the NBA -

Well of course he isn't going to come out and say he's interested. And there hasn't even been the smallest whisper through back channels or anything. The thing is how can he be interested at all when there is nothing to be interested in. There is no open coaching position. Crean is the coach now and for the foreseeable future right now. -

I think everyone ignores the fact that Stevens is happy in the NBA and has not said anything about going back to college ball. It's all a huge rumor. Just because the Boston Globe wrote about it doesn't mean a thing. They just mentioned that IU could be interested. Nothing more. If they had quotes from people or even if Stevens came out and said he would be interested, there would be something to talk about. THis is a non story -

Someone posted a similar article from the Indy Star in another thread earlier today. I think its pure speculation. Hence this paragraph from the article; "Stevens has never even discussed returning to college coaching, and NBA sources said he is totally invested in the Celtics. He wants to restore the organization to a contender and also has four more years on his contract. The organization made a sizable investment in his talents." I just don't see him leaving that money anytime soon -
IUBB vs. Eastern Washington Post Game Thread
bnkepner replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
At this point our loss to EWU doesn't look nearly as bad as losses by Michigan, Nebraska, etc to cupcakes -
I'm not too worried about Butler, they weren't good last year. They beat UNC this year (who are also terrible) but thats about it. On the Stevens story, I like the success that Stevens had with Butler, but I honestly see it being very hard to lure him away from the Celtics. Money talks. He has it easy in the NBA because the Celtics were terrible when he took over and there are no real expectations of success so he can have a terrible team and not get much heat over it. The article is making something big out of basically nothing. I don't think Boston is all that worried.
-
Completely agree. He is one of the few commentators that actually knows what he is talking about and is actually teaching about the game when he is calling it. That rarely happens anymore. Wish they had him calling more games. Speaking of commentators, the ones during the IU game were terrible yesterday!!
-
His body language just looks like Hollowell's to me. No expression (except when he shoved Holt during a timeout of the Louisville game). Im all for supporting players on the team but its frustrating that he is still playing cause he doesn't really add anything.
-
So this thread officially has nothing to do with Jaquan Lyle? hahah
-
I think coming into this year there were just a few teams that were super overrated in the BIg Ten. Michigan and Nebraska lead the pack as overrated. I think IU finishes in the top five if we can stay confident and shoot the ball well
-
Well a couple of these games against teams in the 300s were scheduled to give guys a chacne to come back to IU (Mike Davis and Pat Knight) but you are right. Id honestly like to see us just play more teams in IN and area teams during the preseason. Do away with the crossroads classic and just play Butler and Notre Dame each year. Take away some of the teams we've been playing and plug in Ball St, Xavier, Dayton, University of Ohio, Valpo, etc. They aren't huge opponents but they are at least local teams and would be more competition than Grand Canyon
-
Stan hit free throws? wow. All joking aside he has turned into this years Jeremy Hollowell. He looks bored out there, he doesn't seem to try and when he gets to the rim he just seems to find the most awkward way to just throw the ball at the rim, but then again so does Troy. I don't really think it has anything to do with confidence. I just honestly think he's not that good. He can play decent D but thats it. He can drive to the bucket well, but lacks control and can't finish. Cant shoot period. He doesn't bring much to the table
-
Its not like we are the only ones. Look at all the top teams, they play tons of cupcakes. Wisconsin plays a tons of cupcakes as well. They even it out maybe by playing Duke or someone else. Take Lousiville. They have a worse SOS than we do
-
Gotta love Hartman's hustle but his D might be the worst out of the bunch. He is a victim of over helping on every play. I am tired of seeing him running a full sprint to his wide open man on the other side of the court and running by him. He doesn't put his hands up. Also Stan Robinson honestly adds nothing to this team. We are up by double digits but we aren't looking too great
-
I couldn't agree more. Probably should at Kansas to the list Alex Bozich @insidethehall:UNC has to be one of the most disappointing teams in the country. Ton of talent, but always getting out worked.

Using opposing fans' comments as truth doesn't sound like a sound source of info. Besides the IHSAA is always checking these things. They wouldn't be able to play sports if they had just done homeschooling where they did no work, etc. Its against the law because even homeschooled kids and their teachers have to report grades, etc to the state as well. There is simply no logic to them just goofing off for two years and then enrolling with grade levels a few years behind. Opposing fans can make up anything to justify getting beat by these kids year after year haha
