There used to be a time where I dreaded hiring an IU guy because I thought it would be Alford. Then in IU fashion we somehow find another IU guy that makes Alford look like John Wooden

Someone pull the fire alarm quick!! -
Purdue has been that team for me for the last few years but I’ll gladly sacrifice a bracket to see them lose early
-
At the least we give him clicks. Using IU fans for self promotion
-
That is the most frustrating part. Clearly there was at least some reservation or realism of the risk of hiring Woodson. Then he promptly runs off the people put in place to mitigate that risk.
-
Thanks for bringing the info to the board even if it isn’t what we all want/think should happen. Do you think there a chance it won’t be Dolson’s decision to make and money could come from other sources? The mismanagement of this whole situation is mind blowing
-
So they have the money to pay one man (Stevens I’m assuming) but aren’t willing to spend it on any other elite options? That right there tells me they aren’t taking this as seriously as they should.
-
You are correct. If there was any accountability Dolson would be going down with this ship. Shouldn’t be able to screw up Football and Basketball for years and keep your job (unless you work at IU).

Sign of where we are as a program. Northwestern isn’t even that fired up over beating IU in Bloomington. Just another day at the office

Too late. We passed embarrassing weeks ago -
Painter worked Purdue that way. He was never going to Missouri.

Definitely not pining for Crean. Just pointing out that Crean’s system had a greater chance to overachieve vs. a Woodson offense. Neither coach should be the bellwether of what fans should expect at IU -

Creans teams had their flaws but at least they were capable of some big wins just because the style may have been gelling that night. Funny thing I remember one year he beat two number one seeds during the season and still didn’t get a bid. -
Depressing thought but not surprising given results but we haven’t had a coach that I’d consider top 5 in the league (minus Sampson) in 25 years. Ineptitude at its finest.

I think some could be persuaded if the money is there. While not as common it isn’t unheard of for high major coaches to make a move -

Better yet take Painter from Purdue. Some PU fans wanted him gone last year. Seriously though I’d love to get someone like Pearl or Drew. We would need a big hire to show that we are serious (if we even are anymore). Hiring a mid major coach even if successful at their current school is something any other power 5 school can do. -

Also we usually don’t make the passes to shooters in a shooting position. -

The money must be dying off at UCLA. From what we hear now Wooden was likely offering more than 300k decades ago! -

To add to that I believe he got a T on the bench while out with his injury last year. -
It’s all we have left at this point
-
Good point and it’s true things have gotten worse (and it seems unbelievable that it has been almost 20 years since Sampson). I think the answer is money, NIL and resources. Coaching is an ego driven profession so I think some of the better ones could be convinced. It would no doubt be expensive but could provide fans a sense of taking it seriously and with urgency
-
I agree with you. May has looked good and has IU history but we need to set our sights on a proven power 5 coach if we are conducting the search right. We poached Sampson from Oklahoma and my guess is we’d have another banner if not for all the shenanigans.
-
This is typical IU. Woodson would not have been considered for any other high level college job. Is there any coach in the B1G that you can say he’s clearly better than? I used to dread the talk of an Alford hiring but that doesn’t scare me anymore……..
-
I’m not sure his ego can spare a few years of getting it in full gear…..and I love it!
-
Do you believe that if we can win one of the next two that we would be back at least in the discussion?
