    Too many forwards?

And if Juwan Morgan is 250 lbs then i'm a damn Chinaman.

Thank You!  I read that and just laughed out loud!

    Too many forwards?

Perhaps, but I think his game translates a lot more to the 3.  He's about 6'6" 210 lbs and likes to shoot jumpers from the perimeter, I don't think his low post moves translate to the Big Ten.  I see him backing up Troy.

    Too many forwards?

So you'd redshirt the two out of the three Freshman that we have coming, both of who happen to play on the wing where Troy will need to have someone back him up?  These guys are 3's, so I don't think they'll necessarily compete as much for minutes as you seem to think with guys like Devin, Hanner, and Emmit.  I wouldn't be opposed to reshirting one of them perhaps, but certainly not both of them.

    Too many forwards?

Juwan Morgan is an intriguing prospect and Emmit Holt as a sophomore is encouraging.  Both seem to be around the same size and both are effective around the basket.  I know Juwan's jumper has improved thru High School, but I don't think it's necessarily a weapon for him yet, and Emmit definitely needs to improve his Jump Shot, but I think both of these guys could really be weapons for us and I'm very interested to see who ends up getting more minutes when the Season begins.

Who Will Be Next Year's Hartman or Zeisloft?

My posting increases during the OffSeason because i'm stressed out during the regular season and I can't stand to read all of the negativity.  I actually really enjoy posting and reading on this board during the OffSeason, and that's not meant to be a cheap shot at all.

It really is man, it's been a long time since we've had that kind of depth in the Front Court.  It makes me think back to the early 90's when we had Nover, Eric Anderson, Alan Henderson, Cheaney, and company.  I'm very interested to see the playing rotations with these guys because 40 minutes isn't a lot of time to split between 5 players playing the same position.  We all know what Bryant can do or should be able to do, but what can Morgan bring to the table?  Will he be better than a Sophomore Holt?  Will Crean play them together on the floor?  Does Devin Davis even play next year?  These are all the things that pop in my head as I'm bored at work every day.

    Too many forwards?

Our lack of shooting in 2013-2014 did result in him bringing in 3 great shooters last year with Nick, Rob, and JBJ, so hopefully the forwards that are being brought in for 2015-2016 will fill a gaping hole with our defense in the frontcourt.  I really hope that Coach Crean is not reluctant at playing guys like Holt and Bryant in the game at the same time.  I know that you lose perimeter scoring, but it's time that we stop being so soft and ditching the 3 guards and Troy lineup is a good way to start.     I thought that Holt was a nice player for us last year, and I also thought that Hanner showed flashes of being a good player in the Post, add a nice player in Morgan, and another healthy off season for Collin to get stronger and adding a McDonald's All American in Bryant, and the Post players could be a real strength for this team.  It's certainly, on paper, the most talented team from top to bottom that Coach Crean has had in Bloomington.  Of course, our guys down low will still be put in unfavorable positions if our guards, minus Yogi, can't keep their man in front of them.

Possible Reason For The 2 Year Slide--The Failed Movement

"The Movement" is maybe one of the most overrated recruiting classes that IU has ever had.  I hate saying that because Yogi has been fantastic and could go down as one of the best point guards that IU has ever had, certainly in my era.  However, everyone else did not perform much if at all for IU.  Jurkin was a complete waste of a scholarship, we all know about Patterson and the grades, Hollowell had on court and off court issues, and then there's Hanner, who's definitely the 2nd best out of the group, but we had to wait 3 seasons to get even decent play out of him.   The problem with striking out on a recruiting class if you don't do something about it quickly then it really put you behind; couple that with injuries, transfers, and off the court issues and a small problem becomes a big problem and you miss out on the tournament.  Certainly, the Staff might have suspected that the Hoosiers would fall off a little bit when Zeller left, and I don't think that the staff had any clue that Victor would blow up the way he did and become an early entry number 2 pick in the NBA Draft.  It stinks, but I really do think that we're back on track at the moment.  I'm very excited for next year.

    Way Too Early Top 25

I wish that were the case, I really do.  I just think that two decades worth of mediocrity has changed the program's expectations or goals as you say.

The forgotton man, Woody, is Holt.  Many people overlook Holt, but i think with the addition of Bryant then Holt can make a lot of plays.  I really love Holt's old school game and just think of how much more effective he can be with a year of off season training and familiarity with things, plus not having to expend so much energy guarding an opposing 5 that outweighs him by 30 lbs and has 3 inches on him.  With the addition of Bryant, I am hoping that Emmit Holt among others will benefit and be allowed to play his natural position which is a 4 that doesn't need plays ran for him to be effective.

This has been a fun thought of mine since Saturday after finding out about the addition of Thomas Bryant. Coach Crean has a lot of options next season, but I would think that the one thing that he knows he must improve is the Defense.  There's really no way of sugar coating it, IU was horrible at Defense this season.   I could easily say that we return all of our starters, and that we could go for chemistry and just start the same guys as we did this year only substitute Bryant for Hanner, but I still don't think that improves our Defense.  I really feel that for IU to make a noticeable improvement on Defense that Coach Crean has got to play bigger players on the court together .  Not only does Coach Crean like to play 3 guard lineups, but the guards that he's started together have typically been small guards, and while they've been effective on offense they've often times been exploited, defensively.   Next year, assuming everyone that's a core player comes back, then I'd like to see Yogi and James Blackmon Jr in the back court.  With Troy on the wing, Collin playing a stretch 4 kind of role and Thomas Bryant down low.  This lineup allows us to play bigger players which should help defensively, it lets Troy play his more natural position, it gives Collin more possibilities to do what he does best; find open shooters and make plays with the best offensive players that we have on the court, and it allows Bryant to be able to kick out to two of our better shooters and have space to make plays for himself around the hoop.  While I think that Rob Johnson is deserving to start, with only 4 guards on the roster, I think that he will need to be Yogi's backup.   From a Defensive standpoint, it allows us to match up against teams that have more size while still maintaining the ability to stretch the floor, but one key thing is that we will finally have weak side help around the rim.

I want Tom Crean to stay

That is true, but one thing that annoys me about the Crean naysayers is the fact that they never seem to hold players accountable.  My memory is good enough to remember what players had good games and what players played lousy.  And Jordan Hulls, i'm sorry, played lousy that entire tournament run and Big Ten Tournament.  I know some will say that he hurt his shoulder that Temple game and that's why he had 0 points against Syracuse, but he had not been good the last couple of games. Not trying to defend Crean as much as it seems, but I am also not going to put all of the blame on him when the players decide the game.

I want Tom Crean to stay

I'm excited about next year, just as I was excited for this year.  I think that Coach and the team overachieved in the beginning of the Season, and then underachieved in Jan and Feb.  It makes sense because we were so young.  Why were we so young? well again that is on Crean with his balance or lack there of, with classes.  Now, next year I like what we have coming in, and I'm excited about what we potentially have coming back, and who else we may have coming in.     I really want it to work out with Coach Crean, and I do feel his lack of in game coaching is overblown by IU fans, and I also think his inability to recruit the right players is overblown, as well. Because of what Coach did for the program and because he won us an outright Big Ten title 2 years ago, then I am willing to give him next year to show me something.  After that, if success is not obtained then I am sure that Fred Glass would have to let him go, or Crean would step down.

    Devin Davis Updates

I hope that Devin can come back, but I'm still worried about his future.  I've read comments from Coach, saying things like we don't know if he'll ever play again.  He's also said it was like a concussion times 10, and it just makes me concerned that he might not ever be able to come back or be able to play at a high level.

    Hoetzel to transfer

Well being a graduate transfer he is still taking classes for his post graduate degree, i don't remember what that is, however.

    Hoetzel to transfer

Nick transferred to IU with 2 years of eligibility so I don't know why he would leave IU.  The kid wants to play, and I think that he warranted playing time with his contributions to the team this year.  I like Nick Z.

    Hoetzel to transfer

I completely agree, and when Coach did try and put Max in the game he was awful on Defense.  I would venture to say that out of our 9-10 guys that played, Max was the Worst Defender.  He ALWAYS got beat baseline, it never failed.  I would see it happen before it did.  It had to have been on the other teams scouting report to take Max baseline because when he did play earlier in the year he would always get beat.

    2015 #IUBB Offseason Thread

They're waiting to see what players go into the Draft from some of the other schools to see what kind of playing time they can get.  We may not get either one of them but i don't necessarily think that we're out of the running.  I know that we'll definitely bring in some sort of low post player though, we have to.

    Stan Robinson transferring

Sorry but i'm not at all sorry to see this happen.  Everyone knew we were oversigned by 2 and needed to clear room for Juwan Morgan and O.G. and probably one more player since Crean needs a big man.  If I could have picked the player that I'd want to transfer most on the team it'd be Stan.  I've never seen a guard at IU shoot the ball as badly as Stan.  I mean his jumper is just flat out broken.  How many times has a kid tried to switch shooting hands his Sophomore year in College?  Very rarely under Crean does a player transfer that I really wanted to return or felt that we let one get away, Luke Fischer was the only guy so far.

Thinking out loud about our big man situation....

Great point, man.  I have that old 92 Tournament game against LSU recorded and I've watched it numerous times.  What's funny is in that game, Shaq's form was completely different than his form while in the NBA when he shot at around a 50% clip from the charity stripe.  His form was nice and it was one fluid motion rather than that awful hitch that he had in the NBA.

Thinking out loud about our big man situation....

It's hard for me to compare that 91-92 team to this Hoosier team because of many factors. That 91-92 team had plenty of size on it, all while lacking a true back to the basket post player, we had Eric Anderson at around 6'8", Alan Henderson 6'9", Matt Nover 6'8", and Calbert Cheaney at 6'7."  We could really throw a lot of size at teams from an Offensive standpoint because all of those guys, but Nover had a very good perimeter game, and from a Defensive standpoint with the pressure that our guards from that 91-92 squad put on teams our post defense was solid.  Our Defensive rotations and help defense on those late 80's early 90's teams was absolutely fantastic.     This years team got off to a Horrible Start from a Defensive standpoint and a lot of that had to do with Interior Defense and our guards keeping their man in front of them.  It's gotten better, but I'd say that Defense is our achilles heel this year, while it was a major strength for the team that you're comparing it to.   Moving forward I really like the potential of Hanner, Holt, Devan, and Juwan Morgan.  I would like to have one more big on this team for Defensive purposes, but I think Crean has done a good job so far with protecting this weakness.
