Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!
bnkepner replied to HoosierSadaseci's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah he did. Not a great career though. Kirk Haston also left early and got hurt after a few years(he would've been a senior the year we went to the championship game). Bracey Wright left early and didn't really play much at all in the NBA, but has had a long career in Europe. -
I never put much into the rumors that were circling anyways

Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!

Besides Oladipo and Zeller, IU players don't have a history of leaving school early and being successful in the NBA. -
OT but what about Xavier's coach. It seems that no matter when they lose a coach, they always get a coach that can get the most out of his team. I think he could be a great option or IU but I don't know too much about him

I agree 100%. AAU coaching and wanting to be on Sportscenter. We have two players that seem to suffer from SportsCenter fever on our squad. They would rather make a big highlight play than play fundamentally sound. Sadly I dont think it will ever change here in the US. All the while in Europe they preach fundamentals and coaches who run European style schemes and teams continue to have lots of success in the college game and in the pros.

That was Webber. I don't understand why he kept pronouncing it that way while the other two pronounced it normal the whole game. Webber did only stay in college for two years though, and probably didn't go to class much. That was almost as bad as announcers all year trying to pronounce "Hanner Mosquera-Perea" all year.

Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets

Great job recruiting IUs recruits. Thats why Izzo wants Crean to stay at IU. Crean works hard to find some of these recruits and Izzo swoops in at the last minute to nab them -
Is there a such thing as shooting midrange jump shots in college basketball?
bnkepner replied to dfish1's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you watch some of the great scorers in college basketball, they still use it. Ive followed BYU for years and Tyler Haws from BYU is one of the only ones to still make great use of the midrange game. -
Not just a problem here. Its a problem all over college basketball. I just don't see role players being that big of a senior leader.
-
I could see April going there. Buckley was the lead on Priller I thought
-
Except most of the players involved last off season's off court issues were the ones recruited by Johnson...
-
Also important to remember that Remy wanted to transfer so Crean did all the paperwork side of things for it then a week or two later Remy came back saying he changed his mind and wanted to be back on the team, but all the documents and paperwork had already been filed with the NCAA. People can make Crean the villain and say he is "Creaning" player but individual players are also young kids who make knee jerk decisions as well.

Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets

It seemed like the Austin Etherington that was scared to shoot the ball and just didn't have "it" athletically here at IU wasn't a fluke cause he seemed the same way at Butler. He got about the same amount of playing time at Butler this year as he did at IU last year and had the same level of production (not much) -
Davis and Sampson may have ran more of a motion offense, but they definitely used the weave at the top of the key
-
Well we don't "ship" guys to the NBA. As far as clearing space for incoming players? I'll take OG and Juwan Morgan over April and Priller. If anyone wants to keep them instead of bringing in better players..thats part of the problem with the program.

OT: Scoring in college basketball
bnkepner replied to sirhoosierlot's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Too many small touch fouls are called. Small little fouls that have nothing to do with the game. Or little fouls away from the ball. Its annoying, slows down the game, and doesn't serve a purpose -
I've noticed more and more during the tournament that the higher seeds are getting a lot of calls. The end of the game between Lousiville and UC Irvine was a great example. This UK game is also another example

How many more wins does a healthy Devin Davis get?
bnkepner replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As someone noted, his on court attitude may have helped but his off court attitude was probably also part of the problem. People seem to forget that he was the one intoxicated that ran out into oncoming traffic... I hope he has also learned his lesson and he helps us out next year. He seems to be progressing well -
We should have been doing that for JBJ, Zeisloft, and even Hoetzel all year long. The screens that get set in our "offense" don't accomplish anything. There is a wide open pick and roll every time we set a screen and Ive only seen us run that maybe once or twice since Crean has been here.
-
I think Ive seen every team in college basketball do all of the above. Just look at IU. Mike Davis, Sampson, and Crean…every one used the weave at the top.
-
Curious to see how this changes things though. If you watch the games and videos from practice, McClain is doing his fair share of actually coaching the team. I think with Crean and his staff Crean may be the head coach but the "coaching" duties are pretty evenly spread out between Crean, McClain, and Buckley

Is IU Content to be Little Engine that Could?
bnkepner replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think Glass, Crean, and the majority of admins and staff at IU are completely fine with us being middle of the road. Most of them were not around when IU was a consistent winner. I barely even remember that time. I was born in 1990 so I was old enough to watch their run to the tourney in 2001-02 but even after that they weren't consistent. We had a nice year or two with Cody, Watford, Hulls, etc. but we haven't had a winning attitude in years and I think the university is fine with that sadly. I don't see them doing anything about Crean until next year when we are in the same boat all over again -
Crean has been talking up his assistant coaches for a long time. He was very vocal that he thought they deserved to be head coaches so it isn't a surprise that McClain is moving on. To those saying why UIC..who cares? If he wants to be a head coach, he was probably looking for a nice place to start fresh and build a program from the bottom up
