(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
cleeter replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Totally agree. Romeo knows we want him at IU. That's no secret. If (and thats a big IF) he is worried about committing to Vandy and waiting to announce because he is worried about what the fans would do or say as backlash (which i dont think he is), then what does that say about us as a fan base. Not saying there would be any backlash or anything but please lets not see anyone say anything to him on twitter or anything. No school should ever feel entitled to a kid and no kid should ever feel pressure to go to a school. Kids must do what they feel is best for them, not best for a fan base. I want Romeo more than any other recruit ever. But if he chooses Vandy or Kansas, then i will wish him luck and still wish him the best because of the way he has handled this recruitment. He's a great basketball player and a better person. No matter his choice, it was amazing to be in the consideration and have a chance to land a kid of his stature. -

Deshaun Thomas - Freshman in High School Gary Harris - November Zak Irvin - July 31st Trey Lyles - November 5th Kyle Guy - October 20th Kris Wilkes - November 13th All those players were Mr. Indiana. They all left the state for college ball. All announced before or during their senior season. I don't know if they received any backlash, but i don't remember hearing about it. Was i disappointed when they didn't chose us, yes. But after about 5 minutes of wondering why, my concentration went to worrying about the class we had coming in and players staying. It wasn't spent on bashing the player for choosing what he thought was best for him and his future. I think most reasonable and understanding fans think that way. And i think the Langford's think that way. I do not believe that worrying about backlash has anything to do with his decision date. *Disclaimer - contrary to popular belief, i have been wrong before and most likely will be wrong again at some point...though not very often* -

03/15 - Tennessee 03/16 - Auburn (if I've made it that far) I had to change mine. I played in one before where you pick your team and if your team wins, you get points for what seed they were. I.E. if a 10 seed wins, you get 10 points. 4 seed wins, you get 4 points. It made a challenge of picking teams you think will win, but at the same time getting points for seedings. I dont know why i took this as being that way. Tis' the reason for the change of heart. -

New Albany High School's Romeo Langford will make his college choice between April 13 and April 30, his father, Tim, told IndyStar on Monday. The timing for Romeo, the nation's top-ranked uncommitted recruit, is defined by his more immediate plans: Win a state championship. Play in the McDonald’s All-American game March 28. Play the Jordan Brand Classic April 8 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Play the Nike Hoop Summit April 13 at the Moda Center in Portland. And then… announce his college choice: Indiana, Vanderbilt or Kansas. "Tim Langford said he and his son talked Sunday night about how they want to make the announcement. They are considering several options, including making the announcement at the school or perhaps out in the community, with New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan helping to reveal Romeo’s decision." That came from and Indy Star article and they quoted Tim. Just wanted to make sure no one thinks i am saying this. Not making any assumptions from this, but i guess that if he makes it at his school or uses the mayor in the community (which is a great gesture), i have to think that would be IU lean in my opinion. -

There was a long time family friend of mine who was at the games this weekend. He goes to every NA game and sits behind the bench and knows Coach Shannon very well. He got a picture with RP and walked up to Archie and shook his hand this weekend. He said that he heard TJD arguing with coaches and players on the team at the game. Also said that there was a couple occasions where after a big play would look at opposing fans in a "bragging or showing up" way. I myself haven't seen TJD play or anything but was wondering if he does have a little of an attitude problem or if we can chalk all this down as "passion". I know others mentioned he was in foul trouble and this all could be played off as frustration and passion of not wanting to sit, but just wanted to pass what i heard and see if anyone else knows which it is. Passion or if he can be a jerk at times. -
Seriously, why is teddy still reffing games. Idk about all of you, but I can’t stand it when he does a game. Good ol TV Teddy has got to go.
-
Fouls are ridiculous anymore. What i cant stand is when a post player goes straight up and the offensive players dips his shoulder and makes contact to the defenders gut. I am no genius but if i have my hands up and someone makes contact to my gut, my hands with come down a little. Its a reaction. I dont understand how/why a foul is called every time.
-
That was my thinking process also. If it had to compete with the ACC, Big 12, and other conferences, i dont know if B1G would have gotten that much TV viewership. That could be why the TV ratings were up, because it was the only basketball on in that time slot. Plus during the day, ANY basketball conference games is better than listening to Stephen A run his trap.

I about lost if this weekend when talking to someone about Romeo. So we were talking about Romeo waiting for his game to come on. We were sitting there drinking a beer talking about basketball when the patented "where do you think he goes" convo started. Here is where the fun begins. A gentlemen who is sitting next to me in a Cincinnati bearcats sweater and wearing an Ohio State hat looks at me and says that HE HIMSELF, has talked to Romeo's parents directly and his parents told HIM directly, that it was their son's decision and that is when Romeo's father looked HIM directly in the eye and said his son is going to Vanderbilt. I proceed to say some choice words but basically said "i dont believe you at all"...i then said okay, what is romeo's fathers name. He said he couldn't remember. I then asked what gym it was at, couldn't remember that. He then got pushy and said well let me ask you a question, i said go for it. He asked "answer me this, why in THE H*** (raised his voice) would Romeo go to IU, what do they have to offer and why would he even think about them" I proceed to chug what was left of my beer to hold back the words i really wanted to say. Decided that he wasnt even worth my breath and just had to walk away. Basically to round this up, can we please just have this over and his announcement here before we normal sane people are pushed to the brink haha. -
I love the quote about Archie from him. I would have to think that having RMK back you and saying that you can "coach" and "do a good job", definitely cant be a bad thing. I just wish RMK would come back to AH one time at least. Everyone that was associated with the university when he was there is gone now. This is a whole new regime. Could you just imagine how that place would react if he walked in. It would probably crumble to the ground. But i feel this all a pipe dream and will never happen but hey......a man can dream right?
-
You are correct, he has them as the first team in the "First Four Out" as of today.
-
haha whoa now gents. i, along with the rest of the Cleeter family, do not condone nor want to be associated with Kentucky in any form. Our motto is "you can pick and root for any team you want but it CANNOT be UK" There is also a disclaimer in there saying that if you chose Purdue, you may or may not be ridiculed forever and you will not have a Christmas or birthday that you will probably be happy about haha
-
Hahaha. No I sure don’t. No Peter’s either. Crying shame
-
Well after looking it up. I guess i over-exaggerated. 16-29 with 2 point loss at ILL 18-25 with 3 point loss to MSU 10-17 with 7 point loss to Purd.... 16-26 with 10 point loss to Duke I wish there was a way to see how many of those misses were the front end of a 1-and-1 because say there was 3 times we missed a front end, that could cost us 6 points. And in all those games, that would made it all very different. So I’d say they only cost us in 2 but perhaps more. I think my hatred for miss FT’s and missed 1-and-1 May blur my thoughts haha
-
And i am stoked that a "positive IU list" is that long because they haven't had much to put on that list except for the past few weeks. But i try not to concern myself with FT too much, because the players can practice that by themselves at anytime. They only have so much time with Archie to learn and be taught the offense and defense. Just wish those darn "freebies" would start falling.

Exactly my thoughts...if he decides to go to IU then they will just announce it then with a visit not being needed because they have been here (i think). If he is debating still and/or is leaning another direction, they will give IU the last chance to sway/sell him. I dont see the Langford's being the type that try to put cryptic messages out there or people that try to cause a ruckus. -
I agree with all of your post, but just wanted to put out another concern i have, that i havent seen on here (or just missed it) My biggest concern with this team and it drives me up a darn wall, is missed free throws. Im not 100% on stats but i feel confident in saying that it has cost us 3 wins minimum this year. Now i just keep telling myself that transforming this offense and defense out of the FCTC era and into CAM's era has taken precedence and maybe that means less free throw practicing, but still...its a free throw. Free throws will cost you if you miss them and they have cost us many times, and nothing more makes my blood boil than missed free throws.

I live about 35 minutes away from there. Yes there is a decent amount of UK fans (yuck) around here but most are the idiots who couldn't name you 3 starters on their team and dont know basketball and only root for them because they are usually winning. The true basketball fans here still love their Hoosiers like no other....except for the small PU groupies. -

He lost me when he said Blackmon was "elite" and the only got worse from there. Its one of those situations when you've dug yourself a hole and just need to stop. Nope, not this guy, he kept on digging and only looked dumber. -
So i have a question that a couple friends and i have been debating. Obviously this is all hypothetical since none of us know what Romeo will decide. But for the sake of debate, let me ask this. If you could only have one of these, what would you want/think is better for this team moving forward, 1) A true PG (which we lack) in Phinisee for 4 years 2) Romeo (if he was committed per say) for 1 year. Which would you prefer if you actually had a choice and what would be better for the team

I am a huge Georgia Bulldog football fan. Mark Richt was a fantastic coach. Went to bowl game every single year he was there. He had top 10 classes last 3-4 years. Kirby walked in with great talent, just needed a little polish. Richt got fired because the norm became he always would lose big games. Georgia football and Kirby hire are night and day and cannot be compared to IU and Archie hire. **Richt was hired by Miami and was one win away from playoff also. -

Todd Meier, Winston Morgan, Steve Alford, Stew Robinson and Uwe Blab. That starting 5 is most likely better than any player we got. I bring them up because when they weren't playing to their level and not making RMK happy, he benched them. Didnt start them against Iowa. It showed a message. Lit a fire under their a$$ and let them know that just because you are upperclassmen or a big recruit, doesn't mean you are "entitled" to start or play more. I wish CTC would have done this with his teams a couple times but never did. Start next game with McBob, Priller, Jager, etc. Even if they only play for 30 seconds or 30 minutes, it gets a point across to this team that you EARN your time on the court, you aren't entitled to anything. And maybe, just maybe, lights a fire in this team.
