This is one of the weirdest meltdowns I can remember this board having in awhile lol.

I’m pretty confident in Woodson’s ability to handle primadonnas after coaching in the NBA for so long.

Jamison Battle - Minnesota Transfer to Ohio State
Hoosier Roots replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Why do you want him at the 4? I didn’t watch much of the spectacular 2022-23 Minnesota season but from highlights he looks like he has a skill set perfect to replace Kopp at the 3. -
How far away is IUBB from being elite again?
Hoosier Roots replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think we just need to string together a handful of solid seasons and become a consistently good program first. If we can reliably finish in the top 3rd of the Big Ten and as a <=7 seed each year even during down and bridge seasons, that will do a lot to help the perception of the program. Some decent tourney success would go miles too. Our best seasons over the past decade have been followed up by absolutely soul crushing disappointments and that can’t happen. We don’t need to be a #1 or #2 seed every year to be on the right path, but we can’t go from being a top team to missing the NIT like under Crean, or let what ever was going on under Archie happen again. Or maybe we will just start recruiting like 2010 Kentucky every year and become elite over night idk. -
Indiana Players Now In The Portal

I don’t know about that. I’m not sure what his shooting percentage was the last handful of games but I doubt it was above single digits. He took a lot of bad shots that were out of the offensive rhythm but on top of that he was also just straight up missing layups. Not sure what happened to him towards the end of the season but you could tell he was trying hard to force something that just wasn’t happening. -

Always thought it was weird that they both ended up at purdoo

He’s gone and he should be gone. If im JHS a big part of me would want another shot at the tournament after going out like that and as a fan I definitely want him to return to IU, but anyone who has JHS best interests in mind should be telling him to go to the NBA and further his career. Lucky for us however, players leaving for the NBA isn’t a zero sum game. There’s a lot of value for the program in bringing in a good recruit not really on anyone’s draft radar and turning him into an expected borderline lottery pick. Hopefully his time here will pay dividends in recruiting.

I hope you’re just talking about offensive development lol
-
That is… interesting
-
Absolutely, someone needs to do it and with the resources IU has devoted to basketball it might as well be us. I think part of the reason the Big Ten has become so pigeonholed into a slow brooding unathletic style of basketball is because it’s the only style of basketball most of the conference can hope to produce at a high level. Our reputation seems to have scared away a lot of other types of players and turned into a self fulfilling prophecy. Penn st. had the right idea this season switching to a style of basketball that can succeed in the post season but I think they likely hit their ceiling. Someone else like MSU, UM, or IU will have to take the lead and hopefully it will be us.

Picking cincy because of academics is… odd. Has anyone let him know Michigan, Notre Dame and Northwestern are also close by lol? -
Is it just me or a lot of teams in this tournament really overestimating their 3 point shooting ability?
-
Wow Auburn just absolutely choking this one away. They could be going toe to toe with Houston right now if they could just hit their free throws. On the flip side, Houston looks very beatable.

Fully expecting every B10 player to foul out Thursday and Friday after the way this Pitt Miss st game has been called

I believe they played tough defense but either Houston had a fluke shooting night or they channeled the spirit of the 2004 pistons for that game -

I hate the matchup against a small ball mid-major led by a senior guard with a Name like Sincere Carry but I think the hype around Kent state is really being overdone. They’re 1-3 against tournament teams with the only win coming against 16 seed northern Kentucky. They lost to 12 seed Charleston, Gonzaga, and Houston. Everyone keeps pointing to that Houston game as an example of how good Kent st. can be but I think that game was a product of Houston just playing their worst offense of the year more so than greatness from Kent st. I’m my opinion it will take some pretty bad basketball from us to lose this game. -
I think this kid got confused by hanging out with too many SEC football players and just assumed skipping the post season when you’re not a natty favorite was a basketball thing too.
-
Absolutely baseless speculation here but I am hoping and praying this kid decides he needs a bigger stage to show off his NBA potential (currently projected as a mid second rounder I think). He seems like the kind of athletic floor stretching big that the B1G has overall been missing.

IUBB @ Michigan - Saturday, 2/11/23 @ 6:00 on ESPN
Hoosier Roots replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
THATS A WIN BABY! Unbelievable that our last dub at Michigan was in 2016 with that 25pt 1st half run game. Wtf was Archie doing for 4 years to make us suck that bad?? -
(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland
Hoosier Roots replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I don’t don’t understand the appeal for Maryland. Who wants to go to a “basketball school” where the stadium Is half empty for conference games? -
In addition I feel like we are a fan base that leans into and feeds off of negativity much more than others. I know every fan base has this but there seems to be a large contingent of IU basketball fans that absolutely thrive off it. I get the impression that a lot of it comes from Knight’s coaching style and attitudes reinforcing this kind of behavior (I was born in 98, maybe I’m off there) but it’s incredibly annoying and unhelpful to the program. I’ve suspected that our annual mid season slumps are related to this and part of the reason why we have such a hard time breaking out of them. It seems like the venn diagram of our fans with with moral superiority complexes, that are completely out of touch with the program and CBB, and that are ridiculously negative and down beat towards the program is pretty close to a circle and they absolutely hurt the program. It’s how we end up with “Fans” writing Trayce to tell him that he’s horrible and doesn’t compare some star player from the 80s.
-
Is anyone else aggravated about how there are no big time matchups for the entire first week of the CBB season? It just does nothing to generate excitement for the sport compared to the hype that the first week of CFB gets with all the great games. The season should start off with some huge event with marquee teams like the old great Alaskan shootout or NIT Tournament, not all these diabetes inducing cupcake matchups. Seriously is there a reason for such a wimpy start?
