It would seem a little improbable for IU to buyout Woody and Pearl and then pay Pearl a huge salary. That's a lot of dough.
-
I think i'd rather get Pearl for 5-7 years than Dusty May right now. I know that sounds crazy to some...but I just don't trust a mid-major hire right now. A young relatively inexperienced guy stepping into the maelstrom that is IU basketball in 2024-2025. It ate up Archie. It is currently eating up Woody. It eventually ate up Crean.

I think if you are Pearl, it isn't about the money- you have plenty. Kids are grown up (assumption?). You only live once and if you have a chance to land your dream job....why the f not? I'm not all in on Pearl but I wouldn't be upset.

We trailed the whole game and it never felt like we were going to win. Against Penn St with a first year coach. Fire Mike Woodson. Please. -

I think it’s a cumulative recruiting failure from Archie/Woody. The last time we had good guards (not “wings”) was Crean, and he only had 2 good guards in the 9 yrs he was here (Oladipo, Yogi). -

I love Gallo but I’m sorry you just can’t play a guard 30min+ who can’t hit FTs. We don’t have a choice bc our roster is terrible but….if we are lucky enough to get a coaching change, I really hope Gallo is not a major piece of our roster next year. I love his effort and his drives to the bucket can be clutch but he gives you nothing from 3pt or from FT. -

So 3 seconds out of a timeout, Gallo shoots a contested 3 off the dribble. -
Rumor mill is Sean Miller to OSU. I could see him killing it there tbh. IU needs to get their head outta their a**! lol.

Why?

I think its bc to some of us it is unconscionable to think of a Hoosier leaving the state forever and not wanting to coach the IU program especially if/when so many ppl want you to do it and the university wants you to do it. Live in Baahston forever while not coaching basketball? I mean, sure if you don't like coaching basketball and you don't like the state of Indiana then sure, living in Baahston and being an executive sounds like a plan. And perhaps Stevens is in the latter camp. It's hard to believe but it's evidently the case. It just makes so much sense that the notion will never truly die entirely lol.

Gallo, Cupps (or someone else), Liam, Mgbako, Malik- this could be a very solid starting5 with a good coach. Malik is very good scoring around the basket, we'd have 2 good 3pt shooters with size, we'd have Gallo who is a quality wing imo (if he can fix his FT shooting) and the other guard could be Cupps or hopefull we'd bring in someone with more pop. Ware is gone for sure imo, and the Gunns and Banks of the world are gone. Mgbako could be too of course but I think if we brought in a compelling coach a lot of our starting guys would likely stay imo. PT is up for grabs and IU does well in NIL compensation I think.
-
Agreed...its perplexing...and almost seems on purpose.
-
Hard to get a sense of directionally where IU would be looking in the next coaching search- young(er) and promising? Older and experienced? Something in between? IU guy or does that matter anymore? They're in a tough spot bc they hired 2 young promising coaches in the last 20 years: Crean/Archie...and neither one worked out. Then they hired an IU guy with Woodson and that isn't working out. Agree with others that Pearl is too old now. He has the type of presence and personality that would probably do well here- assertive, uptempo style, high energy, etc...

Not sure many elite teams would be willing to pay more than IU for Malik. IU has deep pockets but also, Malik is our most prolific player this year and he would be next year too probably. On an elite team he would be the 2nd or 3rd option. Not sure Malik is one of the ones leaving. Who knows though.
-
Imagine a younger more energetic, motivator coaching Liam, Gallo, Cupps, Mgbako, Malik. - That's a nice starting 5 with the right leadership imo.
-
Tom Allen coached 7 full seasons before getting fired and Crean had I think 9. Woody will get more than 3 I suspect. Hope I'm wrong.
