(2015) PG Jamal Murray to UK
bnkepner replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Ive seen lots of videos of this kid and he is a great point guard with a really good shot. -
Top college basketball players would probably just starting get overseas more often and going straight to the D league

Vijay Blackmon - Valpo U Strength & Conditioning Coach
bnkepner replied to JSHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
He is not even close to JBJ in high school. Ive seen him play multiple times and he does score a lot but Marion is not good and doesn't really play anyone outside of their conference. Vijay will be a rotation guy at whatever school he ends up at. -
The holes in this roster are baffling
bnkepner replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No matter what people say. He's right. Its hard to recruit dominant big men. There aren't a lot of them out there and a lot of them end up going to the same place (Kentucky, Lousiville, Duke). People on this site sometimes act like all you have to do is call a recruit at the last minute and he will magically sign with us. -
Thats what is funny to me. Last year we were picked to be a bad team…we were. This year we were picked to finish towards the bottom of the big ten and we are at least at middle of the pack. What do people expect?
-
Not hating but as the season has gone on he hasn't proved as valuable. He was for the first few games he played in the post but in the games since hasn't made such an impact. He gives it his all and I give him credit for that but if we had another big man, theres no way Hartman sees the floor. Him playing out of position on D is all on Crean. But him playing scared and not within his game on offense is all on him. JBJ and Troy not showing up mentally for a handful of games is also on them as well
-
No, sounds too much like an excuse honestly
-
He is on the wing in the offense and can't do a thing most games
-
WEll on defense Ill give him the that but on offense he doesn't contribute at all. The last handful of games he looks too scared to shoot and he tries to drive and loses the ball. When he is in on offense we are down a man. Same could be said for Stan and Max and a few others when they are in the game

Skipping College for Oversea's Leagues
bnkepner replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Not really a trend. I think the media has made it more into a trend then it actually is. Brandon Jennings did it for a year and has been up and down in the NBA. Emmanuel Mudiay went to China, got hurt, and got released. Plus leagues outside of Europe aren't much competition at all. Players are going to get paid big by clubs from small leagues around the world but they aren't going to face a high level of competition and they have no guarantee if they get hurt (Mudiay). -
This year has been a let down from most players not named Yogi Ferrell. I thought this year would be the end of him constantly putting the team on his back but hardly anyone else is reliable. Troy, Rob, JBJ, and everyone else has a good game and then disappear for a few games. In a game like this year have to make the rest of the team beat you. Let Hammons get his points but shut down the rest of the squad. Stan should not play, Hartman should get less minutes (adds nothing on offense ala Etherington), and Max Hoetzel should not be playing.

The fans aren't going to the games?
bnkepner replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Mediocre? Laughable. At least 5 Big Ten teams will still make it this year -
I looked through all the recent mock drafts and out of the three players Yogi is listed twice at the middle to end of the second round. Troy isn't even listed as a second round pick in any of the mocks and neither is JBJ. No one leaves early because they are being projected as a second round pick, especially towards the end of the second round. I don't see Yogi's stock going up that much more this year unless he and the team go nuts in the tourney and we win a championship. Its just not realistic honestly. Troy and JBJ just have too much to work on

The Big Ten may not have tons of big named players this year but I think it is just as competitive as it always has been. Last year only 6 teams finished at or above .500 and this year there are 8 teams at or above .500 so I would say the Big Ten is just as good as it has been in the past. Just as competitive. -
And they've all been in that same spot more or less all year long they haven't been climbing draft boards. If anything Troy and JBJ have fallen spots. They are all staying

Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets
bnkepner replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We definitely dodged a HUGE bullet when Isaiah Whitehead chose Seton Hall over IU. Sounds like he is nothing but trouble and singlehandedly destroying the locker room situation at Seton Hall. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/16/report-racial-tension-isaiah-whiteheads-posse-caused-rift-at-seton-hall/ -
Something I will never understand this year is how UNC is still ranked. They have continually lost but have only dropped a few spots here and there. Proves that when the media loves a team it doesn't matter if they W or L.

(2018) SF Kevin Easley Jr.
bnkepner replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Pretty crazy that kids commit that early, but if we learned anything from Lyles and JBJ is that kids will always end up testing the waters. -

I might be alone on this one but I think its crazy that a kid graduating in 2018 already has a highlight tape out and everything. Putting lots of pressure on these kids already -
I think Crean met him because he had heard he was a big IU fan who was suffering from ALS and Crean made the trip to visit him. On Inside the Hall it said he was from Bloomington and him and his family have always been big IU fans. for as much crap as people give Crean, this was a terrific act. Crean didn't do this for media coverage or anything. He did it because he is a nice guy. He may have his quirks but when it comes down to it, he cares about the players, the fans, and the legacy of IU.

Definitely a lot of room to grow, but he seems to lack confidence, which is key. He has put up some big numbers in games but they haven't been too impactful. He doesn't demand the ball enough. I think his best bet would be to end up at Butler, which I definitely think he can. He has great athleticism but Id much rather see us get Wilkes, Scruggs, and Gunn out of the 2017 class -

As much as I like watching him play, I don't see him being IU material really. He's been on multiple unofficial visits but he is being recruited heavily by IUPUI, Dayton, and those types of schools and thats where I think he ultimately ends up -

Yeah the youngest Penny boy is going to be a freshman next year and he is supposedly the best basketball player out of the family. He can shoot and drive. And Ive heard he isn't lazy like the rest of the family. -
NCAA Considering Freshman Ineligibility
bnkepner replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Rookie contracts don't fall under anything to do with the players union or CBA from what Ive read so the age players came in wouldn't affect other players in any way shape or form
