UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU

The weather definitely sucks in both, but Minnesota has hotter girls. lol -
Where will our transfers commit to?

Hanner was so damn frustrating, especially Defensively. Last year, was clearly his best year while at IU, but he still made the same mistakes: fumbled the ball in traffic, not much of a face up game, fouled a lot, always bit on the shot fake. While he made improvements last year, Holt and Bryant both would have probably out played him this year. He was a very frustrating player. -

There's absolutely a nice little rivalry brewing with Michigan, especially since we beat them in 2012 on their home floor to win our first B1G Championship, outright, in 20 years!!!! -
I don't even care to read the article, and that's no disrespect to anyone who has or is going to, I've just moved on from the whole situation. The thought of thinking more about Hanner and Devin, and replaying in my head all of the what ifs, is way too tiring.

UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU

Haha yea that is true, especially among our guards. Both Rod Wilmont and Victor were listed at 6'5", and both were about 6'2" and change. So many other dudes we've rounded up, but those guys always stood out to me. -

UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU

That's pretty much how I feel too. We don't need to have a total stud in the frontcourt, just somebody to give us minutes and that we can depend on. -
This is exactly how I feel, and I think many others share this sentiment, or perhaps will, once the dust settles. I was always concerned about the potential "feel good scholly" situation with Devin. We really don't even know what to expect out of him, and it could have been a messy situation if he wasn't playing well, or much at all; especially with the player movement that IU has with Crean. This probably will work out well for IU because we'll get to bring another player or two in, get rid of the baggage, and send a message to the team.

Can we all at least agree that...
Lt. John McClaine replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There's plenty of things that I question Tom Crean on, but typically, recruiting is at the bottom of the list. Why are we talking about what IU is selling to recruits? How would we know and who cares? There's bigger fish to fry than that, the man has proven that he can recruit and develop players. -
Next Season's Expectations Have Been Set

I really like the Uni's too, I know they're just subtle changes, but it's a fresh look. I found it interesting that we wore them in the NCAA Tournament, since they were marketed as a B1G Tourney jersey. -
OFFICIAL: Ferrell returns for Senior Season

Pretty much! -
Pretty much what Josh said.

This kid is a very intriguing prospect, he's got great size, should be able to defend multiple positions, and might be a good shooter for us. I'm very interested to see how this class turns out for IU, and we may look back on this class one day and see how it helped turn IU around.

We all know how lousy our Defense was last year, so I don't want to beat it to death. We were undersized, our guards, minus Yogi and sometimes Stan, couldn't keep their man in front of them and gave us easy penetration, we switched between man to man and zone, and with 3 freshman playing heavy minutes and several players playing out of position and having to guard much larger players. So moving forward, having Thomas Bryant should help provide a shot blocking presence, and if Hanner can stay healthy he can also provide some shot blocking, and if he plays alongside Thomas Bryant then he can come from the Weak Side block and make even more plays. My question is how does the staff look to improve a Defense that ranked near the bottom of the Conference in many statistical categories as well as ranking very poorly from an All Time Indiana Team Defense perspective? Is the hope that some of the freshman come back with having a year of valuable experience and gained strength? Is the thought that playing bigger will allow some guys like Troy, Collin, and Emmitt to play their more natural positions? Will we hire a Coach to replace McCain that has a Defensive Background? Just how much improvement do you expect to see next year factoring in that we return a lot of players from last year and that the team should know that Team Defense will be a major goal for improvement....

How much better will our Defense be?
Lt. John McClaine replied to Lt. John McClaine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't think that JBJ is unathletic. Sure, he's not Victor Oladipo, but he's not Dane Fife either. I think that his Defensive issues came down more to him being a little soft and not liking too much contact rather than James not being "athletic" enough to check his man. -

I honestly think that the Defense makes or breaks our chances at another Conference Title and advancing far in the Tourney. Our offense statistically was in the Top 10 of the NCAA Div 1 and that was with playing 2 freshman in the starting lineup and at times starting a player like Hartman that was a complete after thought at the beginning of the season . I share your optimism and I'm really looking forward to a more traditional lineup which should allow fewer mismatches on the Defensive side of things. -
Thanks, Kentucky for revealing yourself
Lt. John McClaine replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I thought the same thing, he does not have a history of cheap shots, and I know that he went back on his verbal with us so obviously there's some disdain towards him, but I think calling him a "Thug" is insulting. -

Lt. John McClaine replied to Lt. John McClaine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The Purdue games, at Wisconsin, and at Michigan State were so hard to watch just because we were just so overmatched. It reminded me at times to the 2004-2005 Mike Davis teams that had Sean Kline and Mike Roberts trying to guard an opponents Front Line. I know that some things that occurred certainly affected our Defensive statistics from last year, IE Devin Davis's bonehead mistake on Nov 1st, Hanner dislocating his knee in January, and even the injury that Robert Johnson sustained in February that affected his play. I am confident that we improve next season just partly because of better rim protection, bigger size to throw at teams, and a year of valuable experience, but I am curious to see if we change anything fundamentally with our Defense. -
Starting 5 as of Today
Lt. John McClaine replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I keep reading all this Devin Davis hype from a few posters on here, like he's gonna come right back in and take Holt and Hanner's minutes. We need to be realistic here, because his bonehead decision on November 1st has put him way behind everyone else on the team. He's lucky to have come back as quickly as he has, but him getting heavy minutes, let alone Starting is laughable to me. -
YOGI--You Stayed! Now Lead Us To Glory!
Lt. John McClaine replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree, I think he's a very special player and I completely disagree with Benz. If Yogi doesn't come back, then Coach Crean will have to consider bringing in an additional ball handler because currently Yogi is the only point guard on the team. I've been watching IU basketball for 3 decades, and Yogi is the best point guard we've had in that era. It's really just him and Isaiah. With the weapons that IU has returning, having Yogi come back as a Senior could be the reason we have a legit chance of winning the B1G and advancing far into the NCAA tournament. -
In the 7 years now that Coach Crean has been at IU, he's built a reputation as an Offensive minded coach, a coach that plays a lot of guards and typically plays "Small." Yet approaching the 2015-2016 season, I see a roster loaded with Forwards and short on Guards. Does this seem odd to anyone? Also, for a Coach that likes to play guards and use a lot of different guard oriented lineups; are 4 guards enough for next year, and how are all of these forwards going to share minutes? These are the questions that seem to be on my mind, lately. While I welcome the fact that Coach Crean has recruited more size for next year, I question how he's going to play all of these forwards. I mean we're talking about a Coach that not only plays 3 guard lineups, but sometimes a 4 guard lineup. We're talking about a Coach that never plays 2 big men on the Court at the same time. Yet, I look at the roster and I see a team stacked with 6'6" and up players. Guys like, Emmit Holt, Collin Hartman, Juwan Morgan, Devan Davis, Hanner Parea, OG Anunoby, and now Thomas Bryant. Is anyone else curious on how Coach Crean will not only utilize these guys, but how a Coach that loves to have shooters on the floor at so many positions is going to be able to find a lineup to his liking with a lot of guys that seem to play the same position. Everyone knows that we needed to get some more size on this roster, and that our Defense must improve. Is recruiting more front court players the Staff's way of addressing our defensive woes? While some of our best players on the team are in the backcourt, I will be very curious to see how IU's frontcourt shapes up with so many players competing for minutes at the same spot. It seems that the 4 spot will have a lot of competition next season.

Too many forwards?
Lt. John McClaine replied to Lt. John McClaine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I guess I get what you're saying about Redshirting, however I wouldn't think Holt would be a consideration. He had a good year and was a solid pick up, sure there's things to improve on, but he should continue to improve and give us good minutes next year. Plus I am excited to see him play next year. I also am reluctant to count on Devin Davis at this point, we really don't know anything about the extent of his Brain injury, and some of the comments by Coach Crean make me even more skeptical about his basketball future in Bloomington. I don't see anyone getting redshirted, quite honestly. -

Lt. John McClaine replied to Lt. John McClaine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Pretty much, Bowhunter. I mean how many guys have been redshirted during the Crean era that have been good players? I can't even think of anyone that has been redshirted outside of Jerimiah Rivers because of a transfer rule and uh.... -

Lt. John McClaine replied to Lt. John McClaine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
His earlier highlight videos he was more of an inside player, but his Senior Year he really developed a nice perimeter game, and that's why I think he translates more to a 3. Especially with his size, because at the 6'6" 6'7"ish range, I think he'd pose more mismatches at the 3 than at the 4.
