(2023) - C Xavier Booker to Michigan State

I thought his shouting match with Filipowski was his Kyrie moment? -
2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Previously, I would have agreed with you. Now, with the NIL, I don't think it is nearly as far fetched. I could easily see deals being worked out to exceed the value of his scholarship and current NIL deals. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is likely but it is much more so than the pre-NIL days. -

Although the Student Bill of Rights was undoubtedly used as a PR push to counteract the perception of kicking underperforming players to the curb, it was never really a very likely option for healthy players that were capable of playing elsewhere. It also had more than a bit to do with injured football players saying they were being forced to play and something similar in one of the women's team sports around that time as well. -

I could see LD deciding to move on if TJD returns, especially after adding Reneau. However, your description of him fits the vast majority of non 5 star freshman bigs going to high major schools. It fits plenty of 5 star freshman bigs too. -
2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Experience says it will likely be someone relatively few of us want to lose. Kopp actually makes the most sense to me. To be clear I like him better than many but with only one year left and the prospect of falling far down the depth chart, I could see him being persuaded to move on. I think JG is the most likely to leave though, unfortunately. -

Maybe, maybe not. Either way running Leal off is still really shortsighted and not the most likely scenario. I don't really care where recruits come from as long as they buy in but eventually Woody is going to want and need top talent from Indiana regardless of where else he's getting recruits. Overlooking talent close to home because he's having success elsewhere is again shortsighted. It's not all or nothing. -

I doubt the cheerleading squad will help all that much if the coaching staff burns bridges with Indiana high school coaches by running players like Leal off. There's a balance that must be maintained between doing anything/everything to win and taking care of players. I do wonder though if Leal would end up coming out way ahead with NIL deals if he decided to pay his own way. I don't think that is even remotely likely and I'm not sure it is even possible either. -
Adding one player is not likely to improve our three point shooting that much, especially considering the available players and that they would be replacing our best 3 point shooter by percentage from last season. Replacing one of our worst defenders with a great defender on the other hand...

The only way to get the coaches to change, is to change the way the games are officiated. No coach is going to voluntarily change what they believe is the playing style that gives them the best chance to win.

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
hoosierbgh replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If an opponent wants to chase fools gold, then I would not only let him but encourage it. A reasonably competent defensive big is sufficient. All they really need to be able to do is rebound and make the opposing big work for his points. Rim protection is a nice bonus. Strong perimeter defense also goes a long way to nullifying even the most dominant offensive bigs. -
Adding a player that has the strong potential to move the team up several spots in the national defense ranking would have a far more positive impact on winning than adding a player that shoots a few percentage points better from 3. Also, if TJD leaves along with his shot blocking/altering ability, a strong perimeter defender will help make his departure less of a step back. Besides, there are 3 routes to improving the shooters on a team, it doesn't make much sense to focus exclusively on only one of them, especially one that is relatively high effort low reward.

Yes, Edey could be unguardable at times but far more often, especially late in the season, he was unplayable a lot of time. Once teams figured out how to deal with Purdue and Edey, it was always Williams that was in at the end of the game in close games. Edey has a long, long way to go before he can carry a team. He has a long way to go before he is more than simply a huge physical mismatch. Purdue should be real strong in the forward positions but without significant upgrades in the guard spots, that's going to be of limited use. I don't see their defense improving enough to help much either.

Trying to emulate Michigan's schedule, which you brought up, would be a knee jerk in my opinion though I'm not suggesting that is what you were advocating for. Complaining about just the possibility of adding Bellarmine to the schedule is pretty knee jerk too.
-
Michigan's path is not one I would bet on working every year, more often than not that record leaves them on the outside looking in. While IU needs to improve the non-con SOS there is absolutely no reason to knee jerk to the other extreme.
-
The gifts are continuing Purdue's way early in the second half too.
-
With that kind of track record he could be the next head coach in waiting if only he'd played at IU.
-
How is that even possible, Woody doesn't listen to anyone except NBA guys? That the Cupps family made the drive to Bloomington says a lot about them and the job Walsh did. Finding and then sticking to his guns about Gabe says even more positive things about Brian.

(2022) PG Adou Thiero to Kentucky

Shortly after the next player leaves IU opening a spot? -
Technically, I think he said something far less friendly prior to throwing the punch the last time.

No, somebody must be at fault and the sky must be falling always! Those are the rules and there can be no exceptions.

Sounds like a good plan... but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Admittedly, I preferred Lewis over Fife originally, but bottom line is he didn't produce any noticeable benefit for the team and teams cannot afford to have an AC that doesn't provide something of major value.

IU vs St Mary’s - Thursday: NCAA Round of 64- 7:20 pm ET on TBS

LOL. Really? I must have missed all the games where IU played like this. All the games where they couldn't make even the bunnies, couldn't get a loose ball or rebound, or guard a stationary chair. Whatever it takes to deny the obvious and continue the tantrum. -

I mean we could assume IU completely forgot how to play, the coaches can't coach at all, or that Saint Mary's is better than every BIG team and half the NBA. Anything I guess to avoid acknowledging the obvious. -

I'm satisfied with the season but I want to see TJD play like he's been playing for as many games as possible. It's not often these last few decades that we've been able to watch an IU player as dominant as he's been these last 5 games and I want that to continue as long as possible.
