Yeah when recruiting started to center on AAU and summer tournaments, he never really adjusted. He didn't like competing for players, he wanted players to come to him to play at IU.

Yeah too bad he has never had any interest in becoming a Hoosier -

Wasn't snarky at all. Maybe you took it that way, but it wasn't my intent. I'm just saying of course the kid looked like a beast when playing against local talent at a YMCA. I frequently go to the rec center at Ball St and there are tons of kids that hardly got college offers that dominate and put on a dunk fest during rec games, but you have to take into account the context of the games -
A few years back they asked Knight what his biggest regret was as a coach and he said not recruiting nationally was his biggest regret. He said he concentrated too much on the midwest and never too initiative to travel across the country too much to recruit. Interesting
-
I always try to find stories about those big time recruits that Knight missed out on. Anyone have any stories about Knight recruiting Glenn Robinson, James Blackmon Sr, Kyle Macy, etc?
-
It would be interesting to go back and make a list of recruits that Knight "missed" on. For example Shawn Kemp is a good example of someone Knight recruited for years and just couldnt convince him to come to IU
-
Any links to articles or anything? I couldnt find anything out there regarding this situation. Most sites are still picking him to go to UCLA

Thats not all the kids, thats one player. I think the rest are pretty high on IU. Scruggs did say UK was his favorite team but has continued to take unofficial visits to IU even after he stated that. He is getting no love from UK so far. -
Thank goodness for that! I wouldn't have been able to stand having him as a coach

On the 2002 Team only Jefferies, Coverdale. Odle and Ryan Tapak were from Indiana, unless you are counting walk ons that weren't listed on the official roster. ( Thats 4) I did miss the last one so they did have 3 on the 87 team but that still isn't a team "full" of Indiana kids like the original poster stated. Also you must have missed what I said about 90s team cause I already acknowledged that they were full of Indiana kids. But who's counting (or reading the posts haha)
-
No he kept sayings "Thats not right" over and over, which was in reference to the foul on Hanner. But he also for sure said "Shut up" to Miles as well. I have no problem with it. In fact I love that Crean acted the way he did
-
The 87 team only had two kids from Indiana The 02 teams had only 4 kids from Indiana ( one being a walk on). The 90s teams were a lot more of Indiana kids though

So we are now judging recruits based on how they do in local YMCAs? Solid. -
IU vs Nebraska Post Game Thread
bnkepner replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Rolled his left ankle on the layup but he did come in and play after that so I think he's fine. He didn't have a huge amount of playing time in the second half simply because Hanner played like a beast. -
IU vs Nebraska Post Game Thread

If you look really closely he rolled he left ankle when he went up for the layup -
I agree to the overall sentiment of this thread. Im getting tired of "fans" who are rooting against the team or Crean. If you like the team, support them. If you don't like the coach or someone on the team, don't watch. Its that simple. I hate that on this board if you support the team you are somehow supportive of mediocrity. Thats not how it is at all. Me, for example, Ive watched this team since I was a kid. I watched and supported IU under Knight, under Davis, under Sampson, and now under Crean. I will support the team no matter what. Yes I want them to do their best and to win championships and I want them to return to that elite status. So I keep rooting for them and keep supporting them But yes Ive heard lots of "fans" who are basically rooting against our squad and against Crean. Its tiring and annoying at this point. I understand people don't agree with some of the players or Crean. I don't necessarily agree with everything Crean does but it gets to point I just support the team cause its something I enjoy. If you don't enjoy watching the team then you should just go do something else with your life. No need to ruin it for others

Yeah I didn't see Bucks post. I grew up with Knight as the coach, but he wasn't perfect in his coaching.

Elite Indiana talent has always left the state and gone to different schools...

Wrong 1971-72 - NIT 1972-1973 CCAT tournament (no NCAA invite) 1976-1977 No postseason play 1984-1985 NIT And there were a few years where they finished middle of the pack or lower in the Big Ten under Knight
-
Yeah it was a classic example of a game in which I wish both teams couldve lost

Stanford Robinson's Role
bnkepner replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He got a few lucky rolls tonight, but he scares me when he gets the ball. His shot still looks horrid. Now I think when he gets the ball he can't decide if he is going to shoot with his right or left. -
I still don't understand how Miles didn't get a T. He FLIPPED a lid. Im glad Crean made his opinion known because Nebraska manhandled us the entire game and we got no calls
-
I actually thought Miles tried to get out of the handshake as fast as he could. Crean actually stopped and Miles kept walking by.

Is IU currently reaching out to Brad Stevens through back channels?
bnkepner replied to southernindianahoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Okay you have used the same two examples used hundreds of times by others on here. Those are two examples that support your argument but there are other examples of coaches who said they wanted to stay where they were, and they stayed...
