    Hey guys....

This team feels and looks like a Tom Crean style team, it's got his fingerprints all over it.  So I'm sure he is excited about what this group could potentially become.

    2014-2015 Season has officially begun!

St. Mary's was loaded with Aussie talent.  They still have that Aussie connection now.  They had a dude named Delladova that was real nice.  They had a nice team in the tourney a few years back when Ben Allen was a senior, i think they got to the Sweet 16.  I'd be satisfied if Tim Priller could develop into a player like Ben, offensively.  I'm pretty sure his skill level now as a player is pretty comparable to where Ben was as an 18 year old, size why they're already very similar.

    2014-2015 Season has officially begun!

The First player that comes to mind when thinking about Priller, aka Middle School Bob, lol, is former Hoosier Ben Allen.  He was a 6'10" Aussie that could stroke it and not rebound or dunk, but if used the right way, he could be effective.  He ended up transferring to St. Mary's and had a nice career.  Plays Pro ball now overseas.

    2014-2015 Season has officially begun!

It's funny because since the Team Picture came out this week I keep looking at it.  You know how players always seem to be listed taller than their actual height.  However, in looking at our team pic I think everything is pretty accurate, and the thing that I noticed immediately is Priller and April are freakin tall!  For some reason I was thinking that Tim Priller was about the same size as Max Hoetzel, but Tim looks to be a future 4 or 5 rather than a small forward.  he is very wide and tall and nearly as tall as Jeremiah April who is by far the tallest on the team.     Also, Max Hoetzel, Colin Hartman, Troy Williams, Emmitt Holt, and Devin Davis all seem to be around the same height.  Emmitt and Devin seem to be the same body size, and while Devin is built bigger than Emmitt, Emmit appears to be built like Devin was last year and fall into that tweener category or undersized power forward mold.  Nothing we haven't heard already.     Our guards all look very strong and we're loaded at that position, and assuming everyone stays healthy then our Front Court may just be better than we all thought.  We've definitely got some size, albeit it young, but legitimate size.  Go IU.

6'4" Guard Nick Zeisloft joins Hoosiers

I feel the same as you in many regards, and I am also worried about depth up front, however I'm really hoping that with so many guards we can really cause match up issues for opposing teams.  That and the hope that Hanner, Devin, Troy and Holt are enough to hold down the fort and create match up problems for other teams as well, and play defense without fouling a lot.

    2015 MAUI CLASSIC Thread

That would be a really fun trip to go to.  We won it back in 02-03 over Gonzaga. I can remember us going to the Great Alaskan Shootout too, back in the 90's.  Is that tournament still around?

(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU

I like Crean's recruiting abilities, and I also feel that he recruits good kids and a lot of them have even graduated with a Bachelors in 3 years.  That's impressive.  I just wish we had better balance with our classes and that occasionally we had a roster full of upperclassman that have played together for 3 plus years.

    Hoosier apparel

I've always had good luck at http://iuhoosiers.cbscollegestore.com/.  I sometime will go to Amazon and look around too.  On the Southside of Indy, I can find a decent amount of stuff out and about, too.

Do you think they're having second thoughts?

If I was a top notch College Coach, I would never leave my school to go to the NBA.  Don't get me wrong I love the NBA, and watch just as much as it as NCAA Ball, but it's such a different game.  The NBA Coaches seem so much different when you compare them to high level NCAA Coaches.  There are so many Head Coaches in the NBA that you've never heard of, and their shelf life is so small, but the top notch NCAA coaches seem to stay around at their location much more than the NBA Coach that could have been a video coordinator the year before and now all of a sudden he's a Coach.

Troy and I when he was 5. Troy and I now!!

Sorry Bro, you're right.  I was kinda lumping that in with my A Hole reference, but yes the majority of the disdain for Dakich from the IU faithful is the fact that he does way too many games of our's on ESPN, and most of the time he talks way too much and hates on IU.  I will say that when we were number 1 in the country he was not nearly as obnoxious, but we sucked pretty bad last year and most of his remarks were somewhat on base.

    Jeremiah April In Boot

Good Convo goin on fellas.  I see it from both perspectives.  Do I get sick of the constant negativity regarding Coach Crean?  Yep sure do.  Do I think that after 6 Seasons, Coach Crean should have gotten us in the tournament more than 2 times?  Yep, Roger That.  This is why I really feel that this year is so important.  Can you imagine if IU does not make the tournament this year in what will be year 7 of the Crean Era?  You think that seat is hot now, but man it will be on fire if we don't show major improvement from last year and make us Hoosier Fans at least optimistic about the future.     I also don't put too much stock in the atmosphere of certain message boards.  I don't know who is a troll, or simply someone that knows about as much about basketball as my mother in law does, not too much.  So basically, I don't put too much stock in the opinions of some posters that offer no solution, but would rather just complain.  I listen more to fans like myself, the die hard IU fans that can speak knowledge and explain what they feel is wrong with the team.  I'm withholding judgement on this year's team because I have been let down so many times before, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised, and I think that we'll be much better than last year's team.  We only lost Will Sheehey that was a big contributor and most of the time last year he struggled anyways.

Troy and I when he was 5. Troy and I now!!

Former Player from the early 80's, got fame from holding Jordan to way under his average in the 84 tournament when IU knocked off top seed UNC.  Former asst. Coach under Bob Knight for a long time, former Bowling Green Head Coach, and he was our Interim Coach before Coach Crean took over in 2008.  He has his own AM talk show on 1070 WIBC.  A lot of IU fans dislike him because he can be obnoxious, over the top, and an A Hole.

    Jeremiah April In Boot

I'm trying to think of where Jeremiah April will fit this year, even if healthy.  The Boot on his foot may be a total precaution kind of thing or it could be something that he'll have to play through this year, but I really don't worry about it.  Assuming our front court stays healthy this year, then I imagine Hanner and Davis will get the majority of the minutes with Holt getting some time this year, as well.  I am intrigued to see how Jeremiah April will eventually fit in.  Aside from Cody Zeller, IU has not had a great or very good Post Presence.  Guys like Tijan, Bawi, Bobby Capo, Jurkin, and Pritchard come to mind.  None of those guys are much to write home about, so hopefully Jeremiah can play without fouling and just work on his rebounding and defense and I'll be happy.

This Started It All for Me

This is an interesting question.  I, probably, like many of you, think that I'm the biggest IU basketball fan out there.  I can remember when I first started watching IU on WTT4 in 1986, My Dad and Grandma were big fans and I was just exposed to IU at such a young age.  Growing up in the 80's as a kid was pretty fun, my family lived on the Southside in Greenwood, and many weekends we would travel the 1 hour drive to Bloomington and go to Lake Monroe in Bloomington, so i also got to experience the Campus as a kid, and it was a really cool time and place, back in those days. And really just from then on, i've become a huge fan.  Like to the point where i can pretty much name every roster the last 25 years and watch old recordings of games that I got, and prolly give my left nut for another NCAA Championship during my lifetime, lbvs..

Favorite IU BBall Shooting/Scoring Performance All Time

That 2001-2002 team still holds a special place in my heart.  I've got the majority of our wins on DVD and i've watched the Illinois and Kent St. games countless times.  We had so many great shooters, and with skilled big men like Jeffries, Newton, and Odle it really stretched the floor and allowed for kick outs to our white boys with flat tops.  I loved that team.

Favorite IU BBall Shooting/Scoring Performance All Time

Ahhhh Good Question.  Off of the top of my head, I would say Tommy Coverdale at Notre Dame in 2000 where he dropped 30 on Troy Murphy and company.  This was really the first big game that Tom had while at IU.  Also, AJ Guyton at Penn State in 98, where he dropped I believe a career high 33 in an overtime win on the road.

Best Pure Shooter/Best Scorer In IU BBall History

Not sure, but I know Evan Gordon was not very good.  Crean gave him a lot of playing time last year, and he really did nothing well.  At his size you would think he'd be a point guard, but he couldn't handle the rock that great, and he definitely couldn't make others better.  He was not really a great 3 point shooter, and he was not overly athletic.  He was just a guy, not much better than a walk on.  You take him, and Austin Etherington who was scared to shoot and when he did shoot it was a brick, and Will Shehey who couldn't hit 3's for much better than 30% a clip, and Stan Robinson who can't shoot and airballed Free Throws; well it just goes to show how bad our Perimeter Game was last year.

Best Pure Shooter/Best Scorer In IU BBall History

Yea man, they would have put up crazy numbers.  I think Jay Edwards would have had a chance to beat Alfords record of all time points at IU.  Of course Cheaney later broke it, but Jay might have beat him to it.  Eric Gordon was the best freshman that I've ever seen play at IU, and I've watched a lot of IU basketball.  He was a man amongst boys that year.  He was big and strong and what seperated him from other athletic wings was the fact that Eric had DEEP 3 point range.  He would make a three pointer early in the game so you had to get up on him, and then that is when he would start posterizing dudes.  It stinks that his injuries have limited his ability at the next level, because he had/has a chance to be a special player.

Best Pure Shooter/Best Scorer In IU BBall History

Jay Edwards gets my nod as the most pure shooter.  He was absolutely unbelievable, and his game was perfect for the motion offense.  He had great size at about 6'5" and he got great elevation on his jumper and he had perfect form.  People can barely remember him anymore because he only played two years and he came to IU right after we won the Title in 87.  We had Jay, in 88 and 89, who was the Mr. Basketball out of Indiana, we also had the Co Mr. Basketball, Lyndon Jones, Jay's teammate from Marion, but he was not the scorer that Jay was.  Jay always had a reputation of being quite the party boy, and there are a lot of rumors going around about him.  To you youngsters, Jay came out after his Soph year and was drafted in the 2nd round at around 28th I  believe to the LA Clippers.  Injuries hampered his career, but if he played all 4 years at IU he would have broken many scoring records.  His game was kind of like Reggie Miller's, because he was long with good size and unbelievable range.     As far as the most pure scorer, I'm trying to think of someone who can just fill up the Stat sheet without necessarily having plays ran for him.  While Calbert scored a lot of points, he really had to do with help from picks and back screens.  His game was never isolation and just score, which is part of the reason he was a career 10 ppg scorer in the NBA and not the 20 ppg that we were used to seeing.  It's different at the next level when you have to get your own in a shorter shot clock without the help of screens.  So back to the most pure scorer, I'm going to go with Eric Gordon who could absolutely fill it up, either from Deep, or in Transition, or around the basket, all while being a Freshman.  Can you imagine the stats that he would have put up if he stayed in College for more than one year?  Can you imagine the stats that he would have put up if he played in an Offensive system that was more advanced than Sampson's elementary sets?     Honorable Mention goes to:  A.J. Guyton who was a great shooter and had a great cross over to create space for his Jumper Steve Alford, I can barely remember him because I was just a kid, but his jumper was automatic.  He had a quick release and he was great at running around screens in the Motion Offense.  Looking at a guy who wasn't much bigger than Jordan Hulls it's crazy to think that he put up over 2400 pts in the Big Ten Conference.
