some of these transfers will come just for the bag and if they play a minor role, so be it. Most of these guys aren't goin to make as much money playing basketball anywhere else in their lives. Not saying it's a bad thing...but I don't think Woody has to guarantee starter minutes to some of these guys to get them to come. Some of them should have an idea of whether or not they are pro basketball material or not and come get life changing bags at 19y old.

That’s a good point. I think im being too negative on Rice. You’re right, with only Gallo and a rehabbed Newton, we don’t have any other dynamic ball handlers/defenders.

In the last 9 games of the season Rice went 0-22 from 3pt. Did we really need a bad 3pt shooter added to a team that was terrible at shooting the 3? Honestly….its dumbfounding. Where is this hype train for this kid coming from? Bc he avg double figures in the Pac12? The hype on this kid is like a magic trick- there’s no there there. Hoping I’m dead wrong and prove to be just a hater. We get someone like Hickman then I’ll get excited. Hell, even getting the big kid from AZ would be exciting….we do need another good big man for depth. Please, Woody please get a real shooter for gods sake.

We are handing out hundreds of thousands of dollars to players and I'd just hope we would try for someone who shoots better than 27% from 3pt, seeing as how we were essentially the worst 3pt shooting team in the country last year. But then again, Woody is our coach so it shouldn't be surprising.

Rice shot 27% from 3pt last year and avg 3.8 assists vs 2.6 TO....so that's actually worse than a healthy Xavier Johnson. We would be better off letting Gallo be point and getting in some actual shooters rather than a so-so point who can't shoot very well. IMO.

If Woody is dead set on starting MM at the 3 then yes you are right, it can't add up....but I think if he is forced to have MM at the 4 and Tucker at the 3 then Gallo at the 2 and a new PG could work..right?

Galloway is going to start for IU next season; I don't understand why people think Woody is going to start some new transfer guy(s) over Gallo. The only way Woody brings Gallo off the bench is if we land transfer guards or freshmen that are more talented *and* play harder than Gallo and there are only a few players out there that would fit that bill, none of which are being mentioned imo. Cupps is for sure going to get replaced in the starting lineup, but not Gallo. Woody isn't going to have a starting backcourt of potentially 2 new players and/or a guy who hasn't played ball in 2 years (Newton).

it's an odd place to criticize Purdue after they had a dominating year...but the critique most had of them was they were a giant surrounded by opportunistic mid players and that's exactly what they were last night. Most of their roster is average at best. They had a great year and sure whooped our butts....but at no point was I rooting for them lol. My B1G or Midwestern alliances do not include Purdue even though I like Painter and wish him personal success.

I hope Hickman commits. He’s the type of player we have needed for the last 6 years.

If Woody puts Mgbako at the 4, then Tucker at the 3 would make sense. Then you can have Gallo at either 1 or 2.

Mike isn't going to find anyone in the portal that he is going to trust more than Gallo. You can look at 3pt% and quickness and all kinds of other stuff and im not saying Gallo will or won't be our best guard in 2024-2025 but when it actually comes time to play games and you are in front of 17k fans and the world on TV and playing Kentucky or Kansas or whoever....Mike is gonna want his guy (Gallo) in there at the tipoff and throughout most of the game. Gallo plays 30+ min a game. Unless Mike brings in guards who are NBA level talent like JHS, it's gonna be Gallo's team basically imo.

I would rather have Gallo run point and IU focus on getting a shooter. Not sure we need a point guard that can't shoot (Xavier) again. Gallo is def not coming off the bench in his 6th year. And Gallo at the 2 doesn't make sense if we have a Perkins. Neither one is a great outside shooter. I think our best bet is Gallo with the ball in his hands, (Cupps as a backup), and get a dynamite shooter at the 2 spot (Newton as backup), then we have Tucker at the 3, Mgbako at the 4 and Malik at the 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Woody plays 2 bigs again and brings Tucker off the bench. Gallo can be our point imo. I think we need to go get a legit shooter, along with obviously front court depth.

Mgbako has little chance at being drafted unless he can showcase a 40%+ 3pt shot with high volume. He has good size but unless he’s hitting 3s at a high rate, he just doesn’t have the athleticism to do much else at the next level. If he were as athletic as Gallo, he’d be already gone.

I used to (recently even) think the IU job was one of the greatest basketball jobs in America. I no longer think so lol. I think it's just a high paying gig like all the rest now.

TBD and BS both are on easy street. They don't want or need the cauldron and workload of a major college job.

Like everyone else I grew up on Don's radio calls but haven't listened to him call a game in awhile. Does he still call the halfcourt line the "timeline"? love that guy
