Archie Miller's staff at Indiana will be Bruiser Flint, Tom Ostrom (Dayton) and Ed Schilling (UCLA),
bnkepner replied to opiej's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Rob Johnson rolled an ankle, OG blew out a knee on a non contact play (freak accident), Juwan's shoulder injury was a high school injury and then he rolled an ankle when he tripped on a ref this year. JBJ and Hartman had previous knee injuries in high school that have continued into college. Sorry but I still don't see how any of those seem like fault of a strength or conditioning coach or lack of conditioning. -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
bnkepner replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
After the last few weeks of rumors and people "confirming" this and that. I don't know if all these different people and insiders are as tied in as we are all lead to believe. I'll wait for the actual announcement with Hartman cause I think he's probably gone -
I remember when I used to look forward to the NBA all star game and the McDonalds All American game and now its been years since Ive watched either one. They just aren't entertaining to me. Its a glorified pickup game and gets boring really fast.

One of the beat writers or someone on here shared an article on Archie and Sean recruiting at U of Arizona and their philosophy there wasn't too far off. They concentrated on their region 1 st in all recruiting so here won't be too different honestly. I think he gets that IU has lost influence and any sway in the state. Seemed to hint at Crean expecting things because "Its Indiana". Miller is going to work. I don't think his inside out philosophy means he ignores national recruiting but when you have the recruiting budget that we do, but aren't getting classes that reflect that budget there is a problem. Especially if in the immediate area we have so many high level recruits, we should be getting a good amount of them each year

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
bnkepner replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I honestly think all we lose are OG and Hartman. Archie doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to be kicking people off the team unless there are issues with them. Gelon and Priller seem to be hard workers, so Archie will keep them around I assume. If Dayton hires one of their staff members as the head coach, McKinley Wright won’t even leave Dayton. No one from our staff has even talked to him either because he is signed. I think Archie zero’s in on Durham and Moore before anyone else. I think Durham ends up here. Moore is the wildcard here because the list of schools interested in him is pretty big. Villanova and Virginia are two of those. I don’t see us having a mass exodus this year at all. Archie has hit the ground running working hard so I think he will be able to convince a lot of players to stay. Those who stay will buy in and be ready to work and Archie will fill out the rest of the roster with those who want to compete. -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

One of my favorite quotes from Remember the Titans applies perfectly to this situation " Attitude reflects leadership". Theres a reason why both Johnson and Blackmon Jr were rumored to be transferring if Crean were to return as coach. Johnson has been our best defender in the past and Blackmon Jr is our best scorer. Archie seems to be one of those coaches that gets the most out of his players and I think we will see a different version of some of the players than they were under Crean. -
Where would we be if: Mike Davis had not gone on the 2002 Miracle Run
bnkepner replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Many people have great memories of the 70s,80, and 90s team but my favorite IU basketball memories are that 2002 run. I was 11 years old when that took place and it got me hooked to Indiana basketball for the rest of my life. I do think the administration was too quick to give Davis such a long extension right off the bat. I do wonder what would've happened if they had brought someone else in from the start. If Davis or Treloar were retained as head coach all the players said they would leave. That would've set us back a few years for sure. I do look at all the players that were missed during those Davis years and wonder if Alford would've been given the job if he would've gotten them to come to IU. Oden and Conley are of course the two big ones. Davis told Mike Conley that he was never going to be a big time college point guard and Oden always made it clear he was going to follow Conley. What could have been. -
Alarming? That seems a little much. Care to provide more info? I researched this topic this morning and only found two incidents during Archie's span there. Two Dayton players were arrested for burglary on Dec 14th, they were kicked off the team the very next day on the 15th. The other had to deal with a player that was Dyshawn Pierre. He was accused of rape but after an investigation, no evidence was found and all charges were dropped. The university had kicked him out and he was recently going through the process of getting reinstated to the team. In the first case, not sure what else he could've done. He acted as swiftly as anyone could have. Granted he recruited those kids, but college coaches don't spend 24/7 around incoming recruits so they don't know them perfectly. He seemed to have handled the situation a lot better than FCTC did with the the year or two of issues we had a few years ago. Point me to a coach and a program that has not had players get in some sort of trouble. I think this is a non issue with Archie and definitely don't see it as "alarming"

#IHSAA Boys/Girls State Tournament

There was a pretty bad no call on the inbounds at the very end of the game. Sad to see the game finish that way -
Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Tony Bennett (University of Virginia)
bnkepner replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Also 2018 G Robert Phinisee is really big on Bennett and Virginia -
I like him. He recruits the Midwest well and gets a lot out of his players. I have a hard time believing he leaves Xavier though. When asked about the IU job the other day he seemed pretty set on Xavier. He said something to the extent of he is from Cincinnati, he's a Xavier grad and they compete in the conference of last years national champs so he has it good where he is at.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Tony Bennett (University of Virginia)
bnkepner replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If Bennett would take the job now, I'd pull the trigger. -
Then they should stop talking about it. Literally the only person making a huge deal out of this was Dakich talking to Katz and now Katz has spread it all over ESPN the last few days. ESPN is the main source that won't drop the Alford to IU talk
-
No, he has said all along that Alford and his camp are very interested in the job. He never said anything about IU being mutually interested in Alford
-
If its true then Im guessing the trustees and donors are the ones calling for the Alford hire
-
If things don't work out with Stevens or Donovan, I'd almost make more of a run at Holtman from Butler than anyone else. He recruits the area and the state really well and has his teams competing.

This season was so bad Purdue had a better record

****Rabjohns post was the opinion of two people he talked to. Later on in the same thread Rabjohns clarified that it was only opinion and not official
-
The buyout is not a one time large sum of money. Its negotiated out over a schedule of years as far as Ive read
-
Rabjohns has not tweeted anything out
-
Except now its been reported on 247 that Rabjohns' sources said it was just their opinion that Crean is back. Nothing confirmed, hence why Rabjohns hasn't tweeted anything out
-
I never once for a second believed that Crean would step down on his own. He is too prideful to do that. The only way he goes is if he is fired.
-
All signs point to IU playing in the NIT so Im really not expecting anything until after we are out of the NIT honestly.

Care to share please??

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)

Besides coming off as creepy what did Crean do to alienate Indiana H.S. coaches? Theres been a definite disconnect and difference with in state recruiting since Lyles decomited
